Add Chromebook as a supported device

Is there any way to add Google Chrome books that run Chrome OS to the supported device list. My wife and I would be forever thankful!

Yes, I sync only from the iPhone or iPad mini; or with the dongle on the Windows laptop. I'd read that with Windows 10, the dongle wouldn't be necessary. Wrong. Still need to use it, despite upgrade to 10. My Chromebook? Well, you know that already!

Can you at least say when I will be able to use my Chromebook to sync? I hate having to go find my phone to sync, when I am already sitting at my computer, as a result I often go a month or 2 between syncs. So my fitbit really isn't much use to me without a Chromebook sync.

Hey @Barker03! Thank you for the suggestion about adding Chromebooks to the list of supported devices.

Hope I can continue seeing your ideas Smiley Happy!

Adding my voice to the chorus.  Just got a Charge HR, super disappointed it doesn't sync off of my chromebook.  How hard could it be to write an net based app?  Please do this!  Thanks!

I have had a fitbit since January of 2014 (Force) and my Charge HR since December of 2014.

Recently I purchased a Chromebook (love it) but was disapointed to learn that an app doesn't exist for the Chromebook. I sync from my cell phone now but would so much like to be able to sync with my Chromebook.

As a former computer programmer it most certainly possible to develop an app for the Chromebook. I am in a totally different line of work now protecting the environment.

Speaking for other Chromebook users, we help something is developed soon.

Thanks for reading.

Wow. I really can't sync with my Chromebook? This seems old fashioned. I guess I would rather go without the fitbit than go back to Windows / laptop or firing up my husband's big gaming PC just to sync.

Another vote for chromebook support. This was the first thing I tried with my fitbit just presuming it would work like everything else I have moved away from windows laptops. Kind of screamed of a system stuck/developed in the older way of doing things when more and more things are Web based and just reside in the cloud. Hard to spend a lot of time in the app. With your smartphone only. Time to make it available via Web based application so Android phone or chromebook can work either way.

Support for Chrome OS would be huge! If Google's bluetooth API does not currently support this, I suggest FitBit start a conversation with Google for support in a future Chrome OS version. It would be a win-win for certain and I have no doubts that Google has the resources to make this happen.

Agreed, Kevin. Shall we end-product users also ask Google, or leave it to fitbit, which by now would know that many of their users want this capability? Sent from my iPad

I contacted Google and the issue is that the Bluetooth interface for Chrome OS does not support data transfer. The support person at Google said he would post the request to the engineering team and also suggested that individuals can make a request as well.

Here's how to make the request:

From your Chrome OS device (e.g. ChomeBook or ChromeBox) :

  • press alt-shift-i to get the support dialog
  • Enter the following request (or something similar) :

Please add bluetooth data transfer support to Chrome OS so Apps can be written to support data sync on devices such as FitBit activity trackers.

If enough people do this, it will likely get some attention and perhaps some day in the future we'll be able to sync our FitBits on a ChromeBook. Hopefully FitBit engineers are tuned in to the issue and also working with Google.

Come on, Fitbit. This is ridiculous. We should be able to sync our devices on a Chromebook. Please do something!

Disappointed that my new Fitbit won't work with my Chromebook (the only laptop we have in the house). Thinking about sending it back TBH, as without ChromeOS suppor, I'm forced to use my old Android smartphone.

I know how you feel. It's ridiculous in this day and age that Fitbit can't or just won't do something about this. I fortunately have a really old netbook on which I can sync my Fitbit but had I known it wouldn't work with chromebook, I would have never gotten it.

They don't care about chromebook/box users until there's an actual impact on their earnings. Ie if it doesn't translate to $$ they're not going to make an app for it. Either that or they have terrible programmers that can't program an app for chromebooks. Either way we chromebook/box users who bought this thing are screwed unless we use an alternate method.
