As someone who owns four Fitbit devices it's a big deal to switch, but I will. They make a serious fortune out of us, with our multiple devices. They should be spending a bit of that money to keep us happy. Their failure to make any real changes in response to customer feedback in the past year has clinched it for me. I'm gone. My chosen replacement for Fitbit has waterproof as standard across their latest product line. That's a huge improvement right there, and a sign that they listen to their customers, since they launched with nothing waterproof.
So true. My older posts are all gone. I was very bitter in those posts too. Now I am sad for Fitbit. Great idea and now the competitor is going to forward and Fitbit is staying behind.
I walked into an AT&T store to replace my phone and found a great sale on charge HR. My daughter had been wanting a tracker and the sale was ending that day. She isn't old enough for her own phone and the salesman assured me I could load both charge HRs on my phone w a single app. Great...let's do it! My color band was back ordered, and it took a few weeks to get. By then, my daughter loved hers and I loved being able to keep up w her activity/sleep pattern and was so excited to add mine to my account. Too bad I couldn't. My workaround was to set mine up in a new account from the desktop. PITA to sync! And, desktop features aren't as friendly as the app. Wish I had bought us the competitor's product that would allow both of us to be in the same app.
For whatever it's worth, your scenario is not what is being described here.
This feature request is to add two of the same model tracker to the same account, it sounds to me like you and your daughter have separate accounts. Even if this feature were implemented, it wouldn't allow for it to work for you and your daughter.
I don't believe that any of the other activity trackers (and their apps) allow you to sync to separate accounts from one phone... Well, without explicitly logging out and logging back in, which you could do now as well on your phone.
That said, you and your daughter have options. Other devices, like a tablet and iPod touch will also sync with her Fitbit.
So just to confirm, I fully charged my Flex on Friday. Then plugged it in to charge only during my shower (about 10-15 minutes, so not particularly long showers) and only every other day... (so Sunday and this morning) And it charges to 80% (I have the pictures of the 4 dots flashing, if you want me to post them), I could continue to do this, but I'm pretty sure that if you merely plug it in to charge while you shower (and you shower more frequently than every other day), it'll retain its charge indefinitely.
In other words, this is a reasonable workaround for the "I want to make sure that I don't ever lose charge even if I'm wearing it 24/7 (minus shower)" scenario. Incidentally, you may also plug it in to charge while you're driving, since you're also not stepping then.
So for folks like @Jennifernleavit, this is a reasonable workaround.
For the folks who have a Flex or Charge HR and wanted a second one that isn't as beat up or to accessorize, then Fitbit introduced the Flex 2 and Charge 2, and by virtue of being different models, you can have a Flex 2 paired with a Flex OR a Charge 2 paired with a Charge HR. Note the two new models have swappable bands (some pretty stylish, see pendant and bangle for Flex 2), so I can only hope that it satisfies most needs to accessorize and replacing cosmetically beat up bands.
I trust that this addresses the need of the folks like @Heavyevy, @SunsetRunner, @scootergirl.
I have had to exchange my Flex a few times (at Fitbit expense) because it couldn't hold a charge for even 24 hours. This is another common problem (with both Flex and Charge) or so it seems based on message boards. In response, for optimum battery life, Fitbit recommends only charging once battery is fully drained, turning off auto sync and silent alarms, and charging in a computer instead of in the wall. Knock on wood; doing all those things seems to be working with my current Flex so I don't want to tempt fate by going against one of their suggestions for longer battery life. I just want back up. Incidentally, I also wouldn't have asked Fitbit to replace my short-battery-life Flexes if they had another way for me to stay linked in, the ability to have multiple flexes on my account for example. So this is another way in which they are losing money.
All this said, I'm anxious to know whether the Flex 2 can be on the same account, since it's kind of a different model. That is still in my price range and would solve my problem, though it won't help the multiple-Charge folks.
I thought my flex died so I ordered another one. Ends up my charger was the problem. I wanted another flex as I have about 20 different bands and I like it. Don't really need the fancy ones. So instead of returning it I thought I'd just keep it as a back up. It would be nice to have one ready if one dies. I do the stepbet challenges so I want to always have one charged. Now I find that the multiple trackers only work with DIFFERENT trackers. Not sure what to do now. I hate to keep the new one and not use it as the warranty will expire before I might need it> HELP!!!!
I'd return it. Or sell the older one on EBay after disconnecting from your account. Or give the new one as a gift. Just make sure you tell people the truth.
Fitbit needs to come clean. It's clear that they constantly mislead people with the multiple device support rhetoric. They must be honest and upfront about these limitations. It comes across as sneaky and dishonest. People are buying trackers they can't use.
I'm not sure how you got the impression that multiple devices of the same model was ever supported, it's pretty clear in the documentation that it's one of each model:
"Switch between any trackers you like. Your account can have one of each tracker model and MobileTrack."
Emphasis is mine. I was delighted when they introduced the multiple tracker support and they were explicit from the very beginning that it was one of each model.
If you really don't work for Fitbit you certainly should. You're doing a much better job at PR damage control than they do.
I have no doubt that this verbiage exists somewhere, but as we know, most people don't read fine print. The marketing bullet points I've seen in all the main areas simply highlight multi device support, period, and that's very deceptive because most people have a model preference.
Looks like we may have gotten Fitbit's answer..at least on the Charge. Still can't have two of the same kind, but the new Charge 2 has changeable bands--which helps address my wanting different colors and having a clean band. I preordered one so I hope it is as good as it looks in the pictures.
I didn't have the impression of that..geeez...I messed up, ordered a new flex thinking my old one was done only to find out it was my charger. Thought it would be nice to have a backup. Remembered seeing u could have more than one device. Upon reading how two devices work I realized they had to be different. I was commenting hoping , as others were, they could fix that!!
My flex has changeable bands which is why I wanted to keep the same. I have about 20 different colors. I decided to send it back. Was thinking maybe I'd get the flex 2,which I could add, it's waterproof and we have a pool. Thanks
please fix this problem! i bought the Fitbit Alta in both the GOLD and SILVER and now have to make the decision to return one since I can't link both of them to my account. like a lot of people, i wear both metals and want my FitBit to match whatever I am wearing. how is this problem not already fixed?! i also have a Charge HR that i wear to sleep and to work out. i am willing to spend the $, but you're not making it easy for me to own the same model in both metals!
I have a two Fitbit Ones, and I would like the second one for tracking sleep.
I really don't like taking my main One out of the clip every evening and put it in the sleeve for sleep tracking. Just having the second one in the sleeve at all time, and just putting the sleeve on in the evening would be great!
I have had the Surge for 6 months now and love it. I wear it all day, every day. Working in a dirty environment the device is naturally getting scuffed, scratched and just generally grubby. I decided to buy a second Surge of a different colour to have one for work and another for social.
I knew that Fitbit allowed up to 5 devices but did not realise that this is only for different models. I have searched other discussions on here to find hundreds of comments about this issue dating back 12+ months but still with no action from Fitbit.
If someone likes a product so much that they are happy to spend their hard earned cash on a secondary device then it should not matter to Fitbit if it’s the same or a different model. Especially when the model I have bought twice is your most expensive model.
The solution to this is very simple. Allow your customers to:
1. Have up to 5 devices, regardless of the model.
2. Name each device personally (i.e. work and social), not just the model name.
3. Change the device icon (on the dashboard and device list) colour to allow quick and easy identification between different coloured devices of the same model.
These small changes will make a lot of your customers happy and may even increase your sales from people like me who wish to have 2 devices of the same model.
I have 2 Fitbit surges, one practically new and the other pretty beat up. There are times I want to wear the newer one like with something formal but it's to difficult to keep switching between them
It would be great to have 2 of the same trackers on one account!!! I have a teal charge HR for daily wear, and a black charge HR for work! But I'm stuck with only using 1. PLEASE make this an option!!! And also maybe to where we can label each tracker. This is a must have feature!!!! 2 identical trackers!!
This is a no-brainer. There are 12 pages of paying customers demanding this feature, so it's obviously something people want. As for development cost, Fitbit is a multi-billion dollar company. I'm sure the cost associated with implementing this feature "correctly" won't bankrupt them, and would be recouped in no time. Just do it!
@PureEvil 1 was a replacement charge hr cuz the band on my other broke and it wasn't even a year old yet. I don't know about you, but i don't make 6 figures a year, I cannot afford to buy another band. They are outrageously expensive.
