I've been waiting for the Surge for a while, but only just learned I couldn't sync two. I was sure you could (such an obvious feature), but was prompted to look into it before buying. Now that I see I can't have two fitbits linked to the same account, I'm going to hold off. I don't want to wear a giant digital watch every day. It has very specific and obvious training features, and my intent was to wear it on training days, or when I'm out being sporty. The rest of the time, I'd wear my One (which died, but I'd planned to replace it at the same time as I bought the surge.)
Let's be honest: wearables are about function and style, and no one's going to wear this "tangerine" thing with every outfit they have -- but the One can be discreetly hidden away. A clear and obviously needed feature.
I guess I can shop around and see what else is out there, whereas they had me locked in before I learned about this.
I have a FLEX with all of the colored bands. I would buy a SURGE HR in a heart beat ;0 if you would just allow multiple devices to be added into and tracked in one account. I would do my workouts, training and running with the SURGE HR because of the hr monitor, and wear my FLEX for the rest of the day because I can coordinate it with anything and it's a smaller band.
PLEASE, this feature CAN'T be that difficult to accomplish! I won't buy the SURGE until this feature exists.
I think you should get this going! I own the Fitbit One and wear it most of the time. Someone purchased the Tory Burch bracelet for me - but it does not fit with "the one". If I could use "the flex" and "the one" on the same account - I would definitely toggle back and forth between both. Alternatively, if you have a clip for the Flex - maybe I would use that. Keep us all posted when you have this functionality - I think you will sell more fitbits!
I've owned and faithfully used my fitbit flex for at least the last year and a half. I love it but as in looking to get back into running seriously and also started spin classes, the new Surge is looking mighty useful. Unfortunately, the Surge is also pretty large and doesn't look like it would be comfortable to wear all day every day like I do my flex (I also already have an everyday watch that I love). I would be over the moon if you guys would find a way that one user can have two devices on one account. That way, I can wear my flex to work and around during my daily activities and switch to the Surge when I'm running/at the gym. All the info could sync to the same account. I know it's a long shot but I just got a gift certificate to REI for the holidays and hope to use it on a new Surge if I can keep using my Flex as well.
@JackNikon I find the Surge perfectly comfortable for all day wear, but I can understand why you might not want to.
As far as multiple devices Fitbit recently announced that they are work on multi-device support: "Multi-device support: enables up to 5 Fitbit devices to sync to one account, giving you all your stats at any time, no matter which tracker you’re wearing"
I am very disappointed that I cannot add a second device to my account. I just got the charge HR and have had the One for two years now. The dashboard settings has a tab for adding a second device but doesn't seem to work other than deleting the first device. When will this feature be working?
My comment is slightly different. While I can see the benefit of two devices (or more) on one account, I am about to retire my old faithful 'One', and have purchased the latest version as a replacement. I have built up a sizeable total of steps etc. over three years. Can I add these to my new device, or are the data available so that I can record them?
I agree. Would love to have two devices on the same account. I want to use both a One and Charge HR on my account. I want to wear them a separate times.
I too, wish there were a way to have two trackers on one account. I love the Flex for most days, but there are times when it just won't work for me because of my mode of dress for social activities for business and charity functions.
I will be watching for this option to be instituted, but in the meantime, I'm going to switch to the One altogether. I just don't need the hassle of having two accounts when ONE (pardon the pun) will do.
Just purchased the Charge; currently using the Flex. Would love to use the device of my choice on any given day without losing continuity of data and/or having to track using two separate email addresses.
I was JUST thinking about this this morning! I am currently waiting on my first two fitbit purchases to come in the mail (aria & one) and i thought about this idea when maybe wanting a newer device but yet an older may be just fine for simple activities when you know you won't be climbing stairs or tracking exercise. Just knowing i'll eventually be buying a newer fitbit product down the road once they are updated, etc. hopefully most of this can be done via syncing/wireless upgrades though. But i also thought i may want a wrist band for some days knowing i only bought the one because i do not wear anything on my wrist most days anyways.
I am anxious for this new update - I love my Fitbit Charge however as a doctor cannot wear anything below my wrists at work. I would like to use a Fitbit One for those days when I am at work - Any ideas as to when the update will come out?
I really hope Fitbit prioritise this request. I want to use the wrist device outside work but cannot wear it at work so use a 'One' on workdays. Wish I had checked before purchasing my new wrist device. Since it has only arrived today I think my only option is to return it!! Agree with others that you would sell more products.
Any idea when we can expect the update? I just started wearing my Charge HR but am worried about switching between two devices...I'm not sure if my step count will get messed up, particularly if I swap in the middle of the day. Desperate for the update to make the swap over more seamless 🙂
Great idea! I just ordered a Charge HR and although I plan to wear it most days, there will be times when I want to go without it (more formal situations) and use my One instead.
I've been using a Fitbit One for 19 months everyday and I love it. I just ordered the Fitbit Surge for the heart rate and GPS functions. It will arrive tomorrow from Amazon. I'm disappointed to learn that it's been ovr a year and you still cannot have more than one device on the same account. Come on, Fitbit! My Aria scale can conect at the same time as my Fitbit One. Why should I have to deregister my Fitbit One, just to use my Fitbit Surge? YOu can do better! Mitch
I agree - the ability to have multiple trackers should be an available feature! The Force isn't as comfortable and inconsipucous, so being able to switch to the Flex or One during non-workout times would be great.
I had received a Charge HR as a gift and bought a Surge for the added GPS. I'm a tiny female so the Surge, while I love it for running, is quite bulky on my wrist and I definitely wouldn't want to wear it 24/7. I was sooo disappointed when I figured out I couldn't use the Surge when I wanted and just switch off to the Charge HR for more everyday wear.
I've tried doing the entire de-sync-re-sync rigamarole when I want to switch off, but I've noticed that occasionally it messes up data and loses some steps. It's very frustrating. Almost returned the Surge but I saw the blog post about multi-device support coming out so I'm hanging in there. Like a few other posters I'd even consider getting a non-wrist device too for formal events if only I could switch easily.
Ah! Came to the forum to ask this very question. also got an REI gift card and want to get a surge. However, I don't want to wear it fishing since my arms are frequently submersed in the river. When I fish I often hike to and from the stream and spend much of the day walking, I'd hate to lose all those steps. I'd love to wear the surge most of the time and be able to grab my Zip when I go fishing. Hopefully they'll get this developed soon.
I currently own the Fitbit One and would like to purchase either the Charge HR or the Surge. I read that the App cannot be synced to two trackers which is discouraging, because I would like to switch out between the two if there are days I don't want to wear a watch or I'm going someplace formal, but I still want to track my steps. Will this be something that will be coming in the future?
