I chose the FitBit Charge HR for the primary reason of being able to monitor my heart rate and I didn't want to wear a chest belt. I suppose the choice between a HR mponitor and Idle Alert is 6 of one or half a dozen of the other - I coulld easily check my carotid pulse or use my iPhone timer. I also have a program on my laptop that has an idle alert, which is where I tend to get stuck at for hours (because I forget to use the laptop app :-). I also chose the FitBit for the great band, the others have more bulk.
I agree... I have used FitBit since the very one and after the first one was washed too many times, I bought the One then I about died when I lost it in an airport and FitBit had been so great that I bought another One. I continue to promote FitBit and had debated about investing in the Charge HR or Surge but I won't without this feature. The added feature of Idle Alerts seems like a no brainer addition considering the amount of time it has been on this request board. I personally sit at a computer all day as many do and this would be amazing to finally have. FitBit - Can you at least update us on whether we will get this feature?
I was also very curious why nothing has been addressed regarding this request. It seems like we are talking to an empty wall, so I did a search. The only thing I found was that on 12-13-2013, the original date of this request, it says that this request is "Under Consideration".
There is another request I saw for FitBit to be more attentive to our requests and respond in a more timely manner. I have added a comment there to request that a decision be made to either implement or decline the request so 1) we know the status opf our request; feel heard 2) there are no more posts made for this request, thereby minimizing the amount of requests that FitBit is inundated with already. Here is the current standing of requests: New 2,875, Reviewed by Moderators 274, Under Consideration 39, Implemented 41, Decliined 22.
With that said, I am happy that the idle Alert request is at least one of the 39 being considered! An update would just be nice.
This would a very handy tool. My Samsung S health does this, but I dont' carry my phone with me when at work. Just sits on the desk, so it is not accurate. I choose the fit bit ChargeHR for all other functionality, but this addition would make it just about perfect.
I would love to have an "Idle Alert" feature added where the device would vibrate if you've been idle for a certain length of time. I thought I was getting that when I purchased my Charge. A little disappointed.
I would love an idle alert that is customizable so I can choose how long it should wait before buzzing me (idle 30 minutes, idle 1 hour, etc) that is able to be turned on and off as needed. Most of the day, I don't need it, as I am busy moving, but I tend to be a sloth at night!
Please add this "inactivity monitor/alert" feature. I'm actually considering switching to a different activity monitor if Fitbit does not institute an "inactivity monitor".
Look at the research recently, inactive - specifically sitting, not standing is important to track. THis could likely be the feature to get me to switch to another device. Geesh, look how long this has been requested by the community!!!!
Seriously, a fitness tracker without an Idle Alert? And as the clock face isn't available unless I tap it or press a button I might as well go back to Jawbone UP and check the time on my phone.
@linw - re: Original Date of this request - I thought the same thing. This was first brought for consideration December 2013. At least it is 'under consideration' vs not even having been read yet (like hundreds others). The consideration process must take a very long time. ??
I really was hoping this would be added but even though I see almost 1000 votes I have given up hope since this was posted over 1 year ago. I think it's time for another tracker.
I would forego battery life to be able to see my clock everytime I went back to look at my fitbit! As of now, it almost always goes to Floors, which is totally unhelpful..
You can just set it so you double tap the band and it shows the time. I did it on mine just now. Not pushing the button, you tap on the band itself. I think by default this is already set up. If not, it's really easy to change from the app.
Thanks Brianwestchest - are you talking about the Surge? If so, do you have the steps as to how to do that? I don't see it happening and I can't find the setting either from the app. Thanks!
