Please Fitbit, add this feature! Why still no response at all after three years? I was advised at time of purchase that the Charge HR had this feature: it was one of the main reasons I chose it. It should be a simple update, and I'd be happy to live with the extra drain on battery life. Please, listen to your community.
This should definately be a feature. I don't even wear my fitbit half the time but I would if it periodically told me to do some pushups, situps or go for a walk.
I can't believe they haven't added this yet. It shouldn't be that hard to do. But it would need to be done within the fitbit itself. I don't think a constant bluetooth connection would good for battery life of phones or the fitbit. Plus manually syncing would defeat the purpose of the idle alert. If you manually have to sync then before you get an alert then that's just silly.
The fitbit has the ability to read steps. It has the ability to vibrate. It also has a timer function. All it would need is a program that checks at intervals whether you have reached a small step goal. For intance, it could check every hour to see if you have added 1000 steps since the last hour. If it wasn't attained the fitbit vibrates. If you did, it stays quite until the next hour interval.
We could then customize these intervals/step goals on our dashboard. Either 20 min or hourly intervals. 100 - 2000 step goals. Or the ability to turn it off completely. I sit down a lot so I need this function. When I bought the fitbit one I was under the impression that it already had this ability from websites, reviews and fitbit. However I soon realized it was just an alarm that was not attached to movement at all. Now I have the fitibit charge hr, I really think they should add this ability. It would improve things so much. I would rather space my exercise throughout the day.
I think other fitness bands will alert you to move every x minutes throughout the work day and also after a long period of sitting. I'd like to see that feature on fitbit.
I have recently moved from Jawbone to FitBit, and I cannot believe that Fitbit do not have this feature.
I work in an office, and somedays im lazy and dont move for upto 4 hours at a time. However when I had the Jawbone i had it set to buzz me if i had been idle for an hour. It conciously made me get up and move around either go to the bathroom, or go have a drink of water (it made my water consumption go up!) FitBit really need to add this feature, it surely cannot be that difficult as I can see a 3rd party developer has done it already (however is charging for it)..
fluffy2001: Can you clarify the statement "from what I've learned"? Where did you learn this and are you suggesting that this is the official response from Fitbit?
Please make this happen for the Charge HR. If battery ife is a concern for some you could also have the option of notifications through the smartphone only.
I definitely need this feature as do most people who purchased this product for motivation. Please add it as a feature of your hr band. Other products have this function and don't require a new purchase when additional features are added. Again, I wouldn't be wearing a bracelet that basically looks like I'm under house arrest unless I needed the motivation that it provides. I actually thought that the product had this feature when I purchased it since so many other brands do.
I bought my FitBit about 3 hours ago and the saleperson told me that there was an inactivity reminder. It was a key reason for my purchase. I've just searched high and low on the App and these message boards to find out that it's not available. I'm pretty much going back to JB HiFi tomorrow to exchange for a Jawbone (which these message boards tell me has the Up Reminder). Unless - you can advise that it is coming soon (which I mean really soon - a week or so).
It should not be difficult to add an Idle Alert or Time to Move Alert to the Fitbit Surge. This has been requested for several years now. I would like to know if it will be done soon, as I will switch over to a Garmin VivoFit 2 if it is not going to be available soon. Sitting too long is my biggest problem.
I'm looking to buy a heart rate decive for my fiancée. She's asked for one which alerts when you idle as essential. It's now leaving me having to get a competitors HR at second. Really hope this feature happens as I'd rather get her a Fitbit based on the reliability record.
