Increase or customize hourly activity goal from 250 steps/hour

It would be really cool to have the option to increase the reminder to move minimum count.  Currently, the reminder to move is set to 250 and I would really like the option of raising that number as my activity increases.

I agree, the ability to customize when the reminder opens up would be great.  It would also be nice if we could also customize the # of steps per hour, too

Yeah, I'd agree with this one as well. Having the option of whether to have reminders to move every hours (250 steps), 30 minutes (200 steps?) or even 15 minutes (100 steps?) would be great, to keep us moving. Its so easy just to sit at work, or watching TV and not get up to do ANYTHING!

Icing on the cake would be to have a limited number of options of the number of steps required.

Seems like a simple customization option! Why not add it?

I would definitely like to have this feature added. It would help so much with my weight loss goal. 250 steps is simply not enough to lose weight and I easily meet the 250 step goal and don't get reminders and I need to move so much more than that.

I have a fitbit and I'd love this option.  I am a wanna be runner and getting from couch to running is a struggle.  I thought I was doing good meeting the minimum at first but then realized it was a bad reference.  I do get that it is a reminder to move but I'd rather it be hey you need 1,000 steps this hour to meet your goal or what not.  I figured this was definitely a feature but going through google I see that it wasn't and stumbled upon this.  I hope it is created it seems like a pretty simple thing since somewhere a 250 is plugged in and giving us the option to change it should be easy enough. 🙂

I kind of wish that I had never started this conversation thread, as it has morphed into something else entirely. Fitbit has ALWAYS had a daily steps goal that you can set to your own target. In my case, it is 12,500 steps per day (which I invariably beat, often by 6,000 to 8,000 steps). But, sticking with the goal of 12,500 steps per day, I don’t get there by walking 700 steps in each of the 18 hours a day that I am awake. I achieve my goal through 2 or 3 long walks a day with my dog and by working out for 1 hour.

But studies have shown that there is a benefit to walking a little bit every hour; that is, do not be stagnant for too long. That is why Fitbit came out with the reminder at 50 minutes past the hour to get up and walk a bit, if you haven’t made 250 steps in the previous 50 minutes.

My only issue is the time period involved. You only have an option to select a start time and an end time. In my case, I start it at 8:00 am and end it at 10:00 pm. But Fitbit “translates” that to be that I must walk at least 250 steps in EACH of the 14 hours between 8:00 am and 10:00 pm. I think I’ve hit the goal one time; invariably I’m sitting on the couch watching TV or reading for an hour or so, and don’t notice the little reminder. I am sure that on most days I do walk at least 250 steps for 14 hours….just not 14 CONSECUTIVE hours.

What I originally requested of Fitbit was to simply have this feature allow you to set a goal of hours walking at least 250 steps in a certain number of hours (in my case, 14 hours) during any given 24 hour day.

Allow us to change the number of steps per hour to help us reach our 10,000 step goal. 250 is not enough.

Be great if you could adapt the time frame as well, for example I’d like to be able to have it remind me every half hour but with a lower number of steps.

I have the Ionic FitBit tracker and love it.  I am currently recovering from spine surgery and need to have more control over hourly activity goals.  I know I can adjust the hours/days, but I really need to adjust the number of steps.  This capability currently doesn't exist with the app.  Is one planned to be included as an upgrade to the FitBit system?  Is there a beta version available that includes modifying the number of steps for hourly activity goals that I could help test?  This capability would really help in my recovery--at least help me from having to the do the math every hour.  😉  Thank you for your time and consideration.

Please give us this ability. Not having it is compromising me. when I go over on steps it doesn't notify me again and that's the whole point. I need this thing to get me out of the chair every hour and 250 steps is not enough. Make the change! Do the right thing!

I would also like to see this feature. I have a desk job and 250 steps/hour is not getting me anywhere near 10k steps/day.

Yes, would love this as an option. I would love to be able to set a reminder to move every 20 or 30 minutes.

I would like to be able to set how many steps I want to get every hour and have the reminder go off 30 minutes before the hour is up.  That way I could divide my daily goal up to make sure I reach it every day.

I gave this a thumbs up - is that the same as voting for it?

I would definitely like to be able to customise the 250 steps per hour - I generally do that quite easily.

Hi @Pedidoc! Great suggestion. I've moved it into a similar request. It sounds like a great option. You can learn more about how Fitbit decides what suggestions get released in our FAQs.

Is FitBit going to allow me to increase my hourly step goal? I really think 250 is too little for a desk job and I want to have the ability of working towards a higher step goal hourly.

I totally agree! Seems like it would be a simple fix😊

It would definitely be nice to have the customization. I just use the
little buzz as a reminder to get up and finish my water bottle and fill up
again. Doing the walk to the fountain and back gets me up to 250 easily - I
can't imagine not being able to meet the goal unless you were working in a
job where you HAD to sit all the time...

Would be great to increase this number from 250. That's only 3500 steps. It should be more reflective that at a minimum this is what's needed to reach your daily step goal in the time frame you choose.

Yes, I have a walk to and back from work that I can easily work out the
average number of steps.

On the first day of getting the fitbit I worked out how many steps I needed
per hour to get up to my goal of 15,000 a day and was disappointed I
couldn't fix it.
