Make sleep score optional

Suggested idea is to have the sleep score optional !

We should be able to choose if we have the score or not , I hate feeling like I failed my sleep!

Agreed. Fitbit needs to remove the sleep score. It is useless and replaced helpful information - the weekly sleep average. I will not buy Fitbit again if this isn’t fixed. I have seen countless postings from customers saying the same thing. Listen to your customers. We hate the sleep score. We want the sleep average. It has nothing to do with being unable to adapt to changes that would be considered smart development. It has everything to do with Fitbit removing a feature that is incredibly simple and useful. Put it back.

Agreed. I can’t imagine that anyone needs/appreciates the new sleep score. Sleep is not a game. I want information, not an absurd, arbitrary number that tells me nothing useful.

But even if someone else does want this “feature,” I don’t. I want the option to turn it off. Right now the only option is to remove the tile, and that’s not what I want; I want the tile and the relevant information, which is how much I slept — without the distraction of the sleep score. And that preference is clearly shared by everyone else in this thread.

If the app isn’t going to allow the option to turn off the Sleep Score; I don’t see any point in wearing the Fitbit. Most of my friends use Apple Watch so there isn’t a benefit in using Challenges. The Sleep tracker was my only real benefit to use Fitbit over an Apple Watch. If I can’t get the data I use; why wear it?

Fitbit  you removed real data and replaced it with a made up "sleep score". I want the real data back.

I completely agree. The sleep score is completely useless and biased. I want real data that I can use. The sleep averages were extremely useful. At least give users the ability to toggle between the sleep score and their daily/weekly averages. FitBit listen to your community! If this doesn't change, my family will move to New trackers.

I do not want my fitness app scoring me, I want data that I can act on. In my opinion sleep score is a novelty bit of information, but not useful to me at all. I can’t actively do anything to improve it. If Fitbit wants to leave it as part of the sleep data, okay fine. But do not replace the weekly average number of hours slept with the average sleep score. I could care less about my average sleep score. My average number of hours of sleep per week was one of the top data items I track. Bring it back!

By the way, I know the weekly average hours of sleep is still in the app, but you have to dig deep to get to it. Put it back on the first screen in “sleep” where it was before. Please keep the data I want most within the first two layers of the app and don’t make me dig every day.

Same comment. I've been a Fitbit user for 4 years and I've been tracking my hours slept. Now suddenly I cannot continue my stats because it changed. It's good to add new features but do not remove old methods as someone may be using them for long term trending

I've been using fitbit for over 5 years. I have sleep apnea, insomnia and chronic anxiety. The sleep score is not only completely useless in my case (i wake up on average 15 times an hour) but actively damaging.

My fitbit is in need of replacement and i was planning on switching to the versa. The new changes and constant pushing of a subscription (aren't the fitbits themselves expensive enough?) makes me think I'll look into an alternative brand for the next wearable i buy.

Very unsatisfied with these changes.

No matter how much time I sleep, I'm not able to get anything more than Fair, and I'm the kind of person to whom this means "You're a pathetic loser. And since you can't do anything about it, just go kill yourself". How is this motivating and productive? It only generates more anxiety and sleep problems.

I also encourage everyone to leave a 1-star review in the App Store.

Fitbit team has been ignoring user feedback regarding this for almost two months. Our complaints on some internal forums don't influence their income, corporate bonuses or promotions in the short term. Because you know, they already took our money, so we are waste material to them. New potential buyers won't read these forums, but they may check app reviews. Let's make our voice louder!

With recent publications and media attention making us only too aware of how damaging poor sleep can be, why on earth would you introduce a compulsory feature that judges and condemns? For those of us with life long sleep issues, the Fitbit used to be a source of comfort or information that was a useful way of checking in on our sleep. Now it's an added source of shame and anxiety. I will not be sticking with Fitbit unless this irresponsible compulsory feature is removed. Terrible decision based on flimsy science and a cheap urge to please the jocks and meatheads who live their lives in a constant state of competition. .

Like everyone else, I agree that this sleep score is useless and intrusive.  Gone is the simple weekly "how many times did I reach my sleep goal" and in its place is a random number that Fitbit attached.

Agree.  I am so frustrated with the sleep score.   There’s no way to opt out of it.   I don’t want to see a score - I want to see the actual average hours I am sleeping each week.  I’m actually pretty angry that there’s no way to turn it off.  It’s useless information.

Scoring sleep seems like it was a really lousy idea. It feels judgmental and often discouraging, especially when much affecting sleep is out of my control.

Agreed. Sleep score is useless. Give us the option of reverting back to the previous system. Average sleep is more useful especially for us that have non-standard sleep patterns due to our work.

How can I get rid of this feature? I miss knowing my weekly average! Sleep tracking is super important! I don't want a score, I want my widgets to go back to the way they were!

This new sleep score is absolutely unacceptable! I've used Fitbit for many years and for the first time, I am very unhappy. If the sleep part of the app is not corrected very soon, I will have to find an alternative because it is not ok. I want to know hours slept and not this ridiculous nonsense.

Agreed! The sleep score tells me I get “fair” sleep every night. Before the sleep score, I used to check the REM and the deep sleep to see if I was in the benchmark area. I noticed a trend that when I get enough deep and REM sleep, I feel pretty good, even if it’s only 6 hours of sleep.

I had a whole year of insomnia where I slept for 4-6 hours with little REM and deep sleep that caused me all kinds of health issues. It took years for my brain to fully function normally. I had major memory issues, lack of focus, weight gain, heart issues.

I dont need anyone judging my current sleep. The info that was provided was enough to check up on my sleep. Now I get a score of fair every night. I’m sleeping much better, but this is making me feel worse! A lot of this is psychological and how you feel about your sleep can affect your health. I don’t need a sleep score. I’ll decide how I slept!

Everyone remember to leave a one one star review in the App Store. I’m shocked that Fitbit doesn’t listen to its customers.

Agreed with everyone else. Make it optional. I do not really need an arbitrary number applied to my quality and quantity of sleep. Hours and sleep zones is all that is necessary for most users to get insight. A sleep score is, to be frank, a little dumb. However, since some folks would find it useful (and not dumb for their needs), making this optional would allow all users to get the data they need.

That being said, any major new "thing" like this should always be optional.

Fitbit: can you not see how angry everyone is over the app changes? It’s best to say “we hear you and we will change the app back to what it was.”

What a shame to take something that worked great and make it useless.

I read that the data storage for all of all of these devices is costing companies a lot of money. If data storage is an issue, then why don’t you add value to the app by saying straight up:

“the data storage is expensive for us and we can no longer afford to store more than this much data. If you wish to have your data stored for an infinite amount of time, then we are asking that you pay a nominal fee to cover storage costs. “

This type of honesty would be welcomed. But instead your people have the brilliant idea of pissing of every current customer by messing with the app and adding a paid subscription for who knows what. You can’t rip the rug out from under everyone like this and actually not care.

I agree with so many other users here. The Sleep Score is a really bad feature. It is very discouraging to get a “fair” rating on a day when I actually met my sleep goal. I immediately checked the FAQs and found I could not turn it off. The sleep benchmarks and averages are very useful. The Sleep Score is not. Please provide an option to turn it off!

I too dislike the sleep score innovation. It would be OK for you to rate my sleep by your arbitrary and unexplained standard if you didn't also remove the data I was actually using. (But why would you do that? I have no idea how you are scoring my sleep. Is this a competition to see who gets the most REM cycle?)

By the way, I am leaving this comment after having a help chat. I thought perhaps there was a way to remove this feature using preferences or settings. The help desk person gave me the link to this thread. In order to leave the comment, I had to click an acceptance on a policy that says you won't accept suggestions. Nice. I'm still leaving the comment because I think if you get enough people telling you they will buy a different company's tracker next time, you will consider restoring the option to see sleep data.

Also, insult to injury: you have an automatic "sleep insight" that tells me my average sleep for the previous week and suggests that I set a sleep time. The average sleep number is always the same and therefore always wrong. I got it again this morning, now that you have removed the sleep average from the previous week. Ugh.

I agree, this new system is dumb and useless. For example, I slept nearly 8 hours last night and earlier this week I got just under 6 hours, and the score say "Fair" for both, this tells me nothing. I've already read criticism over Fitbit's sleep tracking and other sleep trackers for not being accurate when it comes to sleep stage tracking, and now they're using a method that takes that arbitrary data and assigns an arbitrary score to it. All what I care about is that I get at least 7 and a half hours of sleep or more.

If they want to give us the option for a sleep score then I'm fine with that, but we should be able to opt out and go back to our old sleep settings of hours.

I too find the Sleep Score completely useless and feel that I’m being judged instead of helped.

Bring back the Average Hours option. Much more informative and useful.

I may may just throw out this FitBit and buy another company’s tracker.
