The Exercise Tracking functionality was added only recently to the FitBit Android app. But it only allows me to track running, walking, and hiking. Why doesn't it allow me to track cycling? The tracking for cycling would do exactly the same things as tracking for the other activities, i.e. track your position using the GPS. The only difference is the way it would calculate the calorie burn.
No excuses FitBit Android Developers - this is a bit of a glaring omission.
I would like to see the ability to add any moving exercise to your mobile run, Unicycle(only natural), Rollerblade, skate boarding, would be a few examples
I totally agree with this. The only way I was able to get my cycling into fitbit was by-hand (which I don't have time for after every ride) or Third-Party sync service (Garmin -> Fitbit).
The Third-party site I used is now out-of-service. And most of the other offerings are pitiful.
I made a suggest that FitBit offer a new Premium feature - "Sync other Services". Premium doesn't seem like Premium if your health data is not accurate and complete.

Ensure cycling is supported on the Surge. There's really no excuse not to do this, as it has GPS and can easily measure distance travelled, elevation, hills etc and send them to the app for crunching. I'm so, so surprised it's not one of the selectable modes. It's almost a deal breaker.
To measure my steps during cycling I put my fitbit into my sock. A step is a step whether walking, running or cycling. But it would be great if the Fitbit surge not only showed the route, and distance, but also calculated the current speed.
Surge is ideally suited for tracking cycling - it has GPS, elevation sensor and HR monitor! Please, please, add a cycling mode that shows mph instead of pace and correctly calculates calories.
I feel like Surge has made a huge leap in combining all of the things I am looking for in monitoring my health - this is the ONE thing I would vote on again and again. I've already consolidated from polar beat, caloriecount.com and mapmyrun to fitbit, I would love to be able to use fitbit aps/devices for cycling to eliminate mapmyride.
This single source of health information would be very valuable to me!
I assumed the surge would support cycling since it's shown as a use in the promotional videos... Hope this is something that can be added soon and be accurate.
The surge would be more worth it if I could track biking! I can't take these hills but if I can actually see the calories it just might motivate me more to get back on my bike and hopefully get used to these darn hills.
Fitbit will have my $$ for surge once a cycling option is enabled. I'm not necessarily well versed in what it would need, but it seems like gps hr and altimeter would be all u need...looks like the surge measures up.
If it can be used for spinning why not cycling? Just enable the gps so we can map our rides, the altimeter would be nice also so we can changes in elevation along our ride also.
I also would love a "biking/Cycling" option on the Surge, for this is my main sport.
As a matter of fact, I dont really care if the intelligence is in the Surge software. Surge could very well be used just to record HR, GPS points (incl. altitude) and all the "calculation" on calories could be carried out on the mobile phone (either in real time or when Surge and FitBit app sync). That is exactly what sensors such as Schosche do, so I don't see why Surge + FitBit app. couldn't (from an IT standpoint)
It will be great if you include the biking activity . You can Link up the bike computer to activity tracker so that the activity can be very accurately tracked. There are many bike computers available in the market .
This idea is definitely not an impossible task to achieve technically . Hope you can add this feature very soon so that Bike fans are disappointed with your product .
