Hey there! A warm welcome to our Fitbit Community family @SueBa!
When your workouts are not being recognized automatically by your Surge, you can check the following things to help your little body determine when you're working out:
What is the specific activity that you're recording? Is this the first time that this happens? Hopefully this steps will resolve the issue when using SmartTrack auto-recognition, if not let me know!
I'll be around!

Hi @Jaffers, thanks for getting back and answer my questions. I'll be more than glad to explain how to do restart!
I don't know if you notice, but in my previous post I add some extra information on how to perform some steps. Depending on the device that you're using they will look in a different color and underlined too. Sorry if I didn't mention it in my post.
Here are the instructions on how to restart your Surge:
1. Press and hold the Home and Select buttons (left and bottom right) for 10 to 15 seconds, until you see the screen flash or start to dim.
2. Let go of the buttons.
3. After your screen turns completely off, wait 10 seconds and press the Home button to turn your Surge back on. If you have trouble restarting your tracker, just hold down the buttons for a longer time; don't release them until you see the screen get significantly dimmer.
Good to know that it did sync! Now about the battery. If you aren’t tracking runs or exercises that use GPS, your fully charged Fitbit Surge should last up to 7 days. A fully charged Surge can track up to 10 hours of activities that use GPS. Because battery life is affected by use and other settings, actual results may vary. Cleaning the charging contacts is a good workaround for this issues. Use a toothpick or toothbrush to clean the charging contacts; do not scrape them with anything metal because this may damage the plating and result in corrosion.
You can also take a look of these tips to improve your battery life later on, by doing so will help to determine if we need to do something else.
I'll be around!
