If you are still experiencing this issue, we would love to investigate further. The following would help our team review:
We appreciate the additional details.
Fitbit Update 07/16/2018: Hey everyone -- We have just released an update to the Fitbit app for iOS, version 2.53.1 which we believe resolves the issues with food logging that have been reported in this thread. Please update to 2.53.1 and let me know of the results so I can quickly communicate that to our iOS team.
Again, thank you for your continued patience as we worked to get this resolved ASAP.
Update 7/15/2018:
Thanks everyone for your patience on this. We sincerely apologize to anyone who has been affected by this issue and have been working hard to find a fix. We are preparing to roll out an update tomorrow, July 16th to solve the problem. In the meantime, customers can use the food logging feature in the web dashboard: https://www.fitbit.com/foods/log.
Update 7/14/2018: We do realize this is a critical issue and our team continues to work on the cause and a fix. We don't provide timelines, in case something occurs and it can't be met, but we hope to have a resolution soon. Thank you again for your patience, reports, and cooperation.
Update 7/13/2018: Hi Everyone - we definitely do hear your reports and frustration on missing and strange food logs. Our engineers are still investigating and I hope to have a resolution shortly.
While not ideal, you can log on Fitbit.com food log and it will populate on iOS correctly once you sync. You can log it here. We appreciate your cooperation. I'll continue to update this thread as I hear more.
Update 7/12/2018: Hi Everyone - thanks again for your reports. We are actively reviewing this issue and I'll continue to update the thread as I hear further. As a workaround you may want to log your food through https://www.fitbit.com/foods/log. As mentioned in @sreid64's post, it will populate the iOS app correctly. Thanks again for your patience and reports.
Update 7/11/2018: Hi Everyone - I've merged a few posts together. We are currently investigating issues with food logging on iOS version 2.53. Please continue to monitor this thread for updates. If this is severely affecting your food logging, you may want to log through Fitbit.com. Thank you very much for your reports and patience as we review.

Lorried --- I have been able to log into fitbit.com with no problem, maybe a local internet problem on your side or cell depending on where your trying to log in from.
I assume fitbit is working on the issue which may affect the fitbit.com food logging. I have been able to add 3 items through fitbit.com and when i open the fitbit app it loads it up.....again they could be doing things on their end that may affect other particulars in order to fix the problem, who knows.

Is that 900 cals of chocolate a bug or a clever misdirection of information using a bug as cover?

I'm experiencing this too on an iPhone 7.
It has logged something entirely different than selected on a few occasions, but it also only allows me log once per day on this build of the app (so if I add breakfast, then add lunch or another snack, it'll completely wipe everything logged so far for the day and only log the latest item - that's if it doesn't change to something random!).

A tip to everyone how this will be solved very quick:
Write the issue on social media like twitter, instagram and Facebook. where potential buyers will see the situtation. in this case you will be amazed how fast fitbit will react.
'Social Media is strong and had always good experience if you share your Story with the world.
Than fitbit will react, also because the Marketing department will make pressure as they dont want to have a bad Reputation and loosing market Shares.
It is a shame that not a single fitbit employee/Manager reacts here and letting us at least know the time to be fixed (not even an estimation)

Hi - I spoke to someone in customer services this morning who confirmed that there was an issue with food log. Apparently engineers were working on the issue but I am still having the same problem - hopefully they will sort it out soon.

Do you have any idea as to when this will be fixed? It’s a pain to input food through Fitbit.com because it’s not as user friendly as the app! As you can tell, I have no patience. You need to do more than investigate the issue since it seems to be a widespread problem, not an issue! Please fix this! Your upgrade has created more problems than it fixed.

Just roll it back to the previous version until you’ve fixed it!!

I agree! Don’t make us use Fitbit.com to log food while we wait endlessly for you all to fix this! Give us the old version until you make sure everything works before rolling it out!
