Update 7/19/2018: This issue is now resolved, please ensure your app is updated if you still experiencing this issue. We appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation as we worked on a fix. I'll be closing this for further reports. If you are experiencing any new issues with food logging, please start a new thread.

Update 7/18/2018: Thanks again everyone for your reports. Glad to hear the update has corrected food logging issues for many.

If you are still experiencing this issue, we would love to investigate further. The following would help our team review:

      • Are you already updated to 2.53.1?
      • What is the OS version that you are running on your iPhone?
      • What food database are you using?(See Account>Advanced Settings>Food Database).
      • What language are you using the app in?
      • What foods are you trying to log?
      • What specific interaction are you doing that is not working? (Adding, editing, deleting, scanning).
      • What time/date did you see the issue?

We appreciate the additional details.

Fitbit Update 07/16/2018: Hey everyone -- We have just released an update to the Fitbit app for iOS, version 2.53.1 which we believe resolves the issues with food logging that have been reported in this thread. Please update to 2.53.1 and let me know of the results so I can quickly communicate that to our iOS team.

Again, thank you for your continued patience as we worked to get this resolved ASAP.

Update 7/15/2018:

Thanks everyone for your patience on this. We sincerely apologize to anyone who has been affected by this issue and have been working hard to find a fix. We are preparing to roll out an update tomorrow, July 16th to solve the problem. In the meantime, customers can use the food logging feature in the web dashboard: https://www.fitbit.com/foods/log.

Update 7/14/2018: We do realize this is a critical issue and our team continues to work on the cause and a fix. We don't provide timelines, in case something occurs and it can't be met, but we hope to have a resolution soon. Thank you again for your patience, reports, and cooperation.

Update 7/13/2018: Hi Everyone - we definitely do hear your reports and frustration on missing and strange food logs. Our engineers are still investigating and I hope to have a resolution shortly.

While not ideal, you can log on Fitbit.com food log and it will populate on iOS correctly once you sync. You can log it here. We appreciate your cooperation. I'll continue to update this thread as I hear more.

Update 7/12/2018: Hi Everyone - thanks again for your reports. We are actively reviewing this issue and I'll continue to update the thread as I hear further. As a workaround you may want to log your food through https://www.fitbit.com/foods/log. As mentioned in @sreid64's post, it will populate the iOS app correctly. Thanks again for your patience and reports.

Update 7/11/2018: Hi Everyone - I've merged a few posts together. We are currently investigating issues with food logging on iOS version 2.53. Please continue to monitor this thread for updates. If this is severely affecting your food logging, you may want to log through Fitbit.com. Thank you very much for your reports and patience as we review.

Why can't you roll back to the previous version until this issue is finally
resolved?

Lately, Ive entered foods like iceberg lettuce and as soon as I go back it shows as 400 calorie ranch dressing. Today I listed Fiber One cereal and it showed as Honey Nut Cheerios. I want to delete things like this from the tracker and reenter but I can't seem to find out how.

@scadawizard that's something that our team has discussed, but I think at this point they have isolated the problem and are working on a fix.

Exact same problem since App updated automatically 3 days ago on my iPhone. If I log out of the app, turn off my phone, log the food on my computer, log out of computer, turn phone on, log onto Fitbit on computer, then log on to app AGAIN, I would say it is there about 75% of the time. I obviously don't always have my computer with me. The scanner works, but doesn't add the food to the log. Neither does, the frequent, recent or custom food. I'm clearly not the only one having problems, but it is beyond frustrating! I was considering buying the new Ionic, but this has given me serious pause, if the app is going to randomly be glitchy like this. PLEASE HELP!!

I tried that work around and it did not update in my app when I synced, or even when I exited and reopened app

The work around only works for me, if I log out of phone app, turn phone
OFF, log out of computer app, turn phone back on, login to the computer app
version, then login to phone app, then sync.

YES, it is a royal pain and takes forever, but it is the only way I've been
able to get that work around to work. I have to logout of both apps and
turn my phone off completely each time. Good Luck!

I really hope it is fixed soon!

This is not really good enough,

obviously the update has some major problems and needs to be sorted ASAP or give us the old one back !

This food logging issue is clearly causing a problem for hundreds of users. When do you anticipate it will be fixed? I am really surprised this hasn’t been resolved yet, given that it’s one of the core functionalities of your app. Should we be moving to My Fitness Pal instead? What will you be doing to make up for this embarrassing lack of service to your customers? I also find it surprising that you haven’t communicated what has caused the error. Has your database been comprised? Given that your app currently can’t tell the difference between a fajita and a fishfinger, why should we have any confidence that our personal data is safe?

I have been using FitBit devices since 2013 and this is the first major issue I have had with FitBit.   Especially since I just made the switch this week from logging my food in a third party app to exclusively using the FitBit app.

I am sure they are working hard to get this working properly. I have always had great service with Fitbit. I am just as frustrated with this issue as everyone else but I know they will make it right.

I do think however better communication should have gone out at least by way of social media to advise of the issue to keep users advised. Not many people know about these forums.

fingers crossed this is fixed soon.

My food log would not log my Hard Boiled eggs for about four days. Now, when I try to log my Dover Sole fish, it gives me Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Have been having various food log issues such as these for about five days now.

They considered it but chose not to?? Hello, roll it back so we can use the products that we paid for & fix the update on your own time! Not ours! This is way beyond ridiculous. I hope whoever made this decision is aware of how much money you have made apple stores this week.

This is seriously annoying - I haven't been able to log my food in days.  Why is this still a problem??!!

@Sabrina1234 Fitbit does integrate with My Fitness Pal and we do recommend it often, so I would recommend trying it out if you are interested. This is not a result of an account hack, I can assure you. If you are concerned about that, I recommend checking this article

This may sound silly but the app being screwed up has caused me some serious anxiety and I'm eating terribly which is even more discouraging because I was starting to feel back on track after my vacation. Please fix this ASAP!

I know how you feel. I am also worried for the same reason and need this to keep me on track. I downloaded “my fitness pal” today and while it’s not as good yet it syncs with your Fitbit app.

Use that in the interim and good luck. Message me if you want to share your stress about it.

Oh my gosh thank you so much! And I'm glad you get it. I thought I might sound a little ridiculous saying not having the app was making me anxious, but it has been so useful and in the last couple of days I just can't keep it together. I'm going to download my fitness pal right now

@bradtke329@Karynw I get it too and know a lot of people who depend on food logging for weight management. I don't use My Fitness Pal, but my coworker swears by it and lost a good deal of weight with it.

Ive downloaded it but I cannot for the life of me get it to connect to my fitbit app. So disappointed!

Go to more then apps and devices. Scroll down to Fitbit and select it. Then connect to it you will be asked to log in. I did that and then when I added food to my fitness pal it synced with the Fitbit app and took my steps over to my fitness pal. It’s not ideal but until the fix goes in it has takeen away my stress. I have huge food issues and the food tracker is the only thing to help me keep 50lbs off!! No one else I know gets it.
