Update 7/19/2018: This issue is now resolved, please ensure your app is updated if you still experiencing this issue. We appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation as we worked on a fix. I'll be closing this for further reports. If you are experiencing any new issues with food logging, please start a new thread.

Update 7/18/2018: Thanks again everyone for your reports. Glad to hear the update has corrected food logging issues for many.

If you are still experiencing this issue, we would love to investigate further. The following would help our team review:

      • Are you already updated to 2.53.1?
      • What is the OS version that you are running on your iPhone?
      • What food database are you using?(See Account>Advanced Settings>Food Database).
      • What language are you using the app in?
      • What foods are you trying to log?
      • What specific interaction are you doing that is not working? (Adding, editing, deleting, scanning).
      • What time/date did you see the issue?

We appreciate the additional details.

Fitbit Update 07/16/2018: Hey everyone -- We have just released an update to the Fitbit app for iOS, version 2.53.1 which we believe resolves the issues with food logging that have been reported in this thread. Please update to 2.53.1 and let me know of the results so I can quickly communicate that to our iOS team.

Again, thank you for your continued patience as we worked to get this resolved ASAP.

Update 7/15/2018:

Thanks everyone for your patience on this. We sincerely apologize to anyone who has been affected by this issue and have been working hard to find a fix. We are preparing to roll out an update tomorrow, July 16th to solve the problem. In the meantime, customers can use the food logging feature in the web dashboard: https://www.fitbit.com/foods/log.

Update 7/14/2018: We do realize this is a critical issue and our team continues to work on the cause and a fix. We don't provide timelines, in case something occurs and it can't be met, but we hope to have a resolution soon. Thank you again for your patience, reports, and cooperation.

Update 7/13/2018: Hi Everyone - we definitely do hear your reports and frustration on missing and strange food logs. Our engineers are still investigating and I hope to have a resolution shortly.

While not ideal, you can log on Fitbit.com food log and it will populate on iOS correctly once you sync. You can log it here. We appreciate your cooperation. I'll continue to update this thread as I hear more.

Update 7/12/2018: Hi Everyone - thanks again for your reports. We are actively reviewing this issue and I'll continue to update the thread as I hear further. As a workaround you may want to log your food through https://www.fitbit.com/foods/log. As mentioned in @sreid64's post, it will populate the iOS app correctly. Thanks again for your patience and reports.

Update 7/11/2018: Hi Everyone - I've merged a few posts together. We are currently investigating issues with food logging on iOS version 2.53. Please continue to monitor this thread for updates. If this is severely affecting your food logging, you may want to log through Fitbit.com. Thank you very much for your reports and patience as we review.

Thanks for your help @Karynw. It seems to be just taking me in a loop! Ill at least track my food in there and let it sync with whatever steps my iPhone fitness app picked up for now. Hopefully Fitbit can get this worked out soon!

Congrats on your weight loss! I lost 45 pounds a couple years ago but put 15 back after switching to an office job as well as going back to school for another 2 years ago. Its been harder do this time around but when I started making a real effort to use my app and get my activity I was beginning to see some progress. I've just really messed up the last few days!

For once I have good fortune.  I found this thread before I updated the app and am still running on the previous version.  This is ridiculous.  I am on a strict diet, doctor's orders, and if I update cannot track food.

A rather evil thought came to me today.  With all the problems, battery drain on the androids and food tracking problems on the iPhone, taken with all the problems with the new Versa, I wonder if there is internal sabotaging going on at Fitbit.  Or very dumb techies.  Or maybe both.

Fitbit will probably delete this post.  Read it while you can.

Not only is the app not saving all my food that I log, but I tried to update my weight, and it will save briefly but then disappear.

Yes, our food logging is severly compromised as you may only enter food you have NEVER entered before. We regularly eat the same breakfast foods and other meals are similar, as we are watching our food intake, or we wouldn't be on the Fitbit program. I have about 300 to 500 calories showing since the update. Today my husband and I went berserk and had Sonic Chili Cheese Footlong Coneys with Taylor tots, onion rings, and a big ole strawberry shake. We also had cinnamon rolls for breakfast. Since we haven't had any of these foods since we started using the Fitbit last Thanksgiving, we were able to log ALL these foods in the new update. Needless to say we are over target about 2000 calories. But hey, we are sobered up now and will only be seeing a few calories each day. : - (

Why don't FITBIT just roll back to version 2.52 so users can use the app on their IPHONE without issue instead of having us have to use a computer. I actively use my fitbit to track my food and it is a major inconvenience. I am going to look at other apps because using the computer is not convenient.

Have any of you actually tried logging food on  the website from your phone? I am beyond frustrated. I’m over this.

I have had my Blaze for a little over a year. You’re fortunate to have had no problems until now. Mine has had problems since day one.

I understand how you both feel. The ability to track food helps keep us
honest and on track. And as others have mentioned, beyond my weight loss
goals, I have serious health issues that make keeping a food log important.

I hear everyone's frustration, and I am feeling it too. Unfortunately,
MyFitnessPal hasn't worked great for me, even if I sync it - maybe because
I have entered too many custom foods that don't show up there, or on the
computer app.

Oh, and just now, despite following the long process that has worked for
days. Log on, log out of both, phone off, login on computer than phone. It
does have my total calorie count on the front page of the phone app, but
when you go to the food log - there is NOTHING, a red bar saying ate too
much today compared to my activity (which isn't hard given I have fractured
my food in 2 places, so getting my steps in is kinda hard), but there is no
food logged at all. Just a total calorie count.

I know this will probably be deleted, as that seems to be everyone else's
experience. But, I hope the folks at Fitbit understand none of us are
trying to be snarky, it is just an issue that we have been dealing with for
days. And it seems to be getting worse not better, it also seems that work
arounds that worked before are no longer working. I understand you don't
want to give a timeline, as you don't know how long it may take to fix, and
don't want to miss your "deadline." But please understand that your
deleting of negative posts and mostly the complete lack of communication -
other than to say you are aware of the problem, is what is frustrating
people and causing them to write posts that need deleting. I also know that
we would rather have an update, apology, some word from you - other than a
link on an article as to how to secure out information - to just let us
know you care about your customers. I think that is the biggest cause of
this frustration, and I think we would all prefer a missed deadline to the
lack of communication.

I will thank all the users for their support, shared venting, suggestions,
understanding, and cheering on. It has helped to not feel like I am in this
on my own. I only wish I felt that way from the company too. (I have tried
to write this as nicely and diplomatically as possible, but I'm kinda
guessing they will delete it anyway.

But thank you to all those frustrated workout and weigh-loss warriors out
there - your feedback and support has helped more than anything!

Oh my gosh not even... I tried tracking 60 calories of zucchini noodles and it turned into ONE THOUSAND calories of Mac & Cheese!

It's 100% the honesty part for me! Even when I eat things I shouldn't I ALWAYS put them in. Not being able to, and actually face the numbers is what's killing me!

Not counting my floors correctly anymore either

Mine gave me 7 floors one day, 10 minutes after I got up in the morning.
That was awesome..
