Update 7/19/2018: This issue is now resolved, please ensure your app is updated if you still experiencing this issue. We appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation as we worked on a fix. I'll be closing this for further reports. If you are experiencing any new issues with food logging, please start a new thread.

Update 7/18/2018: Thanks again everyone for your reports. Glad to hear the update has corrected food logging issues for many.

If you are still experiencing this issue, we would love to investigate further. The following would help our team review:

      • Are you already updated to 2.53.1?
      • What is the OS version that you are running on your iPhone?
      • What food database are you using?(See Account>Advanced Settings>Food Database).
      • What language are you using the app in?
      • What foods are you trying to log?
      • What specific interaction are you doing that is not working? (Adding, editing, deleting, scanning).
      • What time/date did you see the issue?

We appreciate the additional details.

Fitbit Update 07/16/2018: Hey everyone -- We have just released an update to the Fitbit app for iOS, version 2.53.1 which we believe resolves the issues with food logging that have been reported in this thread. Please update to 2.53.1 and let me know of the results so I can quickly communicate that to our iOS team.

Again, thank you for your continued patience as we worked to get this resolved ASAP.

Update 7/15/2018:

Thanks everyone for your patience on this. We sincerely apologize to anyone who has been affected by this issue and have been working hard to find a fix. We are preparing to roll out an update tomorrow, July 16th to solve the problem. In the meantime, customers can use the food logging feature in the web dashboard: https://www.fitbit.com/foods/log.

Update 7/14/2018: We do realize this is a critical issue and our team continues to work on the cause and a fix. We don't provide timelines, in case something occurs and it can't be met, but we hope to have a resolution soon. Thank you again for your patience, reports, and cooperation.

Update 7/13/2018: Hi Everyone - we definitely do hear your reports and frustration on missing and strange food logs. Our engineers are still investigating and I hope to have a resolution shortly.

While not ideal, you can log on Fitbit.com food log and it will populate on iOS correctly once you sync. You can log it here. We appreciate your cooperation. I'll continue to update this thread as I hear more.

Update 7/12/2018: Hi Everyone - thanks again for your reports. We are actively reviewing this issue and I'll continue to update the thread as I hear further. As a workaround you may want to log your food through https://www.fitbit.com/foods/log. As mentioned in @sreid64's post, it will populate the iOS app correctly. Thanks again for your patience and reports.

Update 7/11/2018: Hi Everyone - I've merged a few posts together. We are currently investigating issues with food logging on iOS version 2.53. Please continue to monitor this thread for updates. If this is severely affecting your food logging, you may want to log through Fitbit.com. Thank you very much for your reports and patience as we review.

Thank you for the updates Fitbit. Is what is happening with our food entries caused by hacking? Do we need to do anything security-wise? My new healthy food entries immediately disappear or are replaced by non-sensical, grammatically wrong unhealthy food, such as ‘Saltandvinagarchips = 123,800 calories’. Lol. I just tried again and it looks like it worked for the first time in two days but only when I changed from wifi to LTE. Will see if it’s been fixed now?

I’m so frustrated with it. It’s not logging my activities correctly either as I walked for 40 minutes and it logged 21. I hope they rectify this soon!

You can still add food using the web interface, that seems to be working.
I went out on the trail this morning and it seemed to log correctly. (I
use the run button for my walks, it seems more accurate.) Separate thread
has a message from FitBit saying they're working on the issue.

That is really interesting. I had 3 Fitbit’s in a row that stopped working, so I upgraded to a more expensive model and hoped that would be the end of it, but due to this latest problem I am thinking of changing provider too. I was thinking of the Apple Watch, so it is interesting that you say the battery life is not good. My daughter had a Garmin and had loads of problems with connectivity and losing data. I keep waiting for a new provider to come along as they are all very bulky and I have very slight wrists. Please share what you find out about the unpronounceable one! Thanks

There has been no updates since yesterday.  Come on Fitbit do something about this.  I have Ace's backordered for my kids and  I am considering cancelling the order.  This is horrible customer service.

Received versa as father's day gift, I like it overall. But the app is key and if not working kind of makes me want to buy apple watch instead and return the versa this weekend. My wife just ordered versa and is thinking about canceling. I'd rather keep what I have, hate changing devices unnecessarily. But the ongoing tech issues are concerning based on what I'm reading. Looking for some reassurance from Fitbit?

I'm (mostly) managing through the website when the app won't properly log food entries. (iPhone 7+, iOS 11.4) I'm sure the company is going through metaphoric hell with this, even just to revert to version 2.52. The idea that something like MyFitnessPal is an alternate input is interesting. Like others, only some of my food entries are affected by deletion (temporarily registering the calories anyway) or changing. Manual water and weight input aren't affected. I can look food items up, including from bar code scans, as before. But I have a couple of twists to add to the reports:

Once a food item is added via the website, I have to refresh the app to get it to appear. This often means clearing the app from memory. Once that's done, I can use the app to change the quantity and schedule of the item without issue, even if I couldn't add it from there.

Last night I ate a frozen entree (Fettuccine Alla Carbonara by Indulgence) that the app would read the bar code and find it just fine, but would delete it if entered from there. When I went to the website, though, I couldn't find that item listed at all. (I'm currently filling that spot with a custom placeholder entry I created for items I didn't want to fully register.)

Finally, I note that on the website I can manually enter whatever quantity I want, but through the app I can't enter tenths of a unit (aside from 1/10, 1/5, and 1/2). Having the option for tenths (even without hundredths or more) on the app would be helpful.

I think that it was working yesterday logging from the fit bit site, but today it isn't and they have yet to update on that.

If apple watch had an option for challenges like fit bit does I would be all over the apple watch! I really like competing with friends though during the work week and weekend challenges to keep me motivated. But I log my food religiously and this is a huge glitch for me...I want an apple watch 😞

I agree with you, they don’t seem to care, this is not cheap to buy, but if they don’t get it  sorted I will get an Apple phone

Me too. This should have been sorted within this first 24hrs,

Well my app finally did update from the website, although it took about an hour.

The very fact that fitbit has not broadcast an alert about this bug to all their users shows their contempt for their customers and their shoddy excuse for customer support.

We have all wasted tons of time because we have to go through the grief of discovering the bug themselves, searching and finding out what’s going on, writing a message about it, etc. Occasionally they respond to these postings with unhelpful messages, but that’s a crummy substitute for real customer support - can you scroll through a hundred messages on this one thread to find their two messages?

I guess we will find out when they fixed it only when they eventually release another update.

I can find certain foods with the app that I cannot find on the website, so I am unable to update my food logs correctly.  I've had problems for 3 days so far.  I hope it is resolved soon.

I don’t think Fitbit cares about there customers

I'm having the same issues. My "Sour Cream and Chive Mashed Potatoes" from Medifast changes to "Blueberry Muffin" after I press save in the App. This happens with multiple entires. Rarely is anything correct. I can input the food through my computer and it stays as I enter it. Only the App has the glitch. Hopefully this is remedied quickly. I keep strict records and can't carry my computer with me.
