Stopped seeing notifications after updating to iOS 13

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Update 12/13/2019: Please ensure you are on the latest iOS version, currently 13.3. Also check out the updated instructions in our notification help article

This thread is a continuation of our previous discussion on notification issues introduced with iOS 13. If you are experiencing difficulty with your notifications after updating to iOS 13, please carefully follow the steps in this article, which are also documented below.

These steps should resolve the issue when followed correctly. We realize this process can take some time, and encourage you to proceed carefully and deliberately through every step, even if you think you've already done so.

If these steps do not appear to resolve the issue for you, please try them at least once more to be certain, then respond in this thread with specific details about where you were unable to proceed, or what unexpected behavior you are still experiencing.

1. GET UP-TO-DATE

  1. Update the Fitbit app.
  2. Make sure you installed the latest version of iOS. Tap Settings > General > Software update to see if an update is available.

2. CHECK YOUR BLUETOOTH SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device.
  3. Turn Share System Notifications off and then back on. If you don't see the Share System Notifications option:
    1. Restart your Fitbit device. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?
    2. Tap Allow when you receive a message on your iPhone or iPad asking if you want your Fitbit device to show notifications.
    3. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device
    4. Turn on Share System Notifications.

3. CHECK YOUR NOTIFICATION SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings in the top-left to return to the Settings page > Notifications.
  2.  Make sure Show Previews is set to Always or When Unlocked.
  3. Verify the settings for each app that sends notifications:
App Settings
Calendar
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Tap each notification type and verify the settings:
    • Alerts > Notification Center—On
    • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Messages
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Phone
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
All other apps
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked

4. RESTART YOUR PHONE

For instructions, see the Apple help article.

5. DOUBLE-CHECK

If these steps do not resolve the issue for you, please keep your app up to date, and double-check the following:

  • DO NOT DISTURB

This feature prevents your phone from sending notifications. Verify that Do Not Disturb is off:

  1. On your phone, tap Settings > Do Not Disturb.
  2. Make sure Do Not Disturb is turned off.
  • SET UP NOTIFICATIONS IN THE FITBIT APP
  1. With your Fitbit device nearby, tap the Today tab

     > your profile picture.
  2. Tap your device image > Notifications. Follow the on-screen instructions to pair your Fitbit device to your phone.
  3. Choose the types of notifications you want to receive. Tap App Notifications and choose the apps you want notifications from.
  4. Sync your device.

Again, if these steps do not work for you, please try them more than once and then let us know specific details about your experience so that we can assist further. Please keep your app up to data and watch this thread for new information.

@DavideFitbit

I have tried all of the steps listed and others as well, such as deleting the Fitbit app from my phone, resetting my phone’s network settings, etc.

Nothing works.

my Versa is new so if Fitbit cannot foresee a quick solution I will return it.

please can you give some sort of timescale??

I have completed the steps and I am getting some notifications, not all.  The first time I tried it, some texts came through.  The next day no texts came through.  I redid the steps again and some texts are coming through.  I have also lost the ability to track sleep since the 12th. When I followed the steps, it came back for one night, but then went away.

Please, why do you keep repeating “have you followed these steps”? I think pretty much everyone now knows that setting the preview to always or when unlocked in most cases work when it comes to notifications, but as said earlier that is not a solution. I do not want previews on AT ALL as I had before iOS 13 and which then worked fine. So as long as one of the “have you followed these steps” contains a step saying previews must be turned on, I am not interested. An actual solution however is what I want.

My previews were on and it still does not work.

One of the reasons I upgraded my fitbit to the Versa was so that i could get messages and now its not working. I've followed these instruction multiple times and still not working. When is this going to be fixed?

Best Answer

I was able to get my text notifications working now but only by changing my notifications by going to the "messages" app and changing the 'show previews' set to 'always' or 'when unlocked'.  I've always had this setting set to 'never' because of privacy on my phone and yet I used to get text previews on my fitbit.  now, i do not.  we should not have to change this setting to 'always' or 'when unlocked' so that we can maintain privacy on our phones.  will this be fixed with an app update???

I’ve tried syncing more than 3 times. I have removed the app, followed the Bluetooth steps, I have asked Bluetooth to forget the device, now my iPhone can’t find it. Over it nothing but hassles with fitbit very disappointing. This is the 3rd ionic I have had as the others died before warranty ended but I’m over them now!

Best Answer

Turn your phone off and it will find it again, but the piece still won’t work!

I have also tried the suggested troubleshooting tips with no luck. In addition, I have removed the device multiple times and resynced everything, also with no luck.

after changing messages notifications from preview: never to preview: always, it worked. But so you’re telling me now I have to keep my previews on for all to see in order to get them on my watch? So disappointed in Fitbit honestly. You can do better than this. Thanks a lot.

I have tried ALL of your troubleshooting options on more than one occasion, but i'm still not getting text message notifications. Come on Fitbit this has been going on for a long time now your customers deserve better

Spoiler
iOS 13.3 (updated last night):

I finally got my text notifications to come to my FitBit Blaze. Still having issues with phone calls. As another user said, I get the notification, answer my phone, and the FitBit keeps buzzing until I press the buttons on the side multiple times. Then it will buzz again during the conversation with a notification that the person with whom I’m already speaking, is calling again. Please get it together FitBit. This is not an Apple issue, as my husband who has a Galaxy Note9 has the same trouble with phone calls, and he receives text notifications about 10-15 minutes after they arrive to his phone.

I did the steps twice as instructed and that didn't correct this issue. I finally reset my Fitbit Iconic and that seems to have corrected the issue. Hopefully, permanently.

It makes me wonder if this is just because of iOS 13.3 or possibly the latest app forced upon us or a combination of both.
