Update 12/13/2019: Please ensure you are on the latest iOS version, currently 13.3. Also check out the updated instructions in our notification help article.
This thread is a continuation of our previous discussion on notification issues introduced with iOS 13. If you are experiencing difficulty with your notifications after updating to iOS 13, please carefully follow the steps in this article, which are also documented below.
These steps should resolve the issue when followed correctly. We realize this process can take some time, and encourage you to proceed carefully and deliberately through every step, even if you think you've already done so.
If these steps do not appear to resolve the issue for you, please try them at least once more to be certain, then respond in this thread with specific details about where you were unable to proceed, or what unexpected behavior you are still experiencing.
1. GET UP-TO-DATE
- Update the Fitbit app.
- Make sure you installed the latest version of iOS. Tap Settings > General > Software update to see if an update is available.
2. CHECK YOUR BLUETOOTH SETTINGS
- Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
- Tap the information icon
- Turn Share System Notifications off and then back on. If you don't see the Share System Notifications option:
- Restart your Fitbit device. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?
- Tap Allow when you receive a message on your iPhone or iPad asking if you want your Fitbit device to show notifications.
- Tap the information icon
- Turn on Share System Notifications.
3. CHECK YOUR NOTIFICATION SETTINGS
- Tap Settings in the top-left to return to the Settings page > Notifications.
- Make sure Show Previews is set to Always or When Unlocked.
- Verify the settings for each app that sends notifications:
App | Settings |
---|---|
Calendar |
|
Messages |
|
Phone |
|
All other apps |
|
4. RESTART YOUR PHONE
For instructions, see the Apple help article.
5. DOUBLE-CHECK
If these steps do not resolve the issue for you, please keep your app up to date, and double-check the following:
- DO NOT DISTURB
This feature prevents your phone from sending notifications. Verify that Do Not Disturb is off:
- On your phone, tap Settings > Do Not Disturb.
- Make sure Do Not Disturb is turned off.
- SET UP NOTIFICATIONS IN THE FITBIT APP
- With your Fitbit device nearby, tap the Today tab
- Tap your device image > Notifications. Follow the on-screen instructions to pair your Fitbit device to your phone.
- Choose the types of notifications you want to receive. Tap App Notifications and choose the apps you want notifications from.
- Sync your device.
Again, if these steps do not work for you, please try them more than once and then let us know specific details about your experience so that we can assist further. Please keep your app up to data and watch this thread for new information.

Similar to many of us, after I updated my iPhone 8 with the new OS and updated my Fitbit Versa on the Fitbit app I stopped receiving notifications on my Versa. I tried every suggestion people have made and nothing worked. Although getting messages on my Versa isn’t a requirement for me, it became quite handy before all the updates. Hopefully Fitbit can find a solution.

Mine is not working either. I am so so cross as what is the point of having it if it doesn’t work properly. I have emailed over and over and they just keep giving me the run around. I have done the troubleshooting but still not working. Fitbit what do you intend to do? To say that this is a disgrace is an understatement.

Been talking to Fitbit for 2+ months about this and each reply is just wait. Today I asked if the versa 2 was going to have the same issue and got a “ it should work for a while and then get the same bug”. Sad because it was the feature that sold me on the versa. How long does be patience turn into defrauding the customer?

I have done these steps multiple times with no resolutions... I know that it’s not an issue with connectivity, because I am getting phone calls via my Versa.
I am very disappointed in FitBit for not having a solution, this has been going on for a while now with NOTHING from you guys.

It has been a couple of months for me that my text messages havent been coming through. Phone calls work on my versa but It doesnt matter how many times I follow the troubleshooting steps, it still doesn’t work. Im considering returning it and getting an apple watch instead as its obvious that Fitbit hasnt made this a priority to resolve the issue. Im very disappointed in this product.

Did all of this and none of it worked. It wasnt until I set my enabled Message previews “Always (Default)” which I hate because people can easily read your texts. Didnt work this way previously.. Is there a fix on the way?

I have a Fitbit Versa and recently updated my iPhone to the 13.3 iOS. Since then I get Most notifications except texts. This is frustrating as everything worked fine before. I rely on my Fitbit to help me know when texts come in that I need to respond to. If I had known this was the outcome of updating I would not have. I’ve tried all the troubleshooting steps several times.

I only get my text messages on my Fitbit if the notification > previews > is set to always; however, this shows my entire text message on my phone. I don’t like that. Is there anyway to fix this and still get texts on my Fitbit?

i tried that. It shows but I don’t won’t my messages showing where ppl can read them either. So. Idk what else to do. When I first bout my Fitbit. I didn’t have to have it on always on in order to get my text notifications. It was only until they iOS 13 came.
