Stopped seeing notifications after updating to iOS 13

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Update 12/13/2019: Please ensure you are on the latest iOS version, currently 13.3. Also check out the updated instructions in our notification help article

This thread is a continuation of our previous discussion on notification issues introduced with iOS 13. If you are experiencing difficulty with your notifications after updating to iOS 13, please carefully follow the steps in this article, which are also documented below.

These steps should resolve the issue when followed correctly. We realize this process can take some time, and encourage you to proceed carefully and deliberately through every step, even if you think you've already done so.

If these steps do not appear to resolve the issue for you, please try them at least once more to be certain, then respond in this thread with specific details about where you were unable to proceed, or what unexpected behavior you are still experiencing.

1. GET UP-TO-DATE

  1. Update the Fitbit app.
  2. Make sure you installed the latest version of iOS. Tap Settings > General > Software update to see if an update is available.

2. CHECK YOUR BLUETOOTH SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device.
  3. Turn Share System Notifications off and then back on. If you don't see the Share System Notifications option:
    1. Restart your Fitbit device. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?
    2. Tap Allow when you receive a message on your iPhone or iPad asking if you want your Fitbit device to show notifications.
    3. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device
    4. Turn on Share System Notifications.

3. CHECK YOUR NOTIFICATION SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings in the top-left to return to the Settings page > Notifications.
  2.  Make sure Show Previews is set to Always or When Unlocked.
  3. Verify the settings for each app that sends notifications:
App Settings
Calendar
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Tap each notification type and verify the settings:
    • Alerts > Notification Center—On
    • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Messages
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Phone
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
All other apps
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked

4. RESTART YOUR PHONE

For instructions, see the Apple help article.

5. DOUBLE-CHECK

If these steps do not resolve the issue for you, please keep your app up to date, and double-check the following:

  • DO NOT DISTURB

This feature prevents your phone from sending notifications. Verify that Do Not Disturb is off:

  1. On your phone, tap Settings > Do Not Disturb.
  2. Make sure Do Not Disturb is turned off.
  • SET UP NOTIFICATIONS IN THE FITBIT APP
  1. With your Fitbit device nearby, tap the Today tab

     > your profile picture.
  2. Tap your device image > Notifications. Follow the on-screen instructions to pair your Fitbit device to your phone.
  3. Choose the types of notifications you want to receive. Tap App Notifications and choose the apps you want notifications from.
  4. Sync your device.

Again, if these steps do not work for you, please try them more than once and then let us know specific details about your experience so that we can assist further. Please keep your app up to data and watch this thread for new information.

My FitBit Blaze message notifications are finally working again. I just followed all the instructions and got it to work. What changed this time...well, I followed all the instructions in this post, installed a newly released iOS software update (13.3), FitBit App was updated, as well as my FitBit Blaze to version 8.402.1.  In addition, several options within the Apps were modified, such as "Show Previous" options and "Notification Center".  Once those were updated, I am getting SMS messages again. Only issue now is being able to stop my FitBit device to stop acting crazy when a phone call is received...it goes crazy vibrating until I press the left button several times (it used to stop on it's own once phone call was answered).

Thanks, this solved my issue syncing to new iphone pro.

To those still struggling:

  1. I switched blue tooth off on my old iphone and removed it from list (forget this device)
  2. I completely removed fitbit from old iphone in settings
  3. I removed fitbit app on pro and downloaded new one
  4. I connected cable and pressed 3 times
  5. It immediately worked and connected thanks to this post

Same here. iPhone 8, OS 13.3. Followed the steps twice. I get phone calls and calendar notifications but no texts.

This is the only way that it will work for me as well!  Work in a place that I need my phone with me but around a ton of people that I don’t need to see what text I’m getting as some are confidential.  This needs fixed or I’ll be looking into an Apple Watch!  Comparing prices and benefits it evens itself out for the most part compared to the service we are receiving here after over a month of no answers!

This whole situation is quite frustrating. I've done everything on this board, more than once and nothing works. No notifications and now my weather app won't update to the location I'm at.

When is all this going to be fixed? I only have 30 days to return this fitbit. All this "instruction" is well and good but I didn't buy this fitbit so I could spend hours of my time trying to correct something you should be correcting. Sorry to sound like a jerk but I think there are many users on this board that feel this way.

So sad, I really like this one best of all fitbits I own (I have the charge, charge2, first versa, inspire and now this versa 2) but if it doesn't work it's a waste of my hard earned money.

I would like to see a "real" fix so I can keep this fitbit, is that going to happen or should I fight the Christmas rush (another frustration) to take it back before I'm stuck with it?

Very frustrating. I love my Fitbit as well. The best but since I can’t get my notifications. I’m not impressed. So I really hope they fix this soon

It cannot only be iOS incompatibility because my husband is having issues with his Galaxy Note 9 as well. We just decided to solve the problem altogether and purchase the watches that correspond to our phones because after months of trying to overcome the issues, we are simply out of patience with Fitbit. It is unfortunate because I was perfectly happy circumventing the control Apple likes to have over other products’ compatibility with their products, plus most of the Fitbit options are much less expensive than the Apple Watch. In this case, however, you get what you pay for and the fact that Fitbit seems unable to offer a permanent solution to this problem made it an easy decision for me and my husband to leave our Fitbits behind.

I am getting notifications for phone calls and calendar events, but nothing for texts. I have painfully gone through all of the steps listed and there is no change.

Nothings worked. I do now get my phone calls but no texts! That’s a main reason I have a Fitbit not an Apple Watch, I’d hate to have to switch just for a bug!

How many posts does there need to be before Fitbit comment on what’s going on and start doing something useful to resolve this? So many unhappy people.

Make sure your alerts are all checked, especially the Notification Center. Also, under "Show Previews", try both "When Unlocked" and "Always".  For me, it worked on "When Unlocked".

Good luck

Hi I have tried all the steps 3 times and it’s still not working, I just bought this 3 days ago specifically for the messages on screen, is there anything else to do? Thank you

Best Answer
I just tried both and there is no change

I have went through the steps at least three times.  I haven't had notifications for a long time.  What is fitbit doing to make this right with its customers?

Best Answer

Unable to load onto iPhone 8+ with the update iOS 13.3 been trying for three days goes from green to gray like it will not sync or update at all.

Best Answer

I can’t even get the device to load. It’s new versa lite.

Tried all your tips nothing working. So annoying, hopefully you will get this sorted soon.

Still isn’t working!
