Stopped seeing notifications after updating to iOS 13

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Update 12/13/2019: Please ensure you are on the latest iOS version, currently 13.3. Also check out the updated instructions in our notification help article

This thread is a continuation of our previous discussion on notification issues introduced with iOS 13. If you are experiencing difficulty with your notifications after updating to iOS 13, please carefully follow the steps in this article, which are also documented below.

These steps should resolve the issue when followed correctly. We realize this process can take some time, and encourage you to proceed carefully and deliberately through every step, even if you think you've already done so.

If these steps do not appear to resolve the issue for you, please try them at least once more to be certain, then respond in this thread with specific details about where you were unable to proceed, or what unexpected behavior you are still experiencing.

1. GET UP-TO-DATE

  1. Update the Fitbit app.
  2. Make sure you installed the latest version of iOS. Tap Settings > General > Software update to see if an update is available.

2. CHECK YOUR BLUETOOTH SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device.
  3. Turn Share System Notifications off and then back on. If you don't see the Share System Notifications option:
    1. Restart your Fitbit device. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?
    2. Tap Allow when you receive a message on your iPhone or iPad asking if you want your Fitbit device to show notifications.
    3. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device
    4. Turn on Share System Notifications.

3. CHECK YOUR NOTIFICATION SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings in the top-left to return to the Settings page > Notifications.
  2.  Make sure Show Previews is set to Always or When Unlocked.
  3. Verify the settings for each app that sends notifications:
App Settings
Calendar
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Tap each notification type and verify the settings:
    • Alerts > Notification Center—On
    • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Messages
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Phone
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
All other apps
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked

4. RESTART YOUR PHONE

For instructions, see the Apple help article.

5. DOUBLE-CHECK

If these steps do not resolve the issue for you, please keep your app up to date, and double-check the following:

  • DO NOT DISTURB

This feature prevents your phone from sending notifications. Verify that Do Not Disturb is off:

  1. On your phone, tap Settings > Do Not Disturb.
  2. Make sure Do Not Disturb is turned off.
  • SET UP NOTIFICATIONS IN THE FITBIT APP
  1. With your Fitbit device nearby, tap the Today tab

     > your profile picture.
  2. Tap your device image > Notifications. Follow the on-screen instructions to pair your Fitbit device to your phone.
  3. Choose the types of notifications you want to receive. Tap App Notifications and choose the apps you want notifications from.
  4. Sync your device.

Again, if these steps do not work for you, please try them more than once and then let us know specific details about your experience so that we can assist further. Please keep your app up to data and watch this thread for new information.

Yes I am in the process of trying to return it. The fact that it was a Christmas gift is making it a little tricky but I will figure it out.
Thanks for your response and for sharing the success of your Apple Watch.

My Charge 3 never stopped working after all of the iOS update and Fitbit app updates. It has been fully functional the entire time. Is there anyway to share my device information or phone settings to diagnose and help non-working users troubleshoot? Side note: My wife and I got our charge 3s at the same time and were both fully functional until the iOS 13 update. Hers stopped all notifications except for call alerts.

Not working for me. Tried multiple times over the few days ive had this. Frustrating but my husband has received notifications with no problem. Weve wasted a decent amount of time trying to fix this.

If you aren't receiving text on Versa 2 try this...

I don’t know if this will help. I called Fitbit to get a return label, so I could return my Versa 2 that was a Christmas gift because I was not receiving text messages. The associate asked to let him walk me through what to do. I explained I had followed the step by step “fix” that is posted on the Fitbit site, too many times to count. Anyway.... I did it and my watch is now receiving messages. He added a step that is not stated in the websites corrective measures.
Here it is.....
go to phone settings
Go to notifications
Scroll down to messages
Go to banner style
Turn it to persistent

I did not have my phone on persistent, nor was that something that was stated to do it the “fix”.
Perhaps that will help someone else.
If not you can call the company and they will send you a return label.

Happy New Year!!

That fixed my issue. Maybe it will help someone else.

Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately, it didn't work. I made the banner change to "persistent." Still not receiving text notifications. Since the iOS 13 update, I had a week or so where my GPS wasn't working so it didn't log my running pace. Yesterday, my Ionic device logged my run, but it didn't show up in my app even though my steps updated in the app. I purchased the Fitbit Ionic over Apple Watch because it was less expensive; however, at $250 it should work for at least a year. I've it for 10 months!

Actually it stopped working on version 12. I updated to 13 in hopes of fixing this, of course it didn't work.

Since this issue is on my wife's watch, I don't give close attention, but it looks like it doesn't work for half a year. At this point I'm never ever considering buyinf anything from Fitbit again, considering selling it off and buying Apple Watch.

Me too!  I purchased my Fitbit on Black Friday of this year and I am still not getting Notifications.  What about all those people who got them as Christmas gifts.  Very disappointed I imagine.

I just tried your suggestion of removing the device from Bluetooth and reinstalling.  Hopefully this will work!  I purchased this Fitbit mainly for the connect to my phone--I need it to work.

This is not working.  Very disappointed.  Bought it about a year ago at Costco. Considering taking it back to Costco, unless they come up with a solution soon. I would suggest others follow suit if you got it at Costco. They'll take anything back. 😀

I got mine from Amazon. Today I got notification telling me to update my iPhone and Fitbit app, then remove device from Bluetooth and then start over. I think it worked!

Give it a try.

Oh wow!!! I thought the problem was new to those of us that got them as Christmas gifts.
I agree at $250 they should be calling you telling you exactly how to have it resolved. I am sure when Apple did their updates they did not want to make it easy for the non Apple phone apps, but Fitbit should have been ahead of it.
Sorry for the watch trouble. Hope the New Year brings you lots of steps of joy and blessings !! Even if they don’t show up on your watch. 😉

Found a solution that works for my Charge 3:

These settings allowed me to get vibrating notifications of text messages on my Fitbit and NOT show previews of the content of those messages on my iphone lock screen:

  1. Open the Settings icon on your home screen, then go to Notifications. At the very top, under “show previews,” choose “when unlocked.” THIS IS THE STEP THAT MADE THE DIFFERENCE FOR ME. The other settings are as noted in the troubleshooting instructions posted earlier by Fitbit and others as follows:
  2. scroll further down in that same Notifications section and tap the Fitbit icon. Make sure “allow notifications” is turned on, check “lock screen” “notification center” and “banners” and for “show previews” choose “when unlocked”. (Also, just noting I didn’t have to change banners to “persistent” instead of “temporary” as another poster indicated was the solution for them).
  3. Then tap the word Notifications on the top left to go back to the main Notifications section again and scroll further down and tap the Messages icon. Make sure the settings are the same as noted above for Fitbit notifications (including selecting “When unlocked” for Show Previews).
  4. Under Settings/Bluetooth/Charge3, Share System Notifications is on

Hope this works for others. I still feel we shouldn’t have to change the overall Notifications settings that control notifications for All apps (Step 1) so hopefully Fitbit will fix its software to allow customization of notifications for Fitbit only but in the meantime, this was a decent work around for me.

This is a huge problem! I do not want to set my message notifications to “always” or “only when unlocked” in order to get text notifications. This needs to be resolved ASAP! I work in healthcare and I can’t have info just showing up on my phone.

I think it would be interesting to see: If Fitbit would give all of the iphone users free access to Premium until the notification issue is resolved.

The reasoning behind it would be to promote brand loyalty:

1. Many users here got a brand new fitbit for Christmas and their first experience with Fitbit is a negative one. There is a chance that maybe they were turned off to fitbit or looking to return, but with the premium it gives them something else to look at and focus on while the issue is resolved.

2. For those who have had their fitbits for an extended period of time or had several different trackers because they kept upgrading and now all of a sudden lost notifications offering premium would be a nice way to say thanks for sticking by our side

3. Fitbit would benefit from this as well!  Lets just say fitbit gives premium to 1000 iphone users. People use this for a month or two and they like it! You can't really get much from a 7 day trial can you? So, lets say they convert 10-15% of ios users.  That's between 100-150 new users that signed up for either a monthly or yearly subscription!

To keep it ios related i have an example from when Apple made a mistake! Anyone remember the iphone 4 and "antennagate"?

Here is what apple did:

To calm the media firestorm, Steve Jobs flew back early from a family holiday in Hawaii to stage a press conference. He stood by the iPhone 4 (even playing a fan-made song defending it). However, he addressed Antennagate honestly — and offered customers free iPhone 4 bumper cases that solved the problem. Future versions of the iPhone also corrected the device fault.

Here is a link to the site where i pulled the info:

I bought my son a Versa 2 for Christmas and he gets every other notification but text notifications. To see this has been an issue for months is not reassuring. I am also ready to return it and get an Apple Watch.
