Stopped seeing notifications after updating to iOS 13

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Update 12/13/2019: Please ensure you are on the latest iOS version, currently 13.3. Also check out the updated instructions in our notification help article

This thread is a continuation of our previous discussion on notification issues introduced with iOS 13. If you are experiencing difficulty with your notifications after updating to iOS 13, please carefully follow the steps in this article, which are also documented below.

These steps should resolve the issue when followed correctly. We realize this process can take some time, and encourage you to proceed carefully and deliberately through every step, even if you think you've already done so.

If these steps do not appear to resolve the issue for you, please try them at least once more to be certain, then respond in this thread with specific details about where you were unable to proceed, or what unexpected behavior you are still experiencing.

1. GET UP-TO-DATE

  1. Update the Fitbit app.
  2. Make sure you installed the latest version of iOS. Tap Settings > General > Software update to see if an update is available.

2. CHECK YOUR BLUETOOTH SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device.
  3. Turn Share System Notifications off and then back on. If you don't see the Share System Notifications option:
    1. Restart your Fitbit device. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?
    2. Tap Allow when you receive a message on your iPhone or iPad asking if you want your Fitbit device to show notifications.
    3. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device
    4. Turn on Share System Notifications.

3. CHECK YOUR NOTIFICATION SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings in the top-left to return to the Settings page > Notifications.
  2.  Make sure Show Previews is set to Always or When Unlocked.
  3. Verify the settings for each app that sends notifications:
App Settings
Calendar
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Tap each notification type and verify the settings:
    • Alerts > Notification Center—On
    • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Messages
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Phone
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
All other apps
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked

4. RESTART YOUR PHONE

For instructions, see the Apple help article.

5. DOUBLE-CHECK

If these steps do not resolve the issue for you, please keep your app up to date, and double-check the following:

  • DO NOT DISTURB

This feature prevents your phone from sending notifications. Verify that Do Not Disturb is off:

  1. On your phone, tap Settings > Do Not Disturb.
  2. Make sure Do Not Disturb is turned off.
  • SET UP NOTIFICATIONS IN THE FITBIT APP
  1. With your Fitbit device nearby, tap the Today tab

     > your profile picture.
  2. Tap your device image > Notifications. Follow the on-screen instructions to pair your Fitbit device to your phone.
  3. Choose the types of notifications you want to receive. Tap App Notifications and choose the apps you want notifications from.
  4. Sync your device.

Again, if these steps do not work for you, please try them more than once and then let us know specific details about your experience so that we can assist further. Please keep your app up to data and watch this thread for new information.

Have followed resolution steps diligently numerous times.  Still not getting text notifications at all and call notifications only intermittently since IOS update.  On latest IOS and Fitbit versions.  Only clue maybe that when following Bluetooth instructions I don’t get a message asking me about notifications after resetting Fitbit (although do when forgetting and re-connecting Bluetooth connection).
It really shouldn’t be this difficult and for so many to report the same issue, Fitbit should be investing in a global resolution for its users - who likely now own £ ‘000 000’s of devices which do not deliver what’s promised.

Ok, I’ve been reading this thread and tried everything. The one thing that worked was going to iPhone notifications > messages > show preview and switch it to “always”. This worked when nothing else would!!

Thanks!
I will try and try till I make it work!

It appears (for me anyway) that the Fitbit can't send notifications to my iPhone.  I don't get an "Allow" notification from the Fitbit.  Also can't set up wallet because the Fitbit can't send a verification code to my phone.  All the other settings are as Fitbit says they should be.  Still not receiving any notifications.

@Lverstraete  There are a lot of users here with mixed results some saying that the trouble shooting steps work others saying they don't.

I couldn't help but notice you said you were trying for months, but Fitbit shows the date you registered was today. I had an issue like 5 years ago (unrelated) and fitbit had to reset my account so my start date isn't accurate either.

Do you think its possible that when Fitbit reset your account it allowed the troubleshooting steps to work this time around? Your like the 2nd or 3rd person i've seen report having success with the troubleshooting steps under similar circumstances.

I'm just trying to eliminate some of the variables that exist. I mean an iphone is an iphone you seen one you seen them all.  I also thought it was great when @Baltoscott suggested to one user to delete the bluetooth pairing and set it up as a new device because  that eliminated another variable.

I think feedback like that would be tremendous to Fitbit and the moderators.  I've been monitoring  this thread (40+ pages) as well as the original with 189 pages and one of the few consistencies i've seen is that users with reset accounts seem to have the notifications working!

While selecting “always” for Show Previews also worked for me, If you don’t want to show previews of your text messages on your locked screen when your phone is lying around, try this (i posted this earlier but reposting it in case it was missed).  For texts received when my screen is locked, I just get the notification of sender on the screen and when i unlock it, I have to go into messages to read the content. The only time the text content shows up on the screen as a text is coming in is when my phone is unlocked at the time the message is received. While this is not as good as being able to select “never” for Show Previews, it’s an ok interim solution for me.

These settings allowed me to get vibrating notifications of text messages on my Fitbit and NOT show previews of the content of those messages on my iphone lock screen:

  1. Open the Settings icon on your home screen, then go to Notifications. At the very top, under “show previews,” choose “when unlocked.” THIS IS THE STEP THAT MADE THE DIFFERENCE FOR ME. The other settings are as noted in the troubleshooting instructions posted earlier by Fitbit and others as follows:
  2. scroll further down in that same Notifications section and tap the Fitbit icon. Make sure “allow notifications” is turned on, check “lock screen” “notification center” and “banners” and for “show previews” choose “when unlocked”. (Also, just noting I didn’t have to change banners to “persistent” instead of “temporary” as another poster indicated was the solution for them).
  3. Then tap the word Notifications on the top left to go back to the main Notifications section again and scroll further down and tap the Messages icon. Make sure the settings are the same as noted above for Fitbit notifications (including selecting “When unlocked” for Show Previews).
  4. Under Settings/Bluetooth/Charge3, Share System Notifications is on
  5. In the many attempts to fix this issue, I also did the other steps such as telling Bluetooth to forget the device and then adding it again (you have to go into the Fitbit app to pair to Bluetooth again), deleting and reinstalling the Fitbit app and rebooting the Charge3 in the charger. These steps alone did not solve this issue but am noting I also did these steps earlier in case they also contributed to it eventually working after I finally did Step 1 above.

Sorry for the long post but thought it might help some to see the detailed steps. Hope this works for others. I still feel we shouldn’t have to change the overall Notifications settings that control notifications for All apps (Step 1) and should have the option to select “never” for Show Previews so hopefully Fitbit will fix its software to allow customization of notifications for the fitbit app only.

I’m not sure what you mean by fitbit resetting my account. I did not
contact them today. It says my “start” date is today because it’s the first
day that I actually logged into this forum to make a comment. I’ve been
with fitbit since 2017. And purchased my versa almost a year ago in January
of 2019. So I’m pretty sure the start date you are seeing is just when they
joined the community forum.

The fix for me was setting message previews to always. This is under
setting — notifications— messages. I had that set to never before because
I don’t like my text messages appearing on my phone screen for anyone to
read. But it fixed my fitbit notifications so I’ll have to just deal with
the message previews from now on.

I tried so many things, not even sure whats the thing that made it work.
But one thing i did was change all setting to receive messages in banner
style persistent.
I changed it in Settings for the fit bit and messages, and then turned off
my fit bit and turn it on again.
And changed it on fit bit app also, then I synced it, and now it worked.
Was trying it for hours yesterday and till today I made it work.

@Lverstraete  we are in a thread with 40+ pages of users reporting that the troubleshooting steps outlined on page aren't working for them. At the very least I'm sure we could agree there are have been mixed results

The fix that worked for you hasn't worked for a lot of people here. It's been a few days since anyone from Fitbit has replied to this thread or provided an update to the troubleshooting steps. So we are kind of on our own to help each other out

Since the steps on page 1 worked for you and didn't work for someone else we have to eliminate the variables one of which i though would be the registered date. I think another one  is setting up the fibit as a new device is another.

Although either your registered date is wrong or mine. I started using fitbit November of 2014, but had my account reset in 6/2015 which is why my registered date is a couple years ago.  I didn't sign up for the forum until November 2019, but my registration still reflects when my account was reset. I can't believe there is yet another problem with my fitbit! When will they get it right? Thank you for pointing this out to me!

The always or when unlocked with messages seems to be the key along with persistent.  If I go back to never on the preview then I lose text notifications again.  Not ideal having a preview show up when phone is unlocked but setting it to the quickest lock timer helps a bit with privacy.

My phone did an auto update the other night and since then I haven’t been receiving texts on my Versa lite. My phone calls are coming through still but no texts. I’ve tried everything on every list! I just got this and am really disappointed that it quit working after a few days and an update 😒 Anything else to try? Forgetting the Versa on my app? Will that mess it up? Help!

This is still not working and makes me question buying another Fitbit.  I have been a Fitbit user for many years and have had wonderful support via the Fitbit customer service but this is really quite unacceptable and needs to be fixed!   Beyond disappointing as it is one of the reasons I bought the more expensive Charge 3 and haven't invested in other wearable technology that syncs with my iphone.

Having a device not work for months is unacceptable!
Yes, it was an Apple update. But I purchased this for usage of ALL functions.
If it cannot be fixed, make a resolution. Quit with months of excuses.

It would be nice if people could recognize that iOS 13 wasn’t fitbit’s Idea, FitBit tried very hard to make its products work with sooo many varieties of phone systems, it’s unrealistic to expect them to anticipate every problem that *may* crop up as a result of a phone company updating their products. Please know FitBit wants you happy, and they’re trying to catch up with this latest issue. In the meantime, try to recognize it for what it is. We’re not getting notified on our wrist when we should. Well. That is the LAST reason I got my FIT bit. I got my FIT bit to help me become fit. I have been a fitbitter since 2015 and never have I ever encountered a problem fitbit didn’t fix. Please, be patient! They DO  want us happy with our products!

Thank you for hearing me out, God Bless!

Goodness, it’s not a FitBit update that broke things, it’s an Apple update. Give them some time, folks. Please?

So many awesome features on this watch, don’t get hung up on one thing that they are working on fixing. They are WORKING ON FIXING it, and they will. FitBit never gives up. ☺️
