Update 12/13/2019: Please ensure you are on the latest iOS version, currently 13.3. Also check out the updated instructions in our notification help article.
This thread is a continuation of our previous discussion on notification issues introduced with iOS 13. If you are experiencing difficulty with your notifications after updating to iOS 13, please carefully follow the steps in this article, which are also documented below.
These steps should resolve the issue when followed correctly. We realize this process can take some time, and encourage you to proceed carefully and deliberately through every step, even if you think you've already done so.
If these steps do not appear to resolve the issue for you, please try them at least once more to be certain, then respond in this thread with specific details about where you were unable to proceed, or what unexpected behavior you are still experiencing.
1. GET UP-TO-DATE
- Update the Fitbit app.
- Make sure you installed the latest version of iOS. Tap Settings > General > Software update to see if an update is available.
2. CHECK YOUR BLUETOOTH SETTINGS
- Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
- Tap the information icon
- Turn Share System Notifications off and then back on. If you don't see the Share System Notifications option:
- Restart your Fitbit device. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?
- Tap Allow when you receive a message on your iPhone or iPad asking if you want your Fitbit device to show notifications.
- Tap the information icon
- Turn on Share System Notifications.
3. CHECK YOUR NOTIFICATION SETTINGS
- Tap Settings in the top-left to return to the Settings page > Notifications.
- Make sure Show Previews is set to Always or When Unlocked.
- Verify the settings for each app that sends notifications:
App | Settings |
---|---|
Calendar |
|
Messages |
|
Phone |
|
All other apps |
|
4. RESTART YOUR PHONE
For instructions, see the Apple help article.
5. DOUBLE-CHECK
If these steps do not resolve the issue for you, please keep your app up to date, and double-check the following:
- DO NOT DISTURB
This feature prevents your phone from sending notifications. Verify that Do Not Disturb is off:
- On your phone, tap Settings > Do Not Disturb.
- Make sure Do Not Disturb is turned off.
- SET UP NOTIFICATIONS IN THE FITBIT APP
- With your Fitbit device nearby, tap the Today tab
- Tap your device image > Notifications. Follow the on-screen instructions to pair your Fitbit device to your phone.
- Choose the types of notifications you want to receive. Tap App Notifications and choose the apps you want notifications from.
- Sync your device.
Again, if these steps do not work for you, please try them more than once and then let us know specific details about your experience so that we can assist further. Please keep your app up to data and watch this thread for new information.

CALL FITBIT! (it's funny how it works after calling them but it does)
I called Fitbit directly. The number is 877-623-4997. Mine is working with my iPhone 11 so far after they walked me through re-setting my Charge 3 and my phone.
I will be interested to see how long it works. I was told there would be no further problems.
I learned something interesting too. I was told it would not work on my laptop and phone. Just my phone.
So Good Luck!
I will let you know if it stops working.

With over 30 messages a day, I wonder if any at Fitbit actually reads this message board. I too have tried all suggestions multiple times and text messages will not work.

I wish I'd read this post before I updated my iPhone to iOS 13.3 (from 12.4). Everything was working fine and now I have a watch - just a watch. My Versa tells time and reminds me to move every hour, but none of the notifications I have set (phone calls and text messages) reach my phone. While it does seem to sync with the phone and provide updates on step count, etc. the communication appears to be unidirectional.
In addition to the instructions above that were posted almost 2 months ago I have also removed the device from both the iPhone Bluetooth connection screen and from the app and had the app reconnect the device, I have rebooted my Versa and iPhone so many times it's impossible for anything to be stored in cache.
I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this issue, but i did notice when I attempted the instruction step for settings regarding the Show Preview (options are "Always (default)", "When Unlocked", or "Never" regardless of what I select when I return to the primary notification screen it does not show what is selected, it only shows "Always (Default)." If the Fitbit utility can't recognize what it selected, then how in the world am I supposed to trust that the app or the settings function for the app is functioning correctly.
I have been a Fitbit customer since the original Flex was released. I have recommended Fitbit to numerous friends and family members because of the customer services nature of the company. I find it extremely disappointing, disconcerting, and disheartening that this issue has existed for as long as it has without resolution. The Fitbit that used to exist before being purchased by Google would have found a solution to this issue - either by fixing the software or providing some type of upgrade to a product that does work. Clearly, the days of customer focus are gone.
I rely 100% on my Fitbit to notify me of phone calls and text messages, if Fitbit cannot deliver on what they advertise their device can do, I will need to find a product that can.

My Fitbit Versa app crashes on my iPhone 6 as soon as I open the app, or it crashes when it tries to sync. Totally frustrated 🤨. I have tried the recommended methods many times. Any advice?

I had tried everything with my fitbit unsuccessfully, took it back to where I purchased it and they also had the same problems. I walked out with a new replacement which is working. My other fitbit was just 6 months old.

I’m in the same boat but Fitbit says “out of warranty”. Terrible customer service especially for something not caused by the user. I’ll be going to Apple for a watch at this point.

I had the Fitbit Blaze and never had an issue with my text messages syncing, I recently got the versa 2 and at least twice a week I have to go through the trouble shooting techniques to re-establish a syncing of my text messages.
Please note that while I have syncing issues with text messages, all other app notifications sync perfectly fine, even though the text messages aren't coming through.

It’s insane the only way to get alerts and notifications is when the phone is unlocked! The point of having a connection is to view items when you can’t access your phone. It’s been months without a solution that works the same as it did before the iOS 13 update. This does not inspire confidence in FitBit. Maybe it’s time to move on....
