Update 12/13/2019: Please ensure you are on the latest iOS version, currently 13.3. Also check out the updated instructions in our notification help article

This thread is a continuation of our previous discussion on notification issues introduced with iOS 13. If you are experiencing difficulty with your notifications after updating to iOS 13, please carefully follow the steps in this article, which are also documented below.

These steps should resolve the issue when followed correctly. We realize this process can take some time, and encourage you to proceed carefully and deliberately through every step, even if you think you've already done so.

If these steps do not appear to resolve the issue for you, please try them at least once more to be certain, then respond in this thread with specific details about where you were unable to proceed, or what unexpected behavior you are still experiencing.

1. GET UP-TO-DATE

  1. Update the Fitbit app.
  2. Make sure you installed the latest version of iOS. Tap Settings > General > Software update to see if an update is available.

2. CHECK YOUR BLUETOOTH SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device.
  3. Turn Share System Notifications off and then back on. If you don't see the Share System Notifications option:
    1. Restart your Fitbit device. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?
    2. Tap Allow when you receive a message on your iPhone or iPad asking if you want your Fitbit device to show notifications.
    3. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device
    4. Turn on Share System Notifications.

3. CHECK YOUR NOTIFICATION SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings in the top-left to return to the Settings page > Notifications.
  2.  Make sure Show Previews is set to Always or When Unlocked.
  3. Verify the settings for each app that sends notifications:
App Settings
Calendar
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Tap each notification type and verify the settings:
    • Alerts > Notification Center—On
    • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Messages
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Phone
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
All other apps
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked

4. RESTART YOUR PHONE

For instructions, see the Apple help article.

5. DOUBLE-CHECK

If these steps do not resolve the issue for you, please keep your app up to date, and double-check the following:

  • DO NOT DISTURB

This feature prevents your phone from sending notifications. Verify that Do Not Disturb is off:

  1. On your phone, tap Settings > Do Not Disturb.
  2. Make sure Do Not Disturb is turned off.
  • SET UP NOTIFICATIONS IN THE FITBIT APP
  1. With your Fitbit device nearby, tap the Today tab

     > your profile picture.
  2. Tap your device image > Notifications. Follow the on-screen instructions to pair your Fitbit device to your phone.
  3. Choose the types of notifications you want to receive. Tap App Notifications and choose the apps you want notifications from.
  4. Sync your device.

Again, if these steps do not work for you, please try them more than once and then let us know specific details about your experience so that we can assist further. Please keep your app up to data and watch this thread for new information.

Well... after writing to customer support ( got replies that didn’t care if as a customer I stayed or went to Apple ) a watch that simply refuses to now synch after I updated to iOS 13 a week ago,  trying the suggestions at the start of this post, uninstalling reinstalling, changing tweaking amending settings to all suggestions and finally writing a pm to the moderator asking for help who didn’t reply, I post this today wishing you all in the community all the best for the future.

I feel completely let down by the lack of support from customer support and Fitbit in general over this issue so I decided to bite the bullet ( for better or worse.. can’t be any worse! ) and buy a new Apple Watch tonight.

my worthless ionic goes to the dustbin as it is useless in its current state.

Fitbit, as I wrote to you in a previous email, remember the 10 business commandments ... without a customer you don’t have a business.

I am only one person. One voice ...

listen to the people who follow....

I will most likely be returning my Fitbit and buying an Apple Watch that will at least work.

My Blaze is synching just fine. I’m also getting text notifications.

So your txts need to be displayed on your phone in order for Fitbits to receive notifications?

I have gone through these steps multiple times. I even updated to a new Fitbit and no success.

I have an iphone XR with ios 13.3 and an alta with version 21.40.2. I have followed all the instructions listed here twice.

The first time,  I was able to get notifications on my alta for calendar events, incoming phone calls, and text messages. However, the text messages did not display the message and only displayed the sender even though I chose the options to show previous "when unlocked" or "always".

I restarted my phone but I was given the same results as the first time.

Prior to this ios 13 update a few months ago, I was able to read text messages when my phone was locked.

I'm not sure what the issue is here, but any assistance is greatly appreciated. This has definitely deterred me from using my fitbit and purchasing future ones.

This worked for me on my Alta HR. I tried everything else suggested so thank you for posting. Not my favorite, but glad it works! I was receiving all notifications except texts and now I’m getting all!

Tried each of these steps multiple times (1.Reset the FitBit - felt the buzz, saw the logo, 2.Went to Bluetooth settings on iPhone and made it forget the device, 3. Successfully readded the FitBit, 4. Went to FitBit app and turned off/then on the Notifications which activated it to reconnect with Bluetooth.

I did every step, made sure all apps and phone are up to date (iOS 13.3), but am still not getting messages. Please help!

Ok so believe me I feel your frustration!
I’m assuming you have an iPhone and the latest upgrade to 13.3? That’s what my problem was. You go into your iPhone Bluetooth settings- hit the info next to the Fitbit - then turn off share notifications ( I let it sit for a minute off) then turn share notifications back on.
Then go into iPhone settings and make sure that for texts, calls, calendar allow notifications is on and set to always or when phone is unlocked.

Here’s the step I kept missing: completely shut down your iPhone and let that sit for a minute before powering back up. ( a real power down, not just when you hit the side button for a quick off)
This is what worked for me- I hope it works for you! Keep me updated!

Ugh I’m so sorry to hear that! I had just about given up until I saw the steps for the problems with Apple and iOS 13.3.. I don’t blame Fitbit though- it’s probably Apple’s way of trying to get us to buy Apple watches .

A search of the forum shows the issue dating back to ios 10.

This isn't the first time this has happened! It's probably just more pronounced now that fitbit is more popular than back then.

Given that Apple typically realizes a new generation of ios each year  (10,11,12,13) This issue is over 3 years old!

My wife had this issue with her charge 3.

after checking Bluetooth was turned on (it was) we still got the Bluetooth unavailable message when trying to synch.

I fixed it by going to settings, then scrolling down to the apps to Fitbit. tapping on that brings up permissions. The “allow Fitbit to access Bluetooth” was off

i turned it on and her charge 3 synced with her ios13.3 iPhone straight away.

Try setting your phone notifications to always show preview of text messages. That’s the only thing that worked for me with my Alta HR

I performed the steps as listed three times today as well as numerous times over the last three months. I still receive no notifications for anything other than calls. I did notice if my notification screen is open then it will vibrate. All other times nothing. and we aren’t able to leave that open all the time as it defaults back to the face clock
