Stopped seeing notifications after updating to iOS 13

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Update 12/13/2019: Please ensure you are on the latest iOS version, currently 13.3. Also check out the updated instructions in our notification help article

This thread is a continuation of our previous discussion on notification issues introduced with iOS 13. If you are experiencing difficulty with your notifications after updating to iOS 13, please carefully follow the steps in this article, which are also documented below.

These steps should resolve the issue when followed correctly. We realize this process can take some time, and encourage you to proceed carefully and deliberately through every step, even if you think you've already done so.

If these steps do not appear to resolve the issue for you, please try them at least once more to be certain, then respond in this thread with specific details about where you were unable to proceed, or what unexpected behavior you are still experiencing.

1. GET UP-TO-DATE

  1. Update the Fitbit app.
  2. Make sure you installed the latest version of iOS. Tap Settings > General > Software update to see if an update is available.

2. CHECK YOUR BLUETOOTH SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device.
  3. Turn Share System Notifications off and then back on. If you don't see the Share System Notifications option:
    1. Restart your Fitbit device. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?
    2. Tap Allow when you receive a message on your iPhone or iPad asking if you want your Fitbit device to show notifications.
    3. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device
    4. Turn on Share System Notifications.

3. CHECK YOUR NOTIFICATION SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings in the top-left to return to the Settings page > Notifications.
  2.  Make sure Show Previews is set to Always or When Unlocked.
  3. Verify the settings for each app that sends notifications:
App Settings
Calendar
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Tap each notification type and verify the settings:
    • Alerts > Notification Center—On
    • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Messages
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Phone
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
All other apps
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked

4. RESTART YOUR PHONE

For instructions, see the Apple help article.

5. DOUBLE-CHECK

If these steps do not resolve the issue for you, please keep your app up to date, and double-check the following:

  • DO NOT DISTURB

This feature prevents your phone from sending notifications. Verify that Do Not Disturb is off:

  1. On your phone, tap Settings > Do Not Disturb.
  2. Make sure Do Not Disturb is turned off.
  • SET UP NOTIFICATIONS IN THE FITBIT APP
  1. With your Fitbit device nearby, tap the Today tab

     > your profile picture.
  2. Tap your device image > Notifications. Follow the on-screen instructions to pair your Fitbit device to your phone.
  3. Choose the types of notifications you want to receive. Tap App Notifications and choose the apps you want notifications from.
  4. Sync your device.

Again, if these steps do not work for you, please try them more than once and then let us know specific details about your experience so that we can assist further. Please keep your app up to data and watch this thread for new information.

Me again. I tried doing a factory reset last night.... it’s still not done. It’s literally been updating for over 16 hours..... wtf. It gets 75% done then just stops! At this point I literally can’t use my Fitbit at all. So beyond frustrated with this.

What if you don’t use that feature? I don’t want my texts popping up on my lock screen. That’s why the iPhone has that option.

I just chatted with a FitBit rep online and he there is no fix to this problem currently and they are to be notified tomorrow (1/1/20) if there has been one.
He said they keep telling people to do the steps because they have had instances where it starts working.

I'm not sure if anyone can really expect a fix for the notification issue

Has anyone really, i mean really, read the troubleshooting steps on page 1 of this thread? They don't seem to think it's an issue on their end. So why would they fix something they don't think is broken?

If you read the troubleshooting steps then it should work according to Fitbit and if it doesn't work then you should do it again because you didn't do it right the first time.

It kind of seems like they think its everyone else's fault they don't have notifications.

I'm just curious why the Fitbit CEO hasn't publicly addressed the issue. Nothing fancy, just a little press conference where he walks through the troubleshooting steps and maybe the Fitbit Community chanting "One More Time"

I don't think the issue will be properly addressed until google takes over. At that point Google has no choice, but to fix it because in order for them to capitalize off the data they need actual fitbit users to generate it. It's no good if everyone switched to a different brand.

Sure wish I had seen this thread before purchasing today. Now that I've set it up and synced it I can't even return it to SportChek. Should've just caved and got an Apple watch. I see FitBit hasn't changed much since I last owned one. Brutal.

Hi - my notifications became very inconsistent after I updated my iphone 6s to IOS 13 a couple of months ago (mostly just phone calls.)  However, now I have an iphone 11 Pro and I receive no notifications.  I am unable to follow the directions because I cannot get my Alta HR to show up on the Settings > Bluetooth screen.  I checked in at Verizon to make sure that it wasn't a phone issue, and I have now issues connecting with other bluetooth devices, but my Alta HR does not show up on the Bluetooth screen as discoverable.  Which is strange, as my alta HR is syncing with my phone - my steps and sleep are updated whenever I sync.  I'm guessing this might be part of my issue - how can I get my fitbit to be discoverable on bluetooth?

How is this still not fixed almost a month later? Any plans to get text notifications back from iPhone to versa? I’ve followed these steps several times.

I’ve actually got mine working now! After I posted to the thread that it
wasn’t, I suddenly started to receive notifications. I had to do a lot of
shutting down and restarting but it all works now!

I have the same problem.  You have to go through the steps again and restart the phone and it starts working again.  Very frustrating.

I get stuck when I try to set up notifications in the app. It comes up with an error that my phone cannot pair with my device. All of the other settings are as stated in the instructions, I just can’t get past step two in setting up the notifications in the Fitbit app. As such my device is not getting any notifications.

I have tried all of the above steps many times and it still is not updating my steps in my fitness pal app- please fix

I completed these steps to the letter x3. Still no messages, only phone calls and notifications from other apps. I’ve owned the ionic for one year and valued the pushes messages option. I really don’t have this amount of time trying to chase down a fix only to fail at every turn. Losing a customer here folks.
