Fitbit Alta won't charge

I just got mine in the mail and trying to set it up on my phone. I connect it to the charger to get it going and it won't charge. Screen remains blank. I noticed on the back of the Fitbit there are 3 copper dots that are to connect with the charger. But the charger only has 2 prongs. Could this be the reason?? Can someone tell me if theirs looks the same. Thank you.

Welcome to the forums @unaleed, if you’ve already tried to restart your tracker at least a couple of times and all of the steps mentioned above in this thread, I do recommend that you get in touch with the Customer Support team for further assitance, they will let you know how to proceed. I hope this helps.

Well I got my replacement Alta today because my other Alta was having to be charged everyday.  This is my last try with Fitbit.  I've had the Flex and the Charge and they all have the same problem.

Good! If this one doesn't work, contact Fitbit support and tell them about your problem. Ask for an Alta HR. It is the newest and most likely will work the best. Hope this helped!

I have an AltaHR, brand new only two days old and it will not charge at all!  Tried various outlets in my house, have all the battery sucking options turned off, have gone through customer support and they keep telling my it is "fine" and the battery is "not drained" but when I unplug it and double tap the screen NOTHING.  I am really frustrated...they don't see to want to back their product.

I an in my second Alta HR Fitbit.  My first one would not charge at all.  Fitbit sent me a second one.  I have only had this one for a couple of weeks now and now this one won't charge.  I have tried resetting it without any success!  I really don't want to be on terminal hold with Fitbit again, but I have no choice!  My charge HR never had this problem.  The Alta HR is disappointing at best!

Thanks, I've tried this and it didn't work. It was actually the charger. I got a new charger and it charged just fine.

I had (still have actually) a FitBit Alta (that my son is using) and today it was no longer detected on my laptop when we plugged it in to charge.

We tried the reset, and spent some time with Jose on a support chat to try to trouble shoot it.  We tried a number of things and we have 2 options to remedy the problem.  The first we'll know in about a week to see if it works.  I can say that the help was fantastic and Jose even said they would follow up with an email for me to tell them how it's working.   I have to say that good support and even follow up is hard to find in a disposable world that we live in.  Keep it up.

Ok so I just got my fitbit and of course I doesn't work! I have tried to plug it up but, it doesn't work. I'm not really sure what the problem is, I have cleaned it and everything. Can you clean it with alcohol? Like rubbing alcohol.

I too have problems charging my Alta HR, this is the worst set up for charging you have to fool with it for 5 to 10 min to get the charger connected correctly. Then if you touch or bump it while it is charging it becomes unconnected, and stops charging.  I would definitely buy something else next time.

I feel like I was lucky compared to most of the folks in this community: Fitbit Alta worked from November 2016 to May 11th 2018.

I had to use the restart on a couple of times since I had the Fitbit and that always worked to allow it to respond.

Last night it stopped for an unknown reason. I was able to restart it this morning but then it died about 2 hours later.

Tried the restart process and now it will not even indicate anything on the screen when connected to the charging cable. Tried cleaning the charging posts. (tested the alcohol - it burns really good)

Extra steps to confirm good cable and good connection:

  • electrical tester to confirm voltage on the charging cable
  • electrical tester to confirm continuity across the charging posts on the back of the Fitbit.
  • USB port on the laptop provides a charge for Android phone when connected

Conclusion:

Battery failure in the Fitbit

Solution:

Dig a hole in the backyard and bury it deep. Buy another brand tracker - real cheap one so that when you bury it in the back yard you are not out as much $$$$.

Good luck to all others with the frustrations of owning a Fitbit Alta.
