Fitbit Update: 3/6/19

Hello everyone!

We have some updated troubleshooting suggestions we'd like for all of you on Android Pie (9.0) to try.

First, turn off Background Restrictions/Limitations: Phone settings > Apps & Notifications > Fitbit app > Background restrictions or Background limits.

Then, disable battery limitations:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Fitbit app > Advanced > Battery > Battery optimization
  2. Change view to All apps
  3. Search for Fitbit app
  4. Choose Not optimized

Please give the steps above a try to improve syncing with your Fitbit device and Android 9.0 OS. We're still researching and testing out long-term solutions to this ongoing syncing issue. We thank you for all your patience while we continue to work on this effort.

Fitbit Update: 10/3/18

Hey Everyone!

Our team is still working on implementing a longterm fix for syncing with Android devices on Pie (9.0).

For the background syncing issue, I have posted an update in the other floated thread which you can find here

We released Fitbit for Android version 2.80 today which contains improvements for that syncing issue.

I'll make sure to keep you all updated with more information, as soon as I have it available. We're still working on this and I really appreciate everyone's patience.

Fitbit Update: 9/26/18

Hey everyone!

Thanks so much for your patience and cooperation. We are aware of the issue and working with Google on a solution.

I will continue to provide updates here, so keep an eye on this thread.

Fitbit Update: 9/10/18

Hi, everybody!

Thanks for your patience while our team continues to work on improving syncing for those on Android Pie (9.0). They are actively working on this and for the time being, I recommend you keep the Fitbit app updated on the latest version for best syncing results. Right now that is version 2.78, so if you're not on this version please update! Also, another troubleshoot we recommend is performing a restart on your phone.

When there are more improvements made in the future I'll announce them here. Stay tuned and subscribed to this thread.

Fitbit Update: 8/19/18

We have escalated these syncing issues for those who are now using Android Pie (9.0) to our team for investigation. There aren't any updates at the moment, but rest assured we will keep you informed in this thread when more information is available.

Thanks for your patience!

Fitbit Update: 8/11/18

Hi, everyone! Thanks for stopping by the Community Forums. Smiley Happy

Seems like many of you who updated to Android Pie (9.0) are now having trouble syncing your Fitbit trackers. I'm going to escalate this to our team so they can look into it.

In the meantime, please update the Fitbit app to version 2.76.1 if you haven't yet. Let me know if that changes the syncing behavior. Please follow this thread for updates. I'll keep you all posted here!

I have a pixel IIXL and a fitbit versa and they sync fine. They do stop syncing occasionally but usually I have to restart my Pixel II phone or wait till I move away from so many Bluetooth transmitters like when I am at the fitness center. When I am at the fitness center, sometimes I am not syncing. Then I look at an app II have on my phone called Bluetooth pair. It tells me if there are many Bluetooth devices nearby. If there are, I wait till I am away from them before trying to pair and sync again. Then they sync completely, I get text messages on my Versa, phone calls, the whole thing. Whenever I loose sync it is very frustrating but I open the Bluetooth pair app to see if there is a problem there and/or try restarting my Pixel phone. That has always worked so far. So the Bluetooth Pair app shows that I pair with only two things, my Versa and my car, so I can make calls from my car, hands free. Nothing else.

I think there are issues with Bluetooth low energy and that is the root of the problem. I suspect Fitbit or Google or both can improve that situation. At least I hope so.

I had this problem with a Zip and then with a new Charge3. Solved by uninstalling/removing Fitbit App from phone (I also then turned phone off and on and removed all existing bluetooth paired devices, but those steps may not be necessary). Reinstall Fitbit app. Check phone settings as suggested by Fitbit (background limits/restrictions off and battery not optimized).  Log on to Fitbit, select device and you should now be able to sync to phone.  Good luck, it has been frustrating!

It's been almost a year since Android P has been out, and you had the option to do testing on the preview well before that, and this problem still isn't fixed. But, somehow you've had time to update the UI. After the battery dies in my Zip, I'm done using it. You guys need to hire some new developers.

Hi Slomar,I don't work for Fitbit, but have had a Fitbit zip for 5 years.  My comment was just to let other users know how I fixed the problem.  My main suggestion was to ensure you have the latest version of the Fitbit App on your phone. Cheers.

Sure... My comment wasn't intended to be a reply to you, but rather the original post. My app is always up to date and this problem has spanned two different phones for me now.

Fitbit just released an app update and it seems to have fixed the syncing issue with the Pixel 3XL on Android Pie.  I have only testing it for about 12 hours, but it has synced every time so far.  Fingers crossed.

Is there an issue with WiFi setup for Versa in Android 9 pie?

Just got my Versa today, and I can connect to to my Pixel 1 XL during setup, but then during wifi setup, it finds no wireless networks.

If I try to continue without wifi, and basically tells me I can't as there is an update available.

Works fine on and iphone I had lying around.

Any tips, as it's currently unusable!!

Hi Eds89,I'm not the one to reply being a non-tech person. Better to get in touch with Fitbit, but make sure you have latest Fitbit App loaded on phone.   The connection with the watch will be via bluetooth, so once that connection is made, you should be able to proceed.  Note: your Fitbit App might be "showing" the Versa device, but that doesn't mean it is connected by bluetooth yet.During setup of my new Charge3, once I got the bluetooth connection working, everything worked as it is (or appears to me to be) only your phone using wifi to download the watch software update which it then transmits to the watch via bluetooth.I-phones / iOS software don't seem to be having these issues, only android phones with any Fitbit device. It's very frustrating, but the Fitbit products are very good when they work.PaulWG

Mine hasn’t been able to sync for two days now. I’ve uninstalled the app, reinstalled it, checked my router it’s fine, my watch is practically new (April 2019), took off my Ionic on the app & tried to reinstall it that way. Now I can’t add it back at all! I’ve tried messaging Customer Service Help on Twitter from being directed from here with no response. What gives Fitbit?

Mine hasn't synced in over a week. The time is over an hour behind. I've tried everything recommended by users and Fitbit. Very frustrating. Fitbit won't address the problem or fix it. Based on many of the comments, it seems the app is not compatible with Android 9, also known as Pie. If I was working right now, I would ditch my Charge 3.

This version with Android Pie in the SG-S8 has been my best experience yet. It simply works.

I have a new iPhone & the Ionic was working fine. My other devices sync no problem. My watch is still under warranty.
I may end up contacting corporate because I rely on this watch for many purposes. If they cannot provide service as expected, not answer Customer Service questions & give a dimly reply they are busy-ask for a good time to contact the customer. After what we’ve spent on watches with Fitbit, I could’ve been another brand & excellent customer service. It’s not even keeping proper time now because it won’t sync.

I'm glad it's working for you Rich. I have the S9 and no device is found at all. I finally received Fitbit's  3.0 today, but it meant nothing since the device won't sync with my phone.

I thought the new app update fixed the problem, but after 24 hours back to not syncing again...and the time on the Versa is off by a lot.  This is on a Pixel 3XL running the latest version of Pie.

I think that this is pretty common.  A lot of people who are saying that they got it working by updating the app of following some weird and arcane workflow that Fitbit gives out need to give it a couple of days to see if it really stays working.  In the majority of cases, it doesn't.  I've followed all of the dumb troubleshooting steps and it will work for a while, but it always goes back to not working within a day or two.  I even get notifications for a few hours before it all stops working again.

I'm not sure if it helps but I see the Pixel 3X is still in the testing and troubleshooting stage.

Whenever I have syncing issues I have been able to fix it by simply connecting the watch to the charger for a few mins and taking it off. It worked with my old charge 2 and just today with my versa.

I woke up with no sync this morning and all watch data missing from dashboard on the app. Plugged watch in charger for abt 2 mins took it off and everything back to normal(battery was at 80%+ at the time). No idea why this works but hope it helps somebody.

I think they have given up on all trackers trying to sync with phones using Android Pie. I'm now at the stage of trying a replacement Charge 3.... but I'm not holding g my breath!

My Charge 2 will sync, then randomly stop syncing and I have to re-start
my phone to get it to start syncing again. Once in a while, even a
restart doesn't work, but then it randomly starts to sync again. Go
figure.
