Fitbit Update: 3/6/19
Hello everyone!
We have some updated troubleshooting suggestions we'd like for all of you on Android Pie (9.0) to try.
First, turn off Background Restrictions/Limitations: Phone settings > Apps & Notifications > Fitbit app > Background restrictions or Background limits.
Then, disable battery limitations:
Please give the steps above a try to improve syncing with your Fitbit device and Android 9.0 OS. We're still researching and testing out long-term solutions to this ongoing syncing issue. We thank you for all your patience while we continue to work on this effort.

Our team is still working on implementing a longterm fix for syncing with Android devices on Pie (9.0).
For the background syncing issue, I have posted an update in the other floated thread which you can find here.
We released Fitbit for Android version 2.80 today which contains improvements for that syncing issue.
I'll make sure to keep you all updated with more information, as soon as I have it available. We're still working on this and I really appreciate everyone's patience.

Fitbit Update: 9/10/18
Hi, everybody!
Thanks for your patience while our team continues to work on improving syncing for those on Android Pie (9.0). They are actively working on this and for the time being, I recommend you keep the Fitbit app updated on the latest version for best syncing results. Right now that is version 2.78, so if you're not on this version please update! Also, another troubleshoot we recommend is performing a restart on your phone.
When there are more improvements made in the future I'll announce them here. Stay tuned and subscribed to this thread.
Fitbit Update: 8/19/18
We have escalated these syncing issues for those who are now using Android Pie (9.0) to our team for investigation. There aren't any updates at the moment, but rest assured we will keep you informed in this thread when more information is available.
Thanks for your patience!

Hello @Connieam the Versa/Ionic food app sync issue is a separate issue from the Android 9.
However I noticed that you mention a Surge and this model does not sync food, making me unsure of what the food issue may be.

Why on the website does it list the Google pixel 3 as a compatible device but on the link you provided, it's not listed?

1. Who has a spare phone
2. Why should you have to have another phone as back up.
What rot. Not an acceptable alternative course of action
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone.
With Fitbit, if you want the best syncing experience, the older the phone and operating system the better. They "specialize" in the classics 😉

Updated OS has changes, and not all these changes are comparable with Fitbit yet.
My first thought after a phone upgrade causes an app to fail is to remove app, restart phone. Android still has the same memory management problems that they have had since day 1. Talk about being stale,
Now install fresh copy of Fitbit.

I've got the impression, that with fitbit watches there are a lot of sync issues. It just can't be that the newest android version isn't supported?
Do other fitnesstrackers have similar problems?
And does anyone know a good alternative to the charge 3? I love the design and the functionalities but with all these bugs, I'm thinking about getting a watch / tracker from an other company.

It occurs to me that the sync issues are between My fitness pal and the fitbit software.
My surge still tracks everything fine. I can log food etc into My Fitness Pal just fine.
The my fitness pal data for calorie consumption, water consumption, just dont sync from my fitness pal to the fitbit software.
Could this be the problem?

Tried it. Uninstalled the Fitbit app, restarted phone, reinstalled app. No device found. It's been almost two weeks since I've had an automatic sync. I've been lucky enough to force a sync a time or two, but it only lasted a couple hours. Now can't even do that. About ready to trash this thing.

Yes @Connieam MFP is aware that they have an issue with their link up to Fitbit. We assume that they are looking into this.
@Papierkor654 I can't comment other than to say that all of Fitbits competitors also put out a list of phones that they guarantee to work with.

Eleven (11) months have passed since my Fitbit Zip and Pixel One stopped syncing. Yes, this was immediately after my Pixel upgraded to Android 9.0 Pie on August 6th, 2018.
As of today, July 6th, 2019, there's still no permanent resolution, only a few temporary workarounds.
- Shame on you Fitbit for not resolving this issue after 11 months
- Obviously Fitbit has abandoned Fitbit Zip users on the Android 9.0 Pie platform

Still won't sync even after all this troubleshooting .... my versa is now useless as it can't even tell the time. This problem has been going for over a week. Patch your software and fix the bug. We've paid a few hundred bucks for these watches, the least you can do is fix issues in a timely manner. I've only had it for 6 months.😡😡😡
