I would like to announce that the redesigned Fitbit app starts rolling out today! This new app will help you reach your goals, and bring the health and wellness information right on hand.

@TobiasF - I'm all about option A if Google doesn't do the right thing and restore access to v3.9.  But there is a real security risk associated with apps downloaded outside the Play Store and people need to understand the risks and what they can do to minimize those risks.  The post was cautionary concerning a choice we all need to make absent Google doing the right thing by their user base.

Here we are almost a week after the update....I'm hanging around in anticipation of a resolution to all of this...

I note today on the Play store, the overall rating for the Fitbit app has gone down to 3.8 (I think it was 4.5 yesterday) and there are now lots of recent reviews to reflect this (prior to today they only went up to 28th Sep)- so we need to keep adding these review it seems they just take a few days to show.

Me too, I absolutely hate the new look!! 
I have cancelled my premium subscription and next device I buy won’t be a Google product !  It’s a real shame as I loved everything about my Fitbit prior to this abhorrent upgrade.

I have never commented or even looked at the fitbit forums since I got my first fitbit in 2015.  But this latest update has prompted me to post a reply.  First, the fact that there is no way to either revert this back to previous or have the option of switching between them, coupled with the overwhelming 100% negative feedback towards this app design change tells me that this change did not get any user feedback or input.  The design is horrendous, completely mis-utilizes available space on things like smartphones and from an intuitive perspective - well, it is not intuitive whatsoever.  If they wanted to keep a semblance of the old layout and slowly change colour schemes, that would have been more palatable, but this...my goodness, I don't have the words.

There is also inconsistency within the metrics.  If you look at your water and sleep metrics, it shows the previous chart with a graph followed by the daily records.  Same for sleep . Yet for things like steps they completely change it to just for "today" and then waste ore space with workout videos.  I have to click WEEK tab just to get the weekly day amounts and even then they are in such big fonts that I swear my pre-teen son designed this using MS Paint.  

The fact that they removed battery charge - why would they do that?  What is the advantage?  My Versa 4 watchface doesn't show a reliable battery charge (it says 100% all the time) and the only way I would be able to determine battery levels is to plug it into the charger, or wait till I get the low battery email, neither of which hold any advantage over having the app show it.

I typically blindly update my apps on my phone thinking that they are closing security gaps, etc.  Shame on me for not reading that this was a complete redesign, but the fact that it is a redesign that sets back usability to what I even think is PRE-2015 levels, it is a slap in the fact of the community who have supported Fitbit products over other brands.

I agree with the majority of people this update seems like a downgrade. I liked the colors on the previous version they helped me comprehend my stats easily. I hope fitbit will take people’s feedback and change this as soon as possible or allow us to revert to old version.

I literally thought something was wrong with my phone when I went into the Fitbit App. It looks like a web page that hasn't completely loaded. I went to the shopping cart looking for an update. This screen is horrible and so boring no color looks like a kindergarten student drew it. Come on fitbit what the heck were you thinking!!!

The main screen is awful.   Also I can't check if my FitBit is charged. I don't know why people insist in changing something that works.  Change for change sake doesn't help.  It didn't improve anything.  You get used to finding stuff in a certain place. Then someone goes and rearranges it.  Seems more about programmer showing their skill than what customers want or need.   Went from colorful to drab.

I absolutely agree! It’s HORRIBLE! Absolutely vile. I want the old format as a choice. This new one is impossible to personalise and it looks terrible! Hate everything about it including the ghastly colour.

Plus the pencil gives no options. It’s totally pointless having a so-called “edit function” that doesn’t allow us to actually edit or choose something!

Well said, I have not seen a positive review, and at least you had a choice to upgrade, mine did it overnight, woke up to check my sleep time and bam, right in my face, I up hope they are listening, ( probably not),

Do you have to goto the App Store or is this chat room help downgrade the service they are providing

You know I use Chrome at work and it seems like every other week we have to install new updates or it disappears, kind of like I am going to do, disappear from Fitbit

Hey "Bobby",  cut out the snarky attitude. The new app moved data and I can't get info back into the order I prefer. You may be happy, appears the majority of users on thread are not.

I do not like the new format on the app. Is there a way to return it to the old format?

I would like my tiles in a specific order and there are some tiles I do not need. I have tried multiple ways to remove or move around tiles to different spots.

Ugh, I got the update today and selected 3 options to focus on. But the last one that I selected shows up on the top and I cannot reorder or remove it. I want steps on top so I don't have to continually scroll down whenever I open.

That's another thing!! It doesn't save any exercise! Walking, biking etc.
It doesn't auto recognize any of them.
It's terrible!!

The same here! It just gets stuck of freezes. You can't keep track of what
you've done and how many more steps you need unless you shut down the app
and reopen it or end the walk and start another one!! It's totally useless!!

The elimination of desired features on this horrible new UI is incomprehensible, but the Company has the right to make bad policy decisions.

Releasing software with the number of significant defects seen in this update is irresponsible and indefensible. Where was the QA team? Did anyone actually use this app to see if it worked?

The number of basic things that this app is supposed to do that is can't do is embarrassingly large, and the dis-functionality appears to be increasing.  As of yesterday afternoon, the app randomly stops tracking steps and heart rate in real time. I have to refresh the screen every two to three minutes to force it to resume tracking. I used real time tracking to correlate number of steps to heart rate so I could optimize intensity of workouts. Can't do that anymore.

Even if you choose to ignore all of the legitimate calls for feature restoration (which you should not do), please:

  • Fix the bugs.
  • Do good QA.
  • Beta test with actual device users before release to the general user base.
  • If there are defects reported, respond rapidly and address them.

Joan, I got an answer! 

So not intuitive!  But, if you are having the same concern, what you do is 1) go to the TODAY tab 2) you will be looking at the box that shows the category that is currently on the top of your normal screen with a button selected in the upper right hand corner, 3) SWIPE LEFT to see the other categories that you had picked, 4) click that circular button in the upper right of the category you want on top, 5) hit SAVE. 

SOOO not intuitive!!! Who would think to swipe left?

I have a PhD in Computer Science from MIT.  Human Engineering is my specialty.  The new interface, as others have said, is AWFUL.  The designers added fluff, made the true content harder to see, and even made it ANNOYING !

The fast counting up to the number of steps is a gimmick !  The deletion of the week look at steps or sleep is strange.  And the rounding up of the few graphs is pointless.

I too will be looking at other options.  I have had a Fitbit for years.  I cannot say how much I dislike the new interface.  It is NOT a matter of getting used to.  It is   A COMPLETE DISASTER ! ! !
