Connectivity difficulties between Aria and Comcast/Xfinity routers

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hi everyone! It has come to our attention that some users are experiencing issues with syncing/setting up Aria scales with Comcast/Xfinity routers and we are currently reviewing.

There is a workaround that has helped most users. For this, follow the instructions below:

  • Log into comcast/xfinity account
  • Once logged in,  visit https://internet.xfinity.com/more
  • Edit wifi settings under "Additional Settings"
  • Click on 2.4 frequency edit button.
  • Select g/n, hit save.
  • When the screen refreshes, click edit again, select b/g/n and hit save.
  • Stand on scale
  • Continue with the regular setup process

Thank you all for your patience. Any update available, I'll make sure to share it in this thread.

A B mode device should be able to connect to a G mode router.  G is backwards compatible with B.  This is not the problem.  Another G mode only router I've tried has worked.  This solution suggested at the beginning of this thread is completely bogus.

Does that include the new Xfinity xFi modem router?
My Fitbit one works fine without any changes after installing the new router however my Fitbit scale has never connected
Right now I’m trying to figure out how to get into that please to change the mode.

Aria just doesn't work with Comcast for some other technical reason.  I plugged my old linksys wifi router into the Comcast one and connected to that instead.  Or see what Comcast says on the phone.

That sounds like a great idea

What a ton of crap. You released the Aria in 2012 with wireless B technology 13 years after wireless B was released (in 1999) your supposed to be this company that's built on the forefront of technology (why isn't 56k an option? beee bop boing krrrcchhhhhhhzzzzz).

Now it's 2019 and the technology is 20 years old. That is so inexcusable but I'm sure with all of the customer dissatisfaction you learned your lesson right?  NOPE because you turn around and release the Aria 2 in 2017 and it only uses Wireless b/g/n. SERIOUSLY?? Who uses that anymore? NO ONE. You can't even buy a wireless b router anymore because they stopped making them! You can't even make it Bluetooth so can at least sync with your phone?

You continue to have great product ideas and then there is always this tiny thing that you completely blow that makes everyone say WHAT?!?!?! People are already mad about dropping $130 on a "Wifi" paper weight that doesn't work, but to make the same mistake in 2017 USING OLD TECHNOLOGY AGAIN?

People have a right to expect that your not selling them equipment that is obsolete before you even get it home. Who would ever buy a scale from you after getting burnt the first time?

Anyone got a 1990's wireless b router laying around? No? Me either. Best to just skip any fitbit scale on the market period, "Make sure it's within 10 feet of your router" <---- LOL That gets me every time

Clearly Fitbit could not care less. My Renpho scale was a lot less and does a lot more.

Has anybody heard from Fitbit?

I can tell you that I dug up an old router that supports wireless b and set it up as a separate wireless router on my network, with a different name,  whose only purpose is to connect to the scale. It worked, you just need to be within 10 feet and toss some salt over your right shoulder.

I don’t see how they can make your scale go for. Wireless b to something current? Whatever they made a mistake, you move forward. What really kills me is they turn around and do the exact same thing with their very next scale. Who makes something that can’t be updated over the internet circa 2010? I just don’t get how they could make one gigantic error and follow it up by doing it a second time.

They are selling a product that can’t work on contemporary hardware, they refuse to support, and don’t warn on their packaging.  It’s not acceptabld

Hi everyone,

Happy New Year.  It is for me, because I disconnected my Aria scale and installed the Renpho scale that arrived yesterday from Amazon.  About $30.  On the iPhone app it records 13 items:  Weight, Body Mass Index, Body Fat, Fat-free Body Weight, Subcutaneous Fat, Vixceral Fat, Body Water, Skeletal Muscle, Muscle Mass, Bone Mass, Protein, Basal Metabolic Rate and Metabolic Age.  Not only are those recorded, but each also indicates if you are below average, average or above average. The scale connects to the phone app by Bluetooth.  Your Weight and Body Fat readings can also sync with the Fitbit phone app and the Fitbit website.  I posted on 10-27-18 my experience with the connectivity difficulties and how I just switched to manually entering the 2 readings from the Fitbit scale.  I was not about to try all the various workarounds and extra expenses of time and money.  Good luck with whatever you decide to try.

I have an aria around 4-5 years old. I moved and signed up with a new ISP. My router is an Arris TG3482G. I can not get my scale to connect. My issue is that my router doest even offer an 802.11/b option i get an 802.11/n or an 802.11/n/g option. Thats it. Is there anyway around this from what I have read in this thread my scale is bricked and useless now.

The only workaround that others on this thread have had success with is to plug an old router (and I mean old - if you don't have one laying around, thrift stores are probably the only place to find one) into one of the Ethernet ports on your Arris (is your ISP Xfinity/Comcast?) and either set it up as a separate network with its own SSID etc, or as a wireless access point.  Instructions for the latter are here: https://www.labnol.org/software/add-router-to-wireless-network/19716/ or just google "use old router as access point."  Just be sure when you're setting it up to set it to wireless b or b/g standard.

This works for me (I had a 10-year-old Linksys WRT54Gs ver 1 laying around) and is letting me continue to use my otherwise obsolete Aria scale, but it's only a workaround that adds another piece of outdated equipment to my network.  The solution would be for Fitbit to step up to the plate, take responsibility, and do the right thing by its customers.  But after months (or is it years) of discussion on this thread and no word from Fitbit, I'm not holding my breath.

When my Aria finally gives it up and goes to techno heaven, I'll likely get one of those RenPho scales folks here are raving about.  And unless you're really attached to your old Aria, my sense is you'd be better served by doing this instead of my workaround.

Good luck.

The scale should work with other 802.11/n/g routers.  It just doesn't work with Comcast's router for some other strange reason.

Guess I won’t be trying it then. I just upgraded to the Comcast Gateway and now my Aria scale won’t connect. The scale I’ve had for a few years now. But I don’t want to mess up the connection and speed of my other devices. Guess I’ll just manually input my weight when I weigh. 😞

Options for those of us this doesn't work for?  No point in this thing if I can't get it on my phone and sync'd with my data.

JuanJoFitbit,  Has been months and still have to jump through these hoops every couple weeks to reconnect my scale to my Comcast router (only wireless device of many in my house that requires this attention).  Clearly Fitbit has no intention of fixing this issue with the scale.  Seem to spend a lot of effort and money developing new products (yet year over year sales are down and competition is growing) not so much fixing issues with those already in use ... remember, happy existing customers help future revenue growth too ...

It’s ridiculous I haven’t been able to connect my aria scale since June we need some sort of fix for this Comcast issue this is ridiculous
