Firmware version 17.8.301.8 - Resolves a syncing issue with Apple iOS version 10.2

Workout mode missing? Not a problem! Just follow the steps for adding it back

 Hey everyone! Robot Happy

We're rolling out a new update for Blaze, release notes below:

  • In addition to call, text, and calendar event notifications, thirdpartyapps.jpgyou can receive notifications from email and other third-party apps on your tracker.Common emojis also appear. Keep in mind all notifications currently on your tracker will be deleted after the update.
  • You can receive reminders to move throughout the day.
  • Five new clock faces are available. Navigate to your device settings and check them out!

This release also resolves the following issue:

  • Some users reported that auto-brightness was too dim or delayed.

Important to note: A sync is required after a manual shutdown or a battery drain in order to show the correct time on Blaze. This is especially important for your activity tracked by Blaze because you'll want to make sure it's associated with the current date and time.

My phone says that I have an update to download, but when I click on the "Update Tracker" bar, nothing happens other than a flash indicating that I touched it. What should I try?

Hi there, I have the update tracker banner and when I click on it it says "Request failed: forbidden (403)" Any ideas on this?

@copyeditrix Can you verify that you are using the latest version of the Fitbit app? @Suncountry had a similar experience yesterday which was solved with an app update.

Really like your attitude, @kenlpeters. In fact, quoted one of your comments in a blogpost.

@Ash.be.fit Try closing out of all of your applications.  I have an iPhone and did that and it worked.

@Ash.be.fit make sure that your Fitbit is fully charged or it won't do it either.

Just wanted to say thank you guys for all of the updates and putting up with our frustrations.  Hopefully, Fitbit will learn how to communicate better from this experience.  You guys have been awesome in answering lots of our questions and helping us through this process.  Much, much appreciated!

In the end, I'm extremely satisfied with the update, mostly due to the "Moment" clockface, which shows everything that I want and need.

One request that I would like in the future however,  is a lock screen that would disable random taps of the face while working out.  Oh, and the guided breathing sessions as well 😉

Thanks and keep up the great work!  Happy stepping everyone!

To report on the update process, a bit.

Took 15 minutes using Fitbit Connect on a MacBook Pro with a fast connection, keeping my wrist (and, therefore, the tracker) on the keyboard the whole time.

Added my first app notification by liking one of my own tweets. Twitter wasn’t added directly until I tapped on the iPhone notification. But it was then in the appropriate screen, without having to do anything special.

As others have said, Moment is a very informative watchface. It feels like it could have been the default face, as a way to “show off” the type of data we’re collecting on ourselves. Is the colour of the digits changing with heartrate zones, like the Zone face? That’d be a neat extra feature without adding more complexity to the screen (or affecting battery life too significantly). The face changed on the continuous sync, not requiring a “hard sync” (had issues with some of this with past Fitbit devices).

The granularity in the inactivity reminders is pretty decent. You set hours (between 5 and 14) and days during which these things should pop up. Makes quite a bit of sense, especially for those who have regular schedules.

There’s been a comment about losing exercise preferences. Haven’t had that experience. Something which might have been the case with the previous version of the firmware is that, on the app, only the “Run” exercise shows the GPS submenu, not the “Walk” exercise. On the tracker, the Connected GPS does work with “Walk”.

Speaking of things which weren’t changed with the update but are interesting in context… The device is still English-only but the app’s new screens are properly translated into French.

Altogether, the update was worth the wait. Really glad it came while my device is still within the store’s return policy as it’ll allow me to make a sound decision about whether or not to keep it. It’s clear that the Blaze is the ideal Fitbit for me, at this point in time. What remains to be seen is if the Fitbit Blaze is the ideal activity tracker for me in the foreseeable future. If the Pebble 2 arrives “on my doorstep” before the end of the return period for the Blaze, it’s quite possible that I’ll leave the Fitbit world once again. In the meantime, though, it’ll be great to really test out this full-featured, smartwatch-like activity tracker.
