The Jumping June step challenge is nearly over so it’s time to sign up for July. Jaunty July? Yeah, well, it is super hot in the Northern hemisphere, and super cold in the Southern hemisphere, so it is best just to have a little attitude about your steps and get at it. 🙂
How It Works:
The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.
Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.
Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total
Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week
Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

@A_Lurker wrote:I certainly didn't match my goals in June, but lets set them for July:
1) 11,000 steps each day
2) daily push ups (1 or more)
3) 7h sleep average each week
4) decluttering/cleaning/yardwork each day
5) checking in each day
1) 14/31
2) 14/31
3) week 1 (5h44m), current week (7h32m)
4) 14/31
5) 10/31
So I finally started moving some of the stuff I have started to collect out of the house. I got 10 bags of my mothers clothing to a local thrift shop yesterday and today, with sadly a few bags not filled up yet. She always had a lot of clothing - this is not the first batch. When she passed away I donated the clothes she had with her at the retirement home, along with some coats and boots in the front closet. I'm not planning on finishing everything next week, but now I can only take things in once per week. I may also go through my own closet as I'm sure I have stuff that I can get rid of too. They say if you haven't worn it for a year (ie. a season) you probably won't wear it.
Thanks all for the best wishes on the new job. I'm very much looking forward to it, even though I was kind of enjoying the summer off so far.
@Ennay- I've struggled with depression off and on. It started mostly once I was dealing with caring for a family member with physical injuries and dementia. I was having issues at work at the same time and there was no relief as I didn't want to be either place. The situation for both changed, but it took a long time before things improved. I'm still really not back to where I was before those things happened. Take care.
@benvegi- I used to be one of those people who lived in the city. I was lucky in that I was about 10 mins away from a bike path built on an old hydro path. It ran about 8k total, with one end coming out very close to the lakeshore. I don't miss the city, but I know where you are coming from.
@WendyB- congrats on the weight loss! I'm not paying any attention to my weight at the moment. I step on the scale from time to time and there isn't much movement. I'm okay with that at the moment. Being off work my food routine is out of whack. Some days I eat too much, other days too little. I'm actually looking forward to getting back to work as it will force me into a better routine.
@PaigeFruity- welcome!
@Baltoscott- great pictures. 🙂

I heard a new term yesterday--Turtle Myopia. During the day, I focused on completing the next mile and marking it on the table. It would be better if I had a hard copy so I wouldn't waste time on the computer. Goal for today: waste time making a hard copy.
I enjoyed the pictures. Maybe one month, you can have a hometown picture theme. I suggest September or October when it's cooler.

July 14
8,000 steps 12 days -- 7/12
15,000 steps 10 days -- 5/10
35 Jumping Jacks 22 days -- 11/22
Floor Exercises w/weights 12 days -- 6/12
i earned another badge yesterday - whoop!
But I’d have to massively increase my daily steps if I ever hoped to make 100,000 by the time I’m 100! 😂

Congratulations on your badge!
Don't worry, I'll grant automatic extensions if you don't get to 100,000 by 100. It will be up to you to take care of the details so you can take advantage of the extensions.

@Baltoscott I think you look the part as a train driver. Though the big grin make you look like it is not your usual occupation!
15 July
10,000 steps a day for 20 days 12/20
Swim 2x per week 4/8
Dance 6 hours a week 7/6 14/24
One Coach workout or bike ride per week 3/4
4 Jaunty walks over the month 2/4
I'm up in Perth for another dance comp, so my step totals are suffering for three days. But had a really good competition today - very happy with how we went. A couple of hours of lessons tomorrow before we head back home.

I like that idea @GershonSurge. I always enjoy the pictures we occasionally post here. It would be fun to add a monthly theme for that. Hometown picture tour sometime this fall ought to be colorful for both the Northern and Southern Hemisphere participants — for different reasons.

Morning all!
19.9K yesterday, 2871 burn.
Today will be a challenge, I have been walking early to beat the heat and was intending to do the same but this morning I slept and slept and slept and could not wake up and when I finally did it was already 8:30! It's already hot out, I'll go in a little bit for a walk but no run today. Hopefully this evening I can get in more of a walk. It will be warmer then but without the sun beating down on me. The only really shady walking area in town is closed today for a car show.
Hometown tour pictures of my town wouldn't take very long! I can walk the entire way AROUND the outskirts of my town in about 7 miles and the entire way around the interesting parts - eliminate the subdivisions and fast food strip - in about 3 miles. But some cool old (by west coast standards) stuff.

I put on some 'good vibrations' music [YES, the one and only Beach Boys!] and did some good ol' 60's style dance moves while walking about! Not only GREAT exercise, but released some of those 'feel good' hormones!!! Wishing everybody a great week!

Shooting for an average step count of 14 k, 7 miles, 30 floors per day, plus check in twice a week.
7/13 steps 17.2 k, 43 floors, 7.7 miles
7/14 steps 22.5 k, 64 floors, 10.38 miles
7/15 steps 20.6 k, 32 floors, 9.29 miles -- lots of walking inside the house, mostly because I was baking "camping pancakes", these are great for hiking as they do keep well on a day hike. Oatmeal, whole wheat flour, flax/chia flour, nutritional yeast, raisins, apples, craisins, walnuts, vanillia, cinnamon, coconut milk, water, eggs. Sixty five total 4" dia pancakes takes about 3 hours total. So, lots of time waiting on cooking left me to walk about the house. We did sneak in a 1 mile walk up the hill early. Rained in the afternoon.

17391 steps, 2913 burn.
MTA: I forgot it was Monday and time to put in the monthly progress:
Steps: 212494 - +9994 ahead of target
Burn 39514 - 986 behind
Weight loss - well if I go by today it is +0.6, but I think it is really -0.2. Having a water spike today but I think that is signalling that the plateau is about to come to an end. I usually spike before I lose.
I need 2800 a day to catch up and a little extra because I will be on vacation the last 2 days of July. Realizing I may not get an accurate measurement on vacation because we have water activities planned and I dont have a waterproof fitbit.
Since it was already hot I focused on NEAT yesterday and cleaned my air conditioned house. I have a lot of decluttering to do. Took a walk at 8 pm and it was still insanely hot. I really feel for the large % of people here without A/C as it never cooled off last night.
Got in a short run/walk this morning (HOT!) and will try to clean more today. Wednesday the heat is supposed to break slightly and I really hope so because I have 1pm baseball tickets in a sunny part of the stadium. This seemed like a great idea when we were in the low 70's.
@benvegithat is a LOT of pancakes! How many people are camping? They sound yummy.
@WendyBsometimes nothing days are needed
@Jotex I need to jaunty walk a bit!

This was supposed to be a 15,000-step day, but life stepped in (kind of in a jaunty way!). Hubby had his last radiation treatment today (whoop!) so cut down my workout time to celebrate! 🎉🍷🍷

@benvegi that is a lot of pancakes. Never thought of freezing them. When we make them its always more than we can eat. I will freeze the left overs now.
