The Jumping June step challenge is nearly over so it’s time to sign up for July. Jaunty July? Yeah, well, it is super hot in the Northern hemisphere, and super cold in the Southern hemisphere, so it is best just to have a little attitude about your steps and get at it. 🙂
How It Works:
The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.
Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.
Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total
Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week
Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

@benvegi — now I want to make some of those pancakes. All the ingredients sound good; do you have the recipe written down, or does that all happen in your head? 🙂

I decided to make a box for each 100 miles and put the total in each cell. The format works well for a journal I started keeping. I've been reading The Pleasure Trap by Dr. Doug Lisle and discussing it with my coach each day. Although the book is targeted at the reasons people eat junk foods, the same concepts can be used for this 100,000 mile journey.
Those pancakes sound scrumptious.

Cooling off a little today and then tomorrow should be better. Didn't make it out for a morning walk, will try for a short one in the heat and then maybe late tonight. Lots of sitting required today.
dh bicycled to work this morning. He used to ride 2-3 days a week and hasn't in years. I'll admit I am not as supportive of it as I probably should be but it usually means he isn't home until 8 pm. It's not like before when then kids were little, but it still cuts in to family time and he is planning on riding on the days he doesn't already work too late to make it home for dinner.
Also, this area has become aggressively anti-bike the last few years. Nothing stirs an internet debate on the local community page faster than "jerk cyclists who have no business riding on roads" (because the page bans politics, but it gets that heated) and the vast majority are vehemently anti bike to the point of victim blaming a guy who got hit by a car last month that crossed the center line intentionally to hit him and then drove off. So there is that too. Buzzing cyclists is sport around here. dh has been shot at by a pellet gun while riding.
I want the @benvegi pancakes and I don't. I think I would like them tooooo much.

Pictures of the "camping pancakes"- they don't look great in the photos. One picture of them naked, one dressed with Almond butter and Cherry jam. Let's not forget the Avocado toast. For size reference that is an 8" diameter plate.

@Baltoscott It's in my head and may vary from month to month. But here are the basics. You will need a good health food store or Lucky's Market, Whole Foods to find these ingredients in bulk.
8 cups old fashioned Oatmeal
2 cups Buckwheat flour
2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup white flour
1/3 cup flax/chia blend (this is more of a flour than seeds)
1/2 cup nutritional yeast
2 Tbls aluminum free baking powder
4 -5 Tbls Cinnamon (6% or Vietnamese type if you can find it)
1 - 14 oz bag of Coconut flakes (my bag says sweetened may have to change that)
1 to 1 1/2 cups walnut halves chopped with big knife on cutting board. 🙂
1 1/2 cups Craisins
1 cup raisins
2 "normal" apples, that is organic. If you buy grocery store GMO apples just use 1. I don't know how they grow apples the size of small grapefruit but we won't eat them. I cut the apples in 1/4's skin on, deseed, slice each 1/4 into 5 or 6 pieces, then cut those into small pieces.
Mix all of these dry ingredients in a very large bowl, then.....
4 large eggs or 6 small eggs
1 cup water
and mix well
Add, 2 cups coconut milk, 2 tbls Vanilla mix, now stir this mixture into the dry ingredients. You will have to add more water as you go. Let the dough mixture sit for about 20 minutes so the Oatmeal can soak up the water.
You want the consistency of the dough to be able to hold about 1/3 cup on a soup spoon. Or use an ice cream scoop. Scoop onto a lightly oiled cookie sheet, flatten with the back of the spoon to make a patty 3.5" to 4" dia and about 1/3 to 1/2" thick, or vary to you desire.
Bake at 355 for 12 minutes, turn over and bake for another 8 minutes. Vary cooking times based on the "doneness" of your first batch. These cakes are much firmer than regular pancakes when done.
That's all there is too it! You probably can reduce the recipe to try it out, have to do that on your own, good luck and let me know how they turn out.

havent slept with the fitbit in months because I didnt need it telling me my sleep was bad. And it thought I was sleeping one morning when I got out of bed, drove my kid to school and got back in bed. Perhaps I was.
But I did last night because my RHR is so far off with only daytime wearing. It lists it as 58-59 and yesterday after climbing the stairs I looked and it was at 55. I routinely am lower when reading than it lists, but going up stairs should be a clue. It was 47 when I first woke up this morning.
Off to a minor league baseball game with my son and his hyperactive friend. Wish me luck!
@benvegi- those look good! And filling
@SeleneD- cute pup!

So I have a little spreadsheet that tells me at any moment of the day how many calories I need to have already burned to do nothing but sit on my butt the rest of the day and still make my burn goal. All week this has meant an 8 pm walk to catch up. After nearly 4 hours in the hot sun I can not tell you how happy I am that at 7:45 I am allowed to sit in a chair the remainder of the night.
Also. I was so concerned making sure the blonde pale kid was sunscreened I forgot to put on sunscreen. Ow. My right side is burned.
