Hello Ionic family!
We’re excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 4.1.2.
We started releasing this new update to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.
*Firmware releases aren’t distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside.

Ever since the update Ionic not counting floors climbed. I do on average a min of 20 floors a day and not one is now being recorded at all.

@DucceMicke If you check ALL my post history you will see I started as a constructive and polite poster. I dont consider anything I post to be rude, but I now have no patience for seeing the same mistakes and soft soaping of customers repeated over and over so I "cut to the chase".
Being polite and patient here got me nowhere, but after I had given up on Fitbit and was telling the truth of my experience to others on Facebook and elsewhere Fitbit for some reason decided to give me a replacement device.
That was the OS 4.0 update, about a year ago. I had previously expressed concerns about that update here and when the worst happened I, like many others, was offered the usual 25% off which I declined. That was then upped to 40%, which I declined. After I had given up on Fitbit and was openly complaining about a $250 device that the company would not stand behind on social media Fitbit chose to replace MY Ionic pebble, much to my surprise.
So that was a good thing for me I guess, but while they eventually did the right thing by me, they continued to spout the line in public that they had to stick to their warranty policy, and denied many many other users with devices that did not survive the OS4 update. This really got under my skin because I knew it was flat out untrue, (as do you if you have had two replacements outside of warranty) I was raised to believe that everyone should get the same treatment, and also that if you screw something up, then you are responsible for fixing it as much as that is in your power to do.
Having been a fairly long time customer I have seen this update debacle repeated at least 3 times now, each time with many innocent users caught in the middle with bricked devices and Fitbit offering 25-40% off new replacement purchases. I'm an Engineer for a living and appreciate that things can go wrong, but what is inexcusable is repeating the same mistakes over and over. It's ridiculous, and its high time Fitbit stopped rolling out faulty updates that do this.
Stop treating customers as brainless idiots and actually provide point by point information on what each update addresses and hopes to improve so that consumers can provide informed consent when updating, and if you have updates that have a long history of damaging devices then give customer the option to opt out, and/or replace the ones you break in a timely and efficient manner.
I hope they fix your issue, to me it sounds more like a software malfunction? At least you are not bricked out so there is hopefully a fix available with updated or reinstalled software.

Man... I'm horrified to say at least...
Fitbit devs didn't learn from their mistakes or simply put, the hardware on the failing Ionics doesn't cope with the new firmware requirements. As you, @Iain_K, I get a replacement for my first Ionic that was bricked by the previous firmware update. Just died as it has a bomb watch in it that the firmware update triggered. I was so mad, perfectly working watch ruined by the update.
I was "screaming" on all social media channels and support email and they decide to replace my Ionic for free. The replacement updated to the previous firmware and now it is working like my first Ionic that got bricked. I will not update the watch ever. I will simply close the iOS app notification as much as they let me do that and continue to stay with the firmware I have now. The watch is doing what I want and nothing more.
But man... you do not learn from your mistakes? You keep doing them over and over again?
What's wrong?
I am with Fitbit from their first Fitbit Flex (2013) and I cannot switch. All my data is on their server. I know I can download it, I did, but I cannot use it with another watch from another manufacturer.
I hope that they will sort it out or they will not update the iOS app (that I do not update it either) and block me to sync my data and force me to update the firmware... I hope...
Julian

Painless update.
More menu options to set on side button in settings.
Seems to work pretty well!
I have 2.5 year old well used Ionic.
Fitbit App resides on iphone 8 plus.

My Fitbit is still working (counting steps, vibrations on notifications, green light flashing at the back) but the screen went black and will not switch on after yesterdays update.
I have tried to charge, restart but nothing is working.
Please help.

I have the same problem. It seems to be a font issue. I installed the "thexa" watch face, which uses graphics rather than fonts to display some info. It is a little bit better than nothing.

Hey everyone! Thanks for getting back.
I truly appreciate your feedback, please note that this hasn't been unnoticed, we're always working to provide you with the best customer service.
I understand how you feel about your Ionic's screen not working. I've created cases for the ones that are experiencing this, our team will be glad to continue assisting you. Rest assure that each case is reviewed individually and the option provided is based in the Fitbit Warranty.
@DucceMicke Thanks for the details mentioned. It's definitely pretty weird that you're no longer seeing numbers or letters on your watch. I've created a case on your behalf with our team. Due to recent events affecting our operations, we may need more than 7 business days to respond.
@hazelbrown @JordanK23 and @Bid855 Thanks for the troubleshooting tried prior to posting. I've created a case on your behalf with our Support team.

Since my firmware upgrade yesterday the battery dies not stay charged, no longer connects to Bluetooth and does not sync. I tried hard resets, rebooting my phone, connecting from a computer. I removed the device from the phone but now can’t add it back because the blue tooth won’t connect. This all started immediately after the firmware upgrade. The device itself is not even a year old. Prior to the firmware upgrade, no problems.

Silvia Fitbit. My ionic is not under warranty any more but the update as caused it to stop working. Do you want to say I'm not entitled to a fix, repair or replacement due directly to action from Fitbit itself?! That sounds completely unfair for one and probably has no legal foundation either. I have logged a support request already and really hope this gets resolved soon.

I have the same issue. I can't believe Fitbit is not owning this one and taking responsibility for the problem THEY have caused. Sylivia and other moderators seem to be avoiding the clear disaster the update has caused.

You are completely correct, there is a clear attempt to avoid any liability for the update that has caused so many devices to malfunction or not work at all!

@JAH33 - A new one. Just the replacement watch, nothing else. "FBN" short for Fitbit New. If you get "FBR" it is short for Fitbit Refurbished.
Hope that helps.

Cross-posting from my bug report from October 2019.
"Well, I guess I have only myself to blame for getting excited that a new Ionic update is out that would surely fix this issue, right? With Fitbit's track record, I should have known better.
I have been more than reasonably patient, seeing how the VERY reason I bought this device was to listen to music without my phone, and it has never worked. I think at this point it's time to give up on Fitbit and move to Samsung Gear."
Additional: The other issue that is still not addressed is powering off the device. It hangs, and does not fully power off. This will run down the battery while you think it's off. It can't be turned on again without holding power+lower-button for 5 seconds (soft reset). This has been reported a zillion times on this forum, and a lot of people think their device is bricked because of this.
It's too bad that I don't really engage in any kind of social media where I could guilt them into giving me a refund, because yes, it really is time to move on.
