ANSWERED

For all my Chats, Challenges & Laughs peeps! Since we can't get on the threads I thought I would start a discussion area for us. We may not be able to keep track of points standings easily but we can still talk.

I miss you!

@ElaineJ27 , you and I must have been writing at the same time since I missed your post.  Sounds like you had a great time for your family gathering.  I laughed at your microwave story.  I'm glad you'll be able to check out the house, too.

Good to hear from you @MargaretG139 .  So many times I wondered why I even took time off from work.  I hope you have been able to shut that side of your brain off (maybe during your walk) and you can truly unwind and relax.  I made my first gingerbread house last year; from scratch.  In my mind's eye, I knew I was going to create a beauty.  In reality, I was so traumatized that I don't know if I'll ever try again.  I hope you can jpeg or something so we can see yours.

Hope to hear from everyone during this holiday season.

Thanks for the birthday wishes!

I didn't hit my goal of 189 but was close enough to be happy with it. I looked back in the logs and I am down either 16 or 17 pounds from last year. Apparently I didn't record it on my birthday and there is a variance of a pound between the two closest dates.

I had Friday and Monday off and found out from a friend at work that we got a nice Christmas bonus from our company this year. This is the first substantial bonus in the 12 years I've been with the company. Because of this we hit the stores to round out the kids (adults) stocking gifts and hubby got two new coats (on sale) one for spring/fall and one for winter. Due to his illness and weight changes he looked like a six year old wearing his father's coat. For my birthday the family chipped in and got me an awesome piece of original artwork that complements a piece I already own, hubby and I went out to a new restaurant and picked up lunch (still not ready to eat in), and we finished decorating our tree. Daughter stopped by for an exchange of Christmas gifts on Saturday. We will be zooming on Christmas day to open them. She also dropped off a half dozen bacon cupcakes in three different flavor combos so one of those was my birthday 'cake'. I ate everything I wanted on my birthday including chips and french onion dip and soda. My next weigh in is not until 12/26 so it shouldn't have that big of an impact.

No new goals set until the beginning of next year but will still try to watch myself over the next two weeks.

@MargaretG139 - What a cute gingerbread house! I can't bake worth a darn so am majorly impressed.

@Katrin  - Praying you get the position that you want. It sounds perfect. Keep us updated.

Merry Christmas to all!

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE

I hope everyone has a lovely time over the festive season albeit different to other years, and that 2021 brings an effective vaccination so we can put this vile virus behind us.  Keep safe and healthy.

I could not access my laptop and don't like typing on the tablet hence no posts from me.  I have been reading all your posts and will write a proper post probably after Christmas.

You all seem very busy getting ready for Christmas.  Our Christmas will be different without Dad, but we have put up the trees and all our Christmas decorations - Dad loved Christmas and would not like us to not celebrate.  We have a big tree in our lounge room and have placed a table (a table my Dad made at wood work) with a large photo of him draped in tinsel and small Christmas ornaments so that he is still part of everything.

I for one am forgetting all about healthy living for the next few days and intend to drink and eat anything I fancy.  After this year I think we all deserve to not worry about the scales and just enjoy.  However, if you have the determination and the will power to not follow my example more power to you and good luck.

And to quote that famous poem “Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”

5 for Monday

4 for Tuesday (Posting, Tracking, Water and Exercise)

Yesterday's exercise point may be stretching it... I did a 20 minute fit-on (WW app) strength workout in the morning and a 5 minute wind-down for bed stretching session in the evening. In between I helped hubby put a bunch of boxes in the attic. He was up there arranging them and I carried them up the drop down stairs I definitly spent more then 10 minutes going up and down the stairs.

@Jan2512I like how you are honoring your father's memory since he enjoyed Christmas so much.

@Cele21I'm so glad to hear you had such a good time celebrating your birthday

I'm sorry if I gave the impression that I baked the gingerbread. We were given a kit and had to assemble the pre-baked pieces. The kit came with a few items to decorate the house along with the "glue" (icing). DD perused pinterest for decorating ideas and we supplemented the candy that came with the kit with the kit kats (roof) pretzels (door), candy canes and mini M&Ms. The picture definitly makes it look bigger than it is - I don't know why... it's not even 8 inches (somewhere between 17 and 18 cm) tall.

Hubby, DD and I went out for our annual tradition of driving around various neighborhoods to look at Christmas lights last night, It didn't seem like as many homes were decorated as in past years nor as elaborately.

I already got a walk in today. The cold really isn't so bad when the sun is out. Of course I had on a beanie and gloves so that helped.

Let's see how long I can keep up the exercise and posting streaks - 3 days for both so far.

Merry Christmas Eve to most and Happy Christmas to Jan!

Like Jan, I have set aside tracking and exercise for a while until Christmas sweets are gone.

@MargaretG139 , I‘ve not seen very many kits made up that beautifully.

Yes, Merry Christmas to all.  I love your honoring of Dad, Jan.  And, whenever you say 'lounge'.  I'm assuming that's the same as a living room or family room here in the States.

So, @Cele21 , you really mean cupcakes that have bacon in them?  Are they sweet or savory or some of both?  Yum.

I am not fasting until the New Year, but still have extended periods until I eat; just not keeping track.  And, I am definitely indulging in the cookies and what nots.  Our realtor brought over a tin of homemade cookies / about 8 different kinds.  Earlier in the day, we spent two hours outside shoveling and snowblowing out of storm Harold's remains.  Luckily we did not receive the 75 mph winds that southern MN did.  Up here, we were getting more in the 30-40 range; which gave us -30 some below with the windchill.  While clearing out, the sun was shining and the winds were under 10; temperature around 0; not sure with windchill.  My step goal is 8,000 which I haven't been getting close to, but today I'll be ending up around 7,600.  Low on water today which I hope I won't pay for.  Will be spending this next week coming up with my 2021 health goals.  I will be starting 2021 heavier than last January by about 5 lbs and 25 lbs heavier than my lightest during 2020.  But, that is the past and I shall not think of it again!!!  Whatever I weigh-in on January 1st is the beginning of my journey.  I shall seize the day!  Until then, let me eat and be merry 🙂

I love your attitude.  I'm going to go eat a few cookies.  I bought the "thin" variety but that just means I eat more of them.  We will begin anew on Jan 1 ...me too

@MargaretG139I agree that that is a beautiful gingerbread house and I particularly love how you made the candy canes into hearts!

So thanks everyone for your support and well wishes but I didn't get the job - they decided to go with someone who has actual senior living experience instead. Then I got all excited about another one for a start-up hotel company in the midscale range but they would require relocation to Charlotte. So alas, no job.

I did however volunteer to outfit a fitting room hangar and as a result, passed my first Fashion 15 at Lane Bryant which earned me a special buy on a sweater - just $15. I got to pick from maybe 30 different special buy choices including jewelry, blouses, etc. but the sweaters were really catching my eye. The one I chose has a wide neck - almost a cowl neck - and is gray with peach stripes. It's long fitting and if I actually owned skinny jeans, jeggings or leggings of some sort it could work nicely as a tunic. It's super soft and comfy. Part of me hates to spend even a penny on clothing but I had a peach and coral sweater that was one of my favorites that I noticed earlier this week was separating at the neck line so I feel okay about replacing a well loved item. I don't think I'll wear it today because I might get hot hostessing for my parents tonight but I think maybe I'll wear it tomorrow with some slimmer stretchy cords or my slimmer jeans.

Meanwhile, I love the work at the store but at $10/hour, I feel like I need to start running now and keep running for fear something will crop up and deplete my reserves before I can get a more professional and better paying position. The ladies are super sweet and I'm learning a LOT. Namely, I'm now officially guilty of wearing the wrong size bra. Also, I think of myself as a pretty boring dresser but I was helping a customer and she asked for some ideas for jeans and tops. I asked her some more questions about her style and the look she was going for and she said "I want to look like you." - WOW.

The other downside is I have long since lost my standing feet. In HS I was in drill team and drum line and I remember standing, carrying a bass drum, for hours during band camp. I also was a waitress and worked retail through college. Then I spent 16 years in event sales and management and stood for long time in heels and pantyhose no less. Now, after a 5 hour shift, I limp into the house, kick off the shoes, and curl into a fetal position on the sofa and shake and moan for about an hour before I can even think about eating something or fixing some water to rehydrate and wash down some more advil - more because I take 2 in the morning before I leave for work. About 4 hours into each shift I start thinking I can't do this, I just can't! But, I don't want to fail at something so simple - then where will I be? I feel like a big baby about too - my boyfriend is still bartending and I just got soft working a professional job. Lots of people stand on their feet for work and this isn't hard manual labor like laying brick or anything. Oh, and also I forgot my fitbit on one day this week and lost all those steps I walked on the concrete floor which really annoyed me.

I just hope my standing feet start to come back! I keep thinking, I love my new cozy sweater but I stood on my feet for an hour and a half to pay for it!

I did end up decorating a tree and wrapping the gifts and getting the cards and the house is mostly ready. My parents are coming between 3 and 4 and then we'll do a zoom gift unwrapping with my sister and then I'll get dinner going. It's all ready in the fridge to heat and serve. We'll have wedge salads, prime rib, mashed potatoes, green beans and I got the mini bundt cakes from Nothing Bundt Cakes (I think they are the Bundtini size) for us to have for dessert. I've got a few hors d's planned and a selection of wines for each course. I also have a little sip for everyone of my boyfriend's homemade Coquito - yum! Then we'll watch a movie - they've seen so few movies it's easy to pick - so I've tentatively selected Cool Runnings. They'll spend the night and I've got Monkey Bread, quiche and fruit salad for tomorrow. Then I'll help them pack up their stuff and will follow them home so I can hook up a new larger monitor I got for my Dad so hopefully he can see his computer a little better. He uses a laptop but has macular degeneration and it's painful to watch him type something and then reach for the magnifier to read what he typed and then put the magnifier down so he can type again.

And then tomorrow night my boyfriend comes and we'll have our Christmas together. And then I go back to work at the store on Sunday!

For each of you, my now long term friends from our group, I wish you all a Merry Christmas (or Happy for Jan) and a lovely holiday weekend filled with peace and joy!

Good to hear from you @Katrin .  Keep hunting; your job will come.  Maybe your new career will entail standing / walking for long stretches and your current job is dress rehearsal.  I still have a hard time standing on my feet for long periods (sometimes it's my back that screams) after working 40 years in office jobs.  By the time standing desks became popular, I had no interest in them.  I can stay on my feet, with proper arch support, for much longer without pain and lately I've been doing my own stair therapy to try and walk up and down stairs like 'normal' people instead of one legged version.  It's amazing how you have to train your muscles to work again.  I am excited for you that you are able to have holiday get togethers for the first time in years.  Your meal sounds elegant.

It feels really weird to not wear my Fitbit but right now, my phone won’t sync any Bluetooth device. I have tried all kinds of troubleshooting actions, including resetting my phone but still cannot sync my Fitbit.

@Katrin , your enthusiasm for your present job is encouraging. I know how quickly the standing ability declines.

I have spent today picking up and putting away and taking care of minor projects and feel pretty good about what I accomplished. I also emptied out a notebook that I previously used as a control journal and purged out of date papers and arranged others to put routines in place to get back on track. I will keep what has worked well for me and tweak others to find the best fit for areas that I’m having trouble with.

3 loads of firewood delivered today.  A nice dinner and movies...and frosted ritz crackers; oh my.  I've repeatedly told hubby I need him out of his sitting area tomorrow so I can give it a good clean.  Plan:  Every day something - some project that needs attention will be given my attention.

Lazy Sunday.  No hubby corner cleaning.  He talked (guilted) me into going outside for a little bit.  Paid some bills.  Contemplated New Years' resolution(s).  Leftovers today.  Hope I at least get the dishes washed up yet tonight.  Tomorrow we have one load of wood to deliver.  May do some snowshoeing to pack down snow so hubby can drive truck back to some wood to cut up.  Not feeling in control of my life.  May be why I'm not doing anything...probably more likely just an excuse.  I haven't been on anti-depressants for six months now.  I don't think I need them now, yet sure do feel negative / lack of desire.  May be I do need to accept my laziness; but, then what?  Ahh, how about create change?  Hmmm, sounds easier said than done.  Any suggestions?

I decided that a VERY lazy long Christmas weekend was in order with no restraints - soda, chips, dip, cookies and candy were all on the menu pretty much every day with lots of couch sitting/reclining/laying. I was afraid to weigh in yesterday but I was down 0.2 lbs! We zoomed with my daughter and her boyfriend for gift opening. I got another framed art print, a leather backpack/purse, a hoodie and a video game I've been interested in. My son got hubby a coffee maker so I will be using that too LOL!

Over the weekend we watched 3 movies and several shows then last night hubby, son and I played video Monopoly. Very relaxing holiday and one I plan on repeating this weekend.

Quite a while back I decided that resolutions don't work for me and have been trying to come up with something that does. The past two years I've been listening to a Christian radio station (K-Love) and they always talk about a word for the year. I would pick one and promptly forget it. Two weeks ago, while not even thinking about it, the word Focus popped into my head and it hasn't left yet. I looked up the definitions and synonyms. I have now created two word clouds to be posted in prominent spots - one for work and one for home. The plan is to work to improve my focus on what I am doing right now. If it's a task at work - no distractions until it is done. If it is my weight - plan my meals and snacks. If it is time management at home - focus on one task to completion before moving on to something else or work 15 minutes on a larger job, no phone, no games, no break. Focus on what I can do to make my life better, happier, healthier. I'm hoping this will stick better this year.

@CJ_Here - Yes, the cupcakes are both sweet and savory. Cupcake dough with bacon pieces cooked in it and sweet maple frosting with bacon pieces on it. Some bakeries have bacon donuts too, one of my favorite flavor combos.

Yes, @Cele21 , last year I came across the 'one word for the year' and had chosen 'clean'.  Then another move came on the horizon and it was quickly forgotten.  Thank you for the reminder.  As I'm working on re-grouping this week, I shall see if a word comes into 'focus' 🙂

Continuing to eat as I please and have been gifted a headache that is either from not enough water or too much sugar.  I ate more sugar to see if that was it ... nope, it didn't go away; just worse ... so, yes, probably too much sugar (a backwards approach, I know).  So, now even though it's late, I'm drinking more water and will probably need to just sleep it off.  I deserve my gift.

I have also been dealing with headaches, probably from both dehydration and sugar. I have significantly increased my water intake and cut out sugar.  Even though I am still suffering from headaches, I do feel better otherwise.

Although I am not committing to intermittent fasting, I am resolving to not eat after 6 pm. I have breakfast about 7 or 8, so that is a fast of about 13 hours.

@Cele21 , I listen to KLOVE when I’m in Rockford at my daughter’s. I can’t quite get it clearly here, but do listen to Christian radio from Peoria and Champaign.

The wind is whipping, the sky was gray all day, and it has turned cold. I am glad that I can hibernate on days like this!

I've been a little sad realizing that the 1st is fast upon us meaning I'll need to get back to the discipline of healthy eating.  Not eating after 6pm is a great plan and then delaying your first meal of the day will probably get you back in sync, @ElaineJ27 .  We've had five wood deliveries already this week.  I'm hoping we don't have any more this week.  Once again, Hubby promises to be out of the house for a while tomorrow so I'm hoping to get some more cleaning done.  I also want to make popcorn balls from our old family recipe.  With intermittent fasting, I'll still be able to eat whatever; however, starting right off this time, I'm going to 'focus' (thinking of you @Cele21 ) on portion control.  I still haven't taken the time to choose my 2021 word...think I'll work on that now 🙂
