One Availability and Alternatives

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Though Fitbit One is a popular product, as we introduce new products, we occasionally make changes to our product line to keep you on track with the most up-to-date health and fitness tracking tools.

As a result, we no longer sell the One. We recommend considering the other discreet options we offer- Fitbit Zip, if you prefer a clip-based tracker or Fitbit Flex 2 if you prefer a slim, wrist-based tracker. Or, take our quiz on http://www.fitbit.com/compare to see which device meets your needs best.

Please note that we will continue to support the One and, if necessary, provide replacements for devices in warranty.

We do know there are many fans of the One who would like to discuss alternatives and have created this thread for discussion and merged a few posts together. Please keep in mind Community Guidelines when posting.

At this time, feedback has been shared on the One status and there are no plans to bring this particular tracker back at this time, we will not be able to comment further.

We apologize for any inconvenience and hope we can continue to provide you with Fitbit trackers you love and help you reach your goals.

Chortle chortle--most likely slim to none chance of that.  🙂  When I know we're going to get higher than normal (which is about 20mph) winds-Everything is secured in the barns or house.

Every tree, shrub, telephone and electrical pole leans East from the wind-unfortunately not a great place for fragile flowers......equine, human, or botanical.

Well it appears as though my One has bitten the dust.  I was trying to reset it as it was not syncing (this has always worked in the past) but after turning it off while on the charger, I am unable to turn it back on.  I do not want a wrist tracker as I already have a GPS watch for tracking my runs.  I want a discreet step and stair tracker for my day to day use.  In fact I was considering getting one of the fitbit products that have a stand alone GPS to use and use the One when the watch is innapropiate.   If I am unable to restart my One, it will be good bye fitbit.  I have several years of fitbit use but at least this will be one less app/website to update--maybe I can put my time to something productive.

Hello Momtallica,

Did you try contacting the Chat help?

They said they would continue to support the One so hopefully they will be able to help.

Maybe I'll have to throw mine out onto the street, LOL

I've left it on the charger overnight, hopefully it come back to life.  I suspect it is the button that isn't working.

I will try after ensuring it is charged up fully etc.  I have had this for a number of years so definitely not under warranty anymore.

In all the research I've done over the past several months ALL WRIST TRACKERS RELY ON ARM MOVEMENTS to count steps.  Even the instructions in the packages note Must Swing Arms.  I sincerely hope someone comes up with a better model OR GIVE US BACK THE ONE.  I WON'T WEAR ANYTHING ON MY WRIST.

I have not found that to be true, at least for the Alta.  I wear it on a clip on my pocket, or sometimes, just loose in my pocket, and it counts steps just fine, and seems to be accurate.  I can even hold it in my hand while walking, and see steps counting up.

But, if I'm pushing a shopping cart, and I have it on my wrist (which I've done for testing purposes, because I won't wear anything on my wrist otherwise), it doesn't record any steps at all.

Exactly my point. Sure, I could put a watch in my pocket and it will be accurate. But why pays hundreds of dollar for the extra functionally of a watch when it's in my pocket.  All I want is a activity monitor that keeps me moving throughout the day. I don't want watch or anything else on my wrist. Bring back the One or an equivalent!

When this happened to mine a couple of weeks ago I smacked it on the table in frustration and it started working! Worth a try?

The Fitbit Alta (non-HR) is actually the same price point as the One (I see it sold for $99 regularly) and even the Charge2 has been on sale for $120 ... so those almost-equivalent wrist versions aren't $100s more. Unfortunately, there isn't a clip (other than etsy/homemade versions) for it being made for the Charge by Fitbit or 3rd parties. There is for the Alta.

I'm a One wearer, but have had a Charge2 that I wear on my wrist (I wanted the HR feature enough to do so - better than a chest strap!). As many have mentioned, it does come in lower on the step count almost always, even for individual exercise activities (running, walking, elliptical, zumba) -- all things I am using my arms for!

My son has an Alta that he hasn't been wearing, so I've been experimenting wearing it. While wearing it in a clip, it's generally been a bit over the One steps. Sometimes the "auto" recognition of exercise doesn't seem as accurate as the one day I wore it on my wrist (steps dropped that day with that placement - but it recognized elliptical instead of calling it walking).

Just for fun ... and because I'm a data geek, I bought a Garmin Vivofit 3 and a clip, as it was brought up as a One alternative. My experience with it hasn't been great though, many frustrations. Step count generally a bit under the One, estimated calorie burn WAY under (except for running, it seems to only reward you for running, any other exercise, walking/elliptical/zumba the calorie burn estimates are SO low). Only total steps for the day (can't see them for individual workouts, just "miles" and that only comes across sometimes), active minutes shown for the week only (not per workout/day, which I like to track). A backlit display is NOT the same thing as an illuminated display.

If someone makes a clip-option for the Charge2, while it's a bit more $$ than the One (just $20 though), it does have all the features, including stairs. The HR function goes to waste in a clip, and that's a shame (I love the HR feedback). Ironically, the Charge2 and the GarminVivofit3 are almost the same size, and I just tried the Charge2 in the aftermarket Garmin clip ... and it worked quite well. If you can live without stairs, then the Alta IS the same price as the One, the same size, and can be used the same for most things (no timer, but it does auto-recognize, and/or you can always input an activity if you want specific stats on a workout).

I've been collecting data for days now (total steps for the day, steps for individual workouts, burn estimates, active minutes) across all my devices and plan on doing a blog post to showcase the results.

ScrapJenB,

When you use the Garmin vivofit 3 clip with the Charge 2, does it count floors?  Can you see the full screen—or at least enough of it? How easy is it to insert/remove for charging?
Best Answer

@SueAlan I really haven't played around much with the Charge2 in the clip. I had glanced at it and noticed it was very similar in size to the Garmin, so just tried fitting it in for the first time this morning. The Charge2 in a clip hasn't been part of my tracker experiments. I'm not sure I could go without it on my wrist at this point even just to try for a day, I need my HR feedback 😉 Ironically when I first got it (the original ChargeHR a couple years ago) Hubs was certain I wouldn't adapt to it on my wrist, but I did.

I'm certain the stair counting wouldn't be impacted at all by wearing the Charge2 in a clip vs on the wrist (my floors count for my One/Charge2 have usually been pretty similar).  As for getting it in and out of the clip ... it IS a bit of a bear (with the Alta also, doesn't slip in and out as easily as the One does from it's clip). That is a benefit of the wrist strap, you can just unhook it from your arm and stick it on the charger easily. The Garmin clip opening showcases pretty much the entire Charge2 screen. It was easy to see everything still. I was a bit worried, as the Charge2 has a button on the side. I couldn't see the button, but could easily feel it and press it through the silcone cover.

The Garmin clip set had three clips for $8 I think. I'll have to see if I can live without heart rate feedback for a day and experiment with the Charge2 in the clip to see how it holds up. 😉

This morning, after sitting on the charger overnight, had a display with a bunch of weird screens and messages, then it started switching between steps and the timer every few seconds an showing yesterdays steps.  I put it back on the charger and went to work.  This evening it seems to be working, we shall see.  Perhaps it was some sort of update although I haven't had any messages to update.  Hopefully it will keep working.  The One is such a unique product and so useful either on it's own or in conjunction with other types of trackers.  I do hope that Fitbit will bring it back, or something similar.
