Charge 2- text notification is blank

Recently my charge 2 has stopped displaying my text messages.  I will get a vibration notification, the message will pop up with the contact name who sent it, but there is no message displayed.  This usually happens when someone sends an emoji, but now it is happening all the time.  I have tried the following- resynching my charge 2 to my phone app, making sure all of my permissions and notifications are active.  In looking through some past posts, it seems when this happens people are not even getting the contact name in the message.

I am at a loss, what can I try next?

I am using a Pixel 3 phone.

My fitbit no longer provides notification when someone is calling my mobile or displaying text messages.

Mine spontaneously worked correctly this morning after an update.

Yep. Just regular update, and boom my texts with message content started
