Do magnetic bands interfere with Fitbit?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

So I am trying to upgrade the look of a fitbit to blend in with my wardrobe more but the replacement bands have magnets and I am wondering if they will interfere with the fitbit technology?? Has anyone heard of anything or had good/bad experiences with magnets near their fitbit?

I included a link to the fitbit band I'm looking at if that helps! Thanks to anyone who has helpful info!

Love the look and feel of the mesh silver magnetic closure bands.  But yes…i have noticed “water lock” keeps prompting me to lock or unlock…time doesn’t appear as usual when i flip my wrist up to see what time it is, i need to give it the two finger pinch prompt.  So yes, i think the magnet is causing a change.  But i hope it isn’t harming the fitbit inspire 2….it just looks and feels so much better than the slimy plastic band it came with, and is way easier to put on/take off.

I have noticed several changes in function….but, do they cause permanent damage?  No one seems to have the answer.

It makes my “water lock”. Twitchy…and flipping wrist up no longer activates time data.

I have seen many posts from people having problems with their magnetic bans.
I for one, have never had any problems whatsoever in the past 10 year.
Maybe it has to do with the quality of the band. I honestly don't know.

When I first put on a magnetic band, I thought it might have changed some of my settings. All I did was put on the new band but later I realized that I had pressed the side buttons multiple times while clipping in on. That was the reason for the altered settings, not the magnet. I was disappointed with the finish on the mag band only lasting a few months before it started wearing off and not looking as nice. I now use a blue silicon type with a stainless-steel buckle. They last much longer and look pretty nice.

I know this is a very old thread, but the original band on every Fitbit I have had has badly affected my skin.   The Sense watch I bought last year was no different.  Ever since I bought a magnetic band, I get ridiculous readings for my heart rate, but my skin is doing fine.  Reasonably accurate heart rate readings are medically important for me.  It is all very well to say a magnet can’t affect it, can’t affect light, etc.  And obviously not everyone has this problem.  But far too many do have it for it not to be real.

I never had any pulse inaccuracy when I used the mag bands. I've gone back to the silicone rubber type. They last about 6 months before they crack at the buckle area. I used to get skin rashes when working in the yard in the heat and dirt. Turned out to be a fungus like athlete's foot. I cured that with antifungal cream and washing the band with soap and water every few days. Not a problem in winter when I'm not sweating and it's cooler. I like the pulse feature and mine seems to work well. Maybe try different material and texture bands. Good luck.

Hi Rosebud.  Thank you.  I washed my silicone bands every day, but I still got bad rashes from sweat.  I am not 100% sure that it is the magnetic band causing the weird heart rate count at times, but I will take your advice.  I’m going to try different types of bands and see what happens.  All the best😊
