Fitbit Charge 3 frozen

Hello, today, my Fitbit Charge 3, which was perfectly running for a week, was frozen. Restart first didn‘t work. Black screen, nothing happened. It did not show the charging symbol. Then I connected it to my MacBook. Suddenly it woke up. So what will happen when I don‘t have a MacBook to wake up my Chaarge 3?

By the way, this happened 1 day after I installed the new firmware. A bug?

As I wrote in my posting, it wasn‘t so easy. For the first time, the reset did not work. And will you always carry your charger with you when you are outside???

For you there may have been something else wrong, but this person above who just asked what the fix was, I wrote what I did, as advised by Fitbit and it worked first time. Maybe it won’t work for the next time. If you don’t have your charger just wait till you get home like I did two days ago, as written above.

Have charge 3 since release day. Tracking well but temporarily freezing with message notifications. This morning it has permanently frozen. Have tried connecting to charging cradle. Holding button down or syncing with phone app doesn’t help either. Green light permanently flickering underneath. Don’t know what to do next.

Tried cradle again & holding button at same time. Took longer than 8 seconds but eventually smiley face appeared & then clock face. It’s charging now so hopefully back on track. Might turn text messages off & see how it behaves although it is handy at times.

Thank you for your step on how to de-freez the charge 3 Fitbit. I had the same issue where it was working just fine then one day the screen froze.

That’s good. Mine going ok again now.

I had a message notification appear on the display, which I could 'scroll' however any amount of tapping 'clear' would not clear the notification, and I was unable to escape the notification panel.

I tried hard-resetting (via plugging in, and holding the button for 8+ seconds), but that was unresponsive.

What worked for me, was opening the app on my phone, heading to clock faces, and switching to another one. This 'forced' the display on the watch to update / go back to the main clock face. Problem solved.

Thanks good to know for if this happens again as I only keep the charging cable at home.

Welcome on board @SunsetRunner! Sorry to hear that the display on your Charge 3 has frozen. In order to sort this out, I'd recommend restarting your tracker by following these steps:

  1. Plug the charging cable into the USB port on your computer or any UL-certified USB wall charger.
  2. Clip the other end of the charging cable to the port on the back of the tracker. The pins on the charging cable must lock securely with the port.
  3. Make sure the button on your tracker is aligned with the button opening on the charging cable. You’ll know the connection is secure when the tracker vibrates and you see a battery icon on your tracker’s display.
  4. Press and hold the button on your tracker for 8 seconds. When you see a smile icon and the tracker vibrates, the tracker restarted.
  5. Unplug your tracker from the charging cable.

Give this a shot and let me know the outcome!

My fit bit stopped displaying after kust 4 weeks.  I took this advice and held the reset button while on the charger and it worked!  Crazy these devices aren't more reliable.

I am having the exact same issue and nothing that has been mentioned is helping whatsoever. Please let me know if you successfully resolve the issue.

I had/have mine for three weeks also and it’s frozen dead not working green lights not flashing nothing....for the whole three weeks I’ve had nothing but problems with it. I loved my charge 2, I think I hate this 3 only reason I bought it was the water thing and I still haven’t got to get it in the water

Hi sorry to hear that. Just happened the one time to me & holding button while in the charger sorted it. Took longer than holding for 8 seconds though. My screen would also temporarily freeze after viewing messages but since the last update that seems to have stopped so hopefully that sorted things.

I complained about this on Twitter & Fitbit seemed surprised this was happening! They then referred it & I got a message to confirm to them what’s happening. They are now sending me a new one! Not sure that’s the answer but maybe worth going down that route?

I got my charge 3 right after it was released and today was the first day I have had problems with it freezing. It was still tracking steps, but I could not swipe away from the main watch face to track exercise, see notifications or any other apps. I was able to connect it to my charger and press the button (prob 10 seconds) to reset it and now seems to be working fine.

Previously, it has had issues with notifications. Since the firmware update, I don't get alerted of incoming calls. And I only get messages from messenger, normal text messages stopped coming through? Anyone else have this issue? They are turned on in the app.

Why does the charge 3 stop working and freezes on blank screen mid run. This is the third time. Ran a half marathon today, and my Fitbit (in ample charge) must have stopped after just a couple miles. 13+ miles later plus a mile walk, it had only 7300 steps (in place of an expected 25K). Didn’t come on even, till back on charger cradle, which immediately woke it up and showed 72% battery.
