Nothing but a black screen on Charge 2

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

It worked fine last night, but when I woke up this morning it was a black screen. I  bought this from you in December 2016, and don't have the paperwork anymore.  Is there anything I can do to fix it?

If the screen is not responding at all, even after trying to restart the tracker, @Mary1967, you may need to contact Fitbit Support so they can look into your case further.

You can reach them HERE

Hope that helps~

@Mary1967 Thanks for joining us! Like @Kmransom123 said a restart is your best option here. To restart your tracker please do the following:

Plug the charging cable to your computer or UL certified wall adapter.
Align the contacts of the tracker with the charging cable and plug it in making sure it snaps securely.
Your tracker should start charging.
Press the button for 10 to 12 seconds.
You should see your tracker's firmware version and you can now unplug your tracker.

Also make sure that it is charging by cleaning the contacts with a toothpick or toothbrush and then use cotton with rubbing alcohol.

Let me know how it goes!

@Mary1967  Happy to hear that your tracker is now working. Please let me know if something else arises as your tracker shouldn't present that many difficulties but hopefully everything will be fine now.

I did just this, cleaned my charge 2, plugged it in, and held in the button, but once it reached the 10-12 second mark, the only thing that happened was I felt my Fitbit vibrate. I tried this a few times and had the same results. I noticed a few hours ago that my Fitbit seemed to be acting up, not lighting the screen when I turned my wrist or even tapped the screen, unless I did it a few times. Then it began working fine again. I just went to take a shower, and every time I do so, I always plug it in to charge. When I unclipped it, the screen did not light, nor has it since (about 30 minutes now). Please help!

Hi, @AlvaroFitbit Sadly, my conversation with Fitbit support over the phone was unsuccessful. I was told that since the restart didn’t work, it appears my Charge 2 is broken, and I would need to purchase a new tracker. I’m quite frustrated right now, especially because I wasn’t provided a reason as to why this happened, and it was only after I asked if this is common that I received what appeared to me to be a generic and not truthful no. I understand that things break, but I don’t want to spend my money on a brand new Fitbit tracker for this to happen again. I know there’s a Charge 3 being released in October, but I’m now considering the possibility of getting an Apple tracker, due to the fact all my other devices are Apple.

@pinklibrarylady thank you for your reply. Support follow the guidelines in the warranty so they won't be able to replace a device if it is outside the warranty period. Still they usually offer some other options if they can. Regardless of the tracker you use I hope you can continue your daily fitness routine so you can reach your fitness goals.

I am experiencing and share the same frustration.  All the same same as you.  I first had and flex and it died to now me the charge 2 going black and still track.  I told fit bit too I am going to look at apple and they did not seem to care even though I have been a loyal customer for 5 years

@Doreen22 It's great to see that you've visited the Fitbit Community! Sorry to hear that your tracker isn't working. Try cleaning the contacts then charge it by plugging it for a couple of hours directly to your computer's usb port (try different ports) or use an UL listed usb wall adapter. After this restart your device.

Mine is doing the exact same thing, and it happened around the same time as yours did. I wonder if it was an update? I can't get mine to start up again, and I really can't afford to get a new one.  The screen is black but the back side is green like it's working, and no screen.  Not sure what else to do. I'm also past warranty apparently. So bummed out.  I always watched my heartrate on my Fitbit after having a heart attack last year, and I use it to keep my goals right while I'm working out.

@musique913 despite my screen giving out last month, since the rest was still working and tracking, I kept wearing it and looked at my results on the app on my phone. That’s still annoying, especially not seeing the time with the turn of my wrist, but I was happy with the tracking. However, just last week my Fitbit stopped tracked my heart rate, too. So I no longer have the sleep stages stats or my HR throughout the day. It’s rapidly completely falling apart. The lights on the back still light, but it’s clear to me that these Fitbit products are not made to last long.

I had been thinking of buying the new one, but I tend to agree. Things are not designed to last as much as they used to be.  I've had a bunch of different Fitbit products too!

I feel like this is another verizon phone that expires before two years are up. I will save up and go to apple that lasts longer.  Good luck.  I am using my own judgement for the time being and wearing a watch, lol.

I did try your solution, but it did not work so I guess I am done with fit bit and using my watch for time and saving money for apple.

Same thing happened to me and customer service was awful.  I'm trying to find out how to do a hard reset.  Trying to find someone with another charge cable to see if that works but the man said it sounded defective but he couldn't do anything because I was 2 months out of warranty!!!  This is my 2nd device that has acted up after a year.  Not wasting money on a company that doesn't care!!!!!
