Fitbit Update: 1/9/2020

Hey, Versa Smartwatches family!

I hope everyone is enjoying the start of the New Year. Before the holidays, we released this firmware out to 100%.

If you still don't see the update for Fitbit OS 4.1 (70.7.14) because it's brand new or perhaps was gifted to you for Christmas, please continue syncing the watch and make sure you have all-day sync turned on. You will soon after see the banner prompting you to update to this firmware.

Thanks for your patience and hope you continue enjoying this update!

Fitbit Update: 12/5

Hi, Versa Smartwatches family!

We’re excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 4.1 (Firmware Version: 70.7.14).

We've begun releasing this new firmware to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.

WHAT’S NEW AND FIXED

The update includes a variety of new features and enhancements, including:

    • Smart wake: Smart wake will gently begin to wake you with subtle vibrations during the optimal part of your sleep cycle (during light or REM) within a 30 minute window prior to your pre-set alarm. This allows you to wake up feeling refreshed.

    • Clock face switcher: You will now be able to store up to five clock faces right on your device and quickly change from one to the other using the new clock face switcher.

    • On-wrist Sleep Score: The score will now be available in the on-device dashboard that can be accessed by swiping up from the clock face. You can still see it alongside your sleep data within the Fitbit app after you sync.

    • Exercise app improvements: The redesigned Exercise app will now display all 20 workouts in a new streamlined list on your wrist.

    • Battery notification: When your battery is running low, a new feature will automatically disable notification vibrations and if on, the always-on display on Versa 2 to preserve your battery life.

    • Agenda app: A new Agenda app allows you to see your calendar right on your wrist.

For more information on the new features included in Fitbit OS 4.1 check out this article. You can also check out our press release

HOW DO I UPDATE?

Step by step instructions for updating your Versa/Versa 2 can be found here

To update Versa Lite Edition, leave on all-day sync and let the Fitbit app run in the background on your phone. When the update is ready, you’ll see a notification in the Fitbit app.

If you run into any trouble updating your Versa, Versa 2 or Versa Lite, I recommend reviewing these troubleshooting tips. If you have any issues after completing the update, when in doubt, try a restart on the watch.

How to restart your watch:

  1. For Fitbit Versa, press and hold the back and bottom buttons until you see the Fitbit logo on the screen. For Fitbit Versa Lite/Fitbit Versa 2, hold the back(left) button for 10 seconds.
  2. Let go of the buttons.

We appreciate your patience while we work to roll this out to everyone.

This happened to my Versa 2 during the beta for this firmware release.  The beta team straight up never responded to either of the two bug reports I made well over a week before the official release.  I tried multiple factory resets to no avail and ended up contacting the regular support chat team to make a warranty claim.  Not surprised this is happening to other people. This replacement device is the LAST chance I'm giving Fitbit.  After that, I'm demanding a refund and switching to another company. I've had three Charge 3s brick on me inside a month and now one Versa 2.  I originally wasn't mad about it because I signed up for possible issues when I agreed to do the beta test, but after the team ignored me and released 4.1 with the same issues I reported having just a couple of weeks after the beta version broke my device... Yeah. I'm annoyed.

Edit: this is in regards to the random restart issue folks have been complaining about.

Fitbit has no interest in fixing this update, only selling you a new device
at a phony discount.

Not for me, still waiting 😉

But the full rollout for 4.0.2 took about a month, so we have time.

Well, read this entire thread and think twice if your device is out of warranty.

Father Ray, do you actually get color on the agenda app, because I do not. Maybe on Android, but not on iOS. Mine are various forms of gray.

Judging by the number of negative responses to this firmware release there are gremlins at work.  I updated my Versa last week and shows firmware version 32.70.714 (so maybe this release note mistyped the release number)?   Regardless, I've been having issues synching my Versa with my Android phone (Pixel 3 running Android 10 with Dec 5 Security Update).   Additionally I've had problems with watchfaces....even watchfaces by Fitbit.  They continuously  show trying to be installed even though the watch face updates.  I'm not sure they are installing correctly as the Business (by Fitbit) on my watch shows up on the watch face but doesn't show the battery indicator like it should and the Phone App shows the watchface still installing after 12+ hours.

I've done all the normal troubleshooting with tech support at Fitbit (they are good and do try to understand the issue rather than going down a checklist). I even resorted to doing a factory reset which included reinstalling the firmware update and still have issues.  I do think there is a huge bug in the firmware update which is causing issues for many.  [I also greatly appreciate the magnitude of the challenge in rolling out firmware updates given the many types phones, carriers and software versions out there for the Fitbit app to interact with and then translate to the actual Fitbit device]

Either the firmware release is messed up or none of us understand their numbering system.  🤔

Exact same thing. It did work before the update. Weight is about the same as well. Doesn't add correctly in the app.

@Neptune80 look closer at the version info on your watch and phone.  If you don't look closely it's hard to see the . between the 7 and the 14.  At least on my OG Versa it is.

I should get the update between the 7 and the 14

As I said, their version numbering system doesn't really make sense.  You would think they would announce it as 32.70.7.14 vice just saying 70.7.14 and when they preference by OS 4.1 you would think it would be 4.1.70.7.14.  I get your point but still very confusing in the numbering systems they are referring to in the release notice.

The point still remains, there appears to be a bug in the firmware for many based upon all the issues in the reply to this release note.

I've spent days troubleshooting with the team and they offered me a 25% discount on a new device if I want to get a new device (even though the Versa 2 is 35% off....and the sales team won't combine discounts).  Go figure.....

Hi,  I have just updated to 4.1 on my Versa 2 and I cannot switch clocks, when I try it gets stuck on switching and when I try to load another one it states it is still trying to load a clock face and to wait.  I have done a soft and hard reset, uninstalled my app and after reinstalling it still thinks it is switching clocks.  Has anyone else had this issue or can recommend a fix.  Thank you

Hi

I am a new Fitbit user. I just bought Versa 2 on 12/8/19  and the firmware update (4.1) was released on 12/5/19. Mine, still on 68.9.15 and didn't get offering an update to newest. After reading this thread from page 1 until this reply, there is so many negative experiences on many devices. I just feel worried about this, should I update my device to the latest firmware? It's better to just wait and see.
