Versa stopped tracking sleep

[update: this seems to have fixed itself, so not sure what was going on the last few days]

Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me understand why my Versa has suddenly stopped tracking sleep. The last time it worked was Thursday. I noticed that the heart rate monitor has stopped working too, but after I turned it off and on the heart rate started working again but sleep is still no longer working. Is this a software issue? Will it be fixed in a new up date? Is this related to new watch faces and app updates failing work? Any advice in what direction to go would be great received. It’s still under warranty from where I purchased it but would prefer for this resolve this myself.

Thank you.

Problem solved! After restarting my tracker, reinstalling the app and making sure that my heart rate tracking was enabled, the sleep tracking started working again. Now to get notifications working again.

I have the same phone and no amount of reinstalling the app or restarting the Versa made any difference. This issue started just three days ago and I suspect a bad software fix either to the app or the backend systems are the root cause.

Since sleep monitoring is a major reason I have used Fitbit over the years, it may be time to move to a different device.

Your device will start recording sleep after it detects an hour of inactivity. If you have a light sleep or move too much then this may difficult your sleep detection. Additionally you can try wearing your device on your non dominant hand to decrease the amount of movement it is subjected to. Finally you can restart your device. You can also manually log your sleep time.

If you are getting sleep logs but only the simplified ones then please be aware that you may not get sleep stages for the following reasons:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your device from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results, wear your device higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). The band should feel secure but not too tight.
  • If you used the Begin Sleep Now option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your device to bed). For more information on automatic sleep tracking, see How do I track my sleep?
  • If you slept for less than 3 hours.
  • If your device’s battery is critically low.

@allanseabrook happy to hear that your issue was resolved after restarting your Versa.

Let me know how it goes!

@Holleydc56 Welcome to the Fitbit Community! It's great to have you here!

I will gladly assist you and sorry for the late reply. Also thank you for doing a Factory Reset. I would like ot know if the Versa isn't recording any sleep at all or only not tracking the sleep stages? If it is the latter have you tried the instructions in my previous post? Could you share a screenshot of your sleep logs?

I look forward to your reply.

I have never had so many problems with an electronic device of any sort as I have had with this fitbit versa. It tracks when it wants to track (a mind of its own) and the screen was scratched terribly bad within the first couple hours of me owning it by simply my arm hitting the threshold of a doorway. The screen is extremely fragile, will go days without tracking sleep then suddenly track sleep, doesnt properly track steps (not even remotely close), and notifications are sometimes not sent through even though notifications are on. SO basically if my phone is next to me, sometimes i will get the notification on my fitbit and other times i wont. Will never purchase another Fitbit product again. All these people on this board are delusional with counting their steps using the fitbit tracker. your "10,000" steps are really more like 5,000.

I must admit that often it tells me I need to do a few more steps to reach my 250 per hour and I only get out of my seat and it says I have completed them. I think you may well be right about step counting. It seems to count any movement of the arm as a step. Also, I found a deep scratch on my screen and I am very careful with things. It does mark very easily.

I have the same issue. I realized that I turned off cellular data on my phone and my Versa stopped picking up sleep and HR. Having read your posts, I just turned cellular data back on, so fingers crossed. HR is back, let’s see if sleep will track again.

I have restarted my phone, rebooted the FitBit Versa, checked the online dashboard, and it's not telling me my sleep last night. I'm not sure why. It's tracking steps (or more accurately, arm movements), heart rate, and I know I slept well last night, but I can't remember when I fell asleep to add a manual log. Any other ideas?

Go to your phone settings-cellular-cellular data-fitbit make sure that the
cellular data for fitbit is flipped on.
I have an apple phone so this is what I did, not sure how to get to
cellular data on an adroid. Hope this helps.

It's on. It recorded my data last night, but still didn't update the previous night. It's missing. My heart rate tracker must be the issue - shows the last bpm at 9:40 pm Tues night and the first registered at 11:00 am Wed morning. I have no idea why or what happened. It was charged, in position...I have no idea. *shrug*

Hi there. ..  I am brand new to Fitbit and this is my very first one the Versa Lite. .  I struggled to get the Sleep working but am only 2 days into it...  Day 1 the Fitbit did nothing,  when I checked the forums I noticed that I did not have the Sleep option on the Fitbit so I rebooted the Fitbit and the Sleep option popped up ready to go... So last night I tried again . ..  However I was awoken at 1 am and when I checked my Fitbit it had not recorded anything so I started the "Sleep Now" option on my phone and went back to sleep..  I woke this morning and told the app I was awake and when I checked everything it looks like nothing was recorded...  Just out of usual IT interest and the standard response "Have you rebooted Sir?" I rebooted my phone (Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017)) and up popped all the Sleep data..  So keeping fingers crossed Day 3 the Fitbit will notice I am asleep so I don't have to manually tell it.  Thanks for the posts as it has been helpful to me

Same story for my Versa. No heartrate, no sleep, underside light not working. Based on what I learned here I went into the settings on the watch, turned off the heart rate option, restarted the watch and sync’d it, then turned the heart rate option back on. Immediately the underside light came on and it tracked my heart rate once worn. Thank you all!

My Versa stopped tracking heart rate and sleep. I’ve tried restarting 3 times, no change. What else can I do?
