@Rich_Laue You've missed the point yet you've managed to prove it at the same time. My statistic was a silly one, just like yours. When stats like ours are based on inaccurate or incomplete variables, they are pointless at best; at worst, they can mislead people.
This is my last reply on the subject. Let's please just get this thread back on its original track.
You're right... I did leave that out. Why? Because it should be IRRELEVANT! Google Play! Apple App Store! Microsoft App Store! They all support multiple devices. As near as I can tell, since they began! I've even read that Pebble allowed multiple devices (I could be wrong - read about it in a post by a user). So the App Gallery being limited to one device is at best an indication of the incompetence of the Fitbit management and at worst, an indication of the incompetence of the FitBit programmers.
Further, I reiterate, their current ADULT line no longer offers the ability to use more than one device! Yes, you can get an older device... but not direct from Fitbit's own web site, at least when you list the products!
I think everyone on here is right and also slightly wrong at the same time.
Please note I don't work for Fitbit and I have as much knowledge about their inner workings as the rest of you, but I do understand electronics, software, apps and running a business, so here goes.
Fitbit do actively monitor these posts and they do know that a number of people are complaining. The fact that there doesn't appear to be any progress after a year suggests a number of things to me:
- Yes there have been a lot of complaints with many folk saying they will send their Fitbit back, that could be as many as 500 customers Fitbit will loose.
- Yes it is a pain, I have an Ionic and got a Versa at pre-launch.
- How many customers do you think Fitbit has 1m, 2m, I think I saw a figure of about 4m, but even on the lower figure 500 customers is 0.05%, quite small.
- How many new customers do Fitbit need to add each year to keep pace with competition/pay shareholders? Probably 10% of their customer base, so say 100,000.
- Will they do that by fixing a problem only 0.05% complain about or will they do that by launching a new tracker or new functions? I will save you having to answer, it is the new product/functions.
- I have no idea how easy/difficult it is to fix the problem with multiple trackers, I would like to have my Ionic and Versa on the same account and I would have bought a Charge 3 had that worked (I got one of the last Charge 2 when my Charge HR started failing).
- Would I send my Fitbits back because of this issue? No. By the Way, I have an older Garmin and Apple watch, but for tracking exercise, still prefer my Fitbit (Ionic and Charge 2, I don't use the Versa much).
- If it was an easy fix, I think they would have done it by now. But they haven't, which suggest that it isn't an easy fix and their resources are been deployed elsewhere.
I am not holding my breath for a fix, it will be nice if and when it comes along, so just vote for the feature. All the people who say they are sending their Fitbit back and buying the competition, Fitbit have lost them already so their rant doesn't make any difference.
You are right, it is not an easy fix @LeeW1 but as mentioned above requires a major rewrite of the way the Fitbit server handles the management of devices running Fitbit os .
The other bit of analysis you left out is how many extra trackers Fitbit could sell if customers could actually use two at the same time. Easiest sale is to a (satisfied) existing customer.
My guess would be that the majority of customers only buy one tracker, or those that do start out with a simple tracker and then upgrade, don't use the old one anymore. But this is just a guess.
It's also important to remember that we are a vocal minority. And i don't mean most people don't have a problem. I mean that, according to one statistic (apparently from salesforce) 1 out of 26 people with a problem actually complains to the company. If there are 300 unique individuals in this thread then one can presume about closer to 8000 are having the issue. And more will every day.
It's also frustrating because, in my opinion, based on what I've been able to find and read, FitBit has not adequately informed their customers what's going on with this. "Under consideration" is vague. To me its like saying "we're not sure... We'll think about it" i use many software products with upvote feature request systems like this only they are more definitive about whether they will include something and when.
Put simply, this is poor customer service. Rest assured this is not my only gripe with fitbit but it's the one I'm most passionate about this month. Loyal customers are loyal... Until they are not. I'm not there yet but the silence and apparent ignorance on the part of the company is deafening and continues pushing me away from loyalty toward the cliff of abandonment.
I respectfully disagree. The goal of every competitive business is to steal market share from the competition as well as prevent their base from migrating.
They are now moving away from the "fitness" devices looking to compete with Apple with smart watches. The Versa, Versa Lite and Versa 2 are important parts of that strategy. The complaint is valid. The number of FitBit users, using those products is much less than 4 million. Should the word get out that this restriction exists, I suspect it would seriously affect their marketing effort. I know it would have affected mine.
I am keeping my Versa, however will not buy any of the other versions until this is fixed. I am a new FitBit users, one of the ones they are looking to bring on board. They have good looking, functional hardware bits and I would love to have 2 or 3. It is a shame I am limited to one. Imagine if they brought on board 500,000 new Versa users and half bought two or three versions. Thats a lot of new revenue they will not get with the current configuration.
Much to my disappointment I learned that I cannot have both the Versa and the Charge 3 active at once on my app. This was nowhere mentioned in the advertising for the Charge 3 or I would not have purchased the device. Is this going to be sorted out soon? I am debating whether to keep the Charge 3 now, despite having looked forward to having it since the look is sleeker than the Versa.
I have been using Fitbit when it was just the first generation belt clip on. Since then I've owned just about every generation of Fitbit devices. Currently I've been using both a Versa and a Charge 2. I like having the flexibility of using both for specific functions. I bought the Charge 3 hoping to upgrade my Charge 2 and finally get waterproof capabilities but was extremely dismayed at the discovery that I'm not able to use both my Versa and the Charge 3 on the same account. I'm going to have to return the Charge 3 instead and keep the Charge 2 for the time being until this issue is resolved. I hope Fitbit can understand why users would like to be able to use any and all devices on one account and remove this restriction in the near future.
Same boat... Isn't ironic that fitbit states they allow multiple devices per account, however they are only producing devices that cannot be used together? They say to un-pair and re-pair the devices to use multiple per account... This takes forever! Just overall bad business.
Agreed! I was also very put out that there was nothing in the description of the Charge 3 that indicated this restriction. I also really enjoy my Versa and was planning to switch between them. Please fix this, Fitbit!
On what planet is restricting the number of devices to one per account good business or good user experience. Switching back and forth between devices is not a 10 second job and should not be necessary. We shouldn’t have to vote this up, it should never have been allowed to get to this situation. I’ve only just found this limitation with Charge3 and Ionic. What a functional disappointment and clearly shows a lack of user experience testing and real world use cases.
I am sorry if his has been posted already but I did not have the patience to search and read through posts as I just got back from returning my new Versa and off a chat session with Fitbit support.
How can you not be able to use two trackers on one account?????? Who can wear a larger tracker (Versa or Ionic) 24/7 or to sleep? Why is there a sleep tracking stat if I do not wear a watch type tracker to bed? Why would it not make more sense Fitbit to sell me more than one tracker and allow me to wear a larger one to work (Like I do a wrist watch) then switch to a smaller one (Charge 3) when I get home or go to the gym and do not want a cumbersome lager tracker on my wrist????? I do not think I have ever heard of something so ridiculous and even though I have been a loyal Fitbit customer (10 years now) this is changing my fitness tracker thinking as I cannot even get excited about new tracker products as I can't think about buying one if it is large (most new ones are) as it will be on my wrist 24/7 (The whole idea of a fitness tracker) Can someone, anyone tell me a good reason why Fitbit does not allow adding two trackers to one account. Of course there HAS to be a way only one can be active at one time so people who get credits at work or for heath insurance are not cheating, this is simple programming. I cannot begin to understand why the leader of the fitness tracking technology is soooo far behind in selling loyal users multiple trackers and why we are forced to wear a large tracker all day and night with no options to switch!!!!!!!!!!
I vote for this capability. I want to use my charge 3 most of the time but the versa to have better swim tracking. Either that or improve the swim tracking capability on the charge 3.
Been using the Ionic for over a year and I'm pretty pleased with it as my everyday watch. I use it to track road biking, mountain biking, hiking, and elliptical at the gym and it does well. It's terrible for tracking heart rate while weight training... and I've read that the Ionic is weak in this area. I've read great reviews about the Charge 3, particularly in heart rate monitoring. I purchased the Charge 3 planning to use it at the gym and switch back to Ionic the rest of the day... but that plan is foiled now. I would LOVE to see this capability added- it just seems to make good marketing sense... I would even spring for the Premium Membership if this feature were included in it... and it would keep me from having to return the Charge 3... I believe I have 45 days to return... clocks ticking, Fitbit!
How many angry or disappointed Fitbit users will it take for them to finally take action?
Look at the age of this thread. Absolutely NOTHING has been done and I seriously doubt anything will at this point.
Moderators; how about having an official address this thread and tell all the disappointed users just why nothing has come of it. We have all spent good money on their devices, myself I own 4 of the high end devices myself, 2 Charge HRs, an Ionic and a Charge 3.
I don't think this is am unreasonable request. Maybe one of you can elevate this.
Unfortunately @Bajs even having the latest update does not allow for the capability of using the devices in unison, I am about to send out my latest tweet asking twitter how far they have got.
@fitbituk@parkjames@fitbitsupport Switched out my Versa for my Inspire HR today (actually got for my birthday in July) Got code pretty quickly, but then it took 15 minutes to connect and load up. I do not have 18 minutes to waste every time. Come FitBit get a move on.
Look at how many people have voiced their disappoint with not being able to have multiple devices on one account. Then look at how long this thread has been going. Nothing is being done by fitbit to address this. The Versa 2 is coming out soon, and there is no way anyone on this thread will be purchasing it until this issue is addressed. Come on Fitbit, we want to stay with you but you're almost pushing away your customers. It such a strange business model (limit your customers to only being able to own one of your devices at a time). What were they thinking?!
Not sure if you all follow, but I saw an article that Fitbit is in talks with financial bank ventures to move into the smartwatch space to try and compete with Apple and Samsung... Really doubt we'll ever see this enhancement.
