Update 7/19/2018: This issue is now resolved, please ensure your app is updated if you still experiencing this issue. We appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation as we worked on a fix. I'll be closing this for further reports. If you are experiencing any new issues with food logging, please start a new thread.
Update 7/18/2018: Thanks again everyone for your reports. Glad to hear the update has corrected food logging issues for many.
If you are still experiencing this issue, we would love to investigate further. The following would help our team review:
We appreciate the additional details.
Fitbit Update 07/16/2018: Hey everyone -- We have just released an update to the Fitbit app for iOS, version 2.53.1 which we believe resolves the issues with food logging that have been reported in this thread. Please update to 2.53.1 and let me know of the results so I can quickly communicate that to our iOS team.
Again, thank you for your continued patience as we worked to get this resolved ASAP.
Update 7/15/2018:
Thanks everyone for your patience on this. We sincerely apologize to anyone who has been affected by this issue and have been working hard to find a fix. We are preparing to roll out an update tomorrow, July 16th to solve the problem. In the meantime, customers can use the food logging feature in the web dashboard: https://www.fitbit.com/foods/log.
Update 7/14/2018: We do realize this is a critical issue and our team continues to work on the cause and a fix. We don't provide timelines, in case something occurs and it can't be met, but we hope to have a resolution soon. Thank you again for your patience, reports, and cooperation.
Update 7/13/2018: Hi Everyone - we definitely do hear your reports and frustration on missing and strange food logs. Our engineers are still investigating and I hope to have a resolution shortly.
While not ideal, you can log on Fitbit.com food log and it will populate on iOS correctly once you sync. You can log it here. We appreciate your cooperation. I'll continue to update this thread as I hear more.
Update 7/12/2018: Hi Everyone - thanks again for your reports. We are actively reviewing this issue and I'll continue to update the thread as I hear further. As a workaround you may want to log your food through https://www.fitbit.com/foods/log. As mentioned in @sreid64's post, it will populate the iOS app correctly. Thanks again for your patience and reports.
Update 7/11/2018: Hi Everyone - I've merged a few posts together. We are currently investigating issues with food logging on iOS version 2.53. Please continue to monitor this thread for updates. If this is severely affecting your food logging, you may want to log through Fitbit.com. Thank you very much for your reports and patience as we review.

Kate
I have done as you have suggested and so yesterday, I logged all my food via the website. it looked fine through the website and showed up on my dashboard. However, today, I have just logged all my food via the website log and I estimated my consumption to be 1800 to 2000 calories, maybe a little less. According to the log, I have consumed over 500 000 calories today. Oops. Are you aware that there are issues with the website too?
In addition, today, the leaderboard is massively out of kilter and my dashboard is showing my floors incorrectly. I have tried to uninstall and re-install, log out several times and report this, but am yet to receive a response or anything helpful from the app.
It it would be really helpful if someone from Fitbit could just give us an update and perhaps some confidence that is not caused by a cyber attack. If I g]have not heard from you by tomorrow, I will be reporting this to the national Cyber Security Council for them to investigate.
I appreciate you you may be working hard to resolve this, but feel that it is time to give users another update. Many thanks in advance

Cici, is it worth just logging it on paper for now? If you are really struggling, you could hold of the MyFitnessPal app and link it to your Fitbit. You can then log your food via my fitness pal to get your daily readout and then go back to your Fitbit dashboard once the problem is resolved. I know it is not ideal, but it might be a workaround to help.....

I want them to own the mistake, apologize, give updates every couple of hours, and let us know if there has been a security breech. Too many people use this. They won't be able to hide long. Giving updates every other day is unacceptable. It should be plastered on their home page, not the community page.

When you enter the food on the website- it doesn’t come over to the app. Is that being fixed too?

I'm not holding my breath for a response.
For anyone not wanting to view it on FB here is what I've posted:
----------------------
FITBIT. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE NUMBERS....
EIGHT days ago I bought a Fitbit Charge 2.
THREE days ago Fitbit pushed out an update for iOS, which broke the app - it is impossible to log food via it. For any Fitbit users not aware you enter one food item, it either deletes it or it changes it to a completely different one with a different calorie count.
On the Fitbit community site, there is a thread which is TWENTY-NINE pages long (and growing). Everyone posting about the problems with the broken app.
The support from Fitbit has been just about ZERO. The only response from Fitbit is "we know, don't use the app, use the website, monitor the (29-page) thread for updates".
Customers are angry I have read literally HUNDREDS of posts from users who are saying this is the final straw and that they are ditching Fitbit. I'm wondering about trying to return mine.
I have just TWO questions for Fitbit and I have a feeling that they will not answer them, or they will talk round them.
1. This is a fundament part of the app, it is not just affecting some users it is affecting EVERYONE who logs food via the iOS app - why was this released without this being tested?
2. For some people calorie counting is a bit of fun - for others, it is a serious health issue. Because of this WHY has the 'upgrade' that caused these issues not been withdrawn from the Apple App store and rolled back to the previous working version?
Fitbit, I look forward to hearing your response... and I bet you don't answer my two questions.
Signed - a disillusioned new user.
----------------------
Shared! I would encourage everyone to do the same...people need to be warned about this before anyone else buys any Fitbit product!

Some food items are saved others are recorded as something else or
completely removed. I have gone to Fitbit.com recorded entry’s then open
the app & synced it will then be entered.

Yes, that also. At first the food item showed for 1/2 second and then disappeared (or was replaced by another) and now it doesn’t even show it at all.
Hmm, apparently it affects several models.
Let’s hope they are working on it.
Oh, hahaha!
Nearly as bad as the person who showed having drunken 41,000 calories of coffee! 😂
Haha! Mine is Blueberry Crumbles! Sounds delicious but not sure what it is. Always Blueberry Crumbles....😄
Oh, that is great news!! Thank you for sharing!!
That would frustrate me also more than the food does!
Yep, exactly! After the „cleaning up” it went haywire!

Relieved to hear I’m not the only one having trouble with calorie input. It started on 11th July. Tried switching off/ logging out but nothing works. Really miss this aid. Please get it up and running ASAP. Thanks

For some of us it’s not just the app dashboard not correct either. I’m at almost 4 years fitbit loyal might be time to move on.
2 days is too long to deal with this when we rely on this. And it wasn’t a cheap purchase. I’m on my 4th

I have been having the same problem logging food with my phone (iOS 2.53), so I started using Fitbit.com. I noticed that when I add a custom food, it will tell me that it has been created and added to my food list, but then does not show up anywhere on my food list, and if I search for it, it doesn't come up. Is this another issue, or am I doing something wrong?

To be fair I’ve used it religiously for 2 years and never had a problem. But it’s so frustrating and you are right. They aren’t cheap. It might sound ridiculous but I do rely on it to monitor food intake and weight.

Haha perhaps we should try these weird things?
Oh my goodness! This is getting to be quite funny (but still frustrating). My activities is also caput. Went for a 40 minute walk and it logged 21 minutes!
Let’s hope so. I thought it would have been sorted by now
