Versa Smartwatches - Fitbit OS 4.2 Firmware Update (71.6.19)

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Update 9/3/2020: This update should now be available to all customers. If you have any difficulty updating, make sure you are following the directions in this article, and then provide as many specific details as possible in your post so that we can assist.

We've started rolling out Fitbit OS 4.2 Firmware Update (71.6.19) for the Versa series.

We release firmware updates to all customers in phases. The update will be available to everyone soon, and a banner will appear in the app when you can install the update. If you don’t see the banner yet, check the app again later.

*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.

Release notes can be found here.

HOW DO I UPDATE?

Step by step instructions for updating your Versa device can be found here.

We recommend updating your Versa over a home Wi-Fi network as this can greatly reduce the time it can take to get set up. For more information on connecting your Versa to Wi-Fi, check out this article

I am so disappointed in what is happening here. I tried to reply to a comment and it had been deleted and the person is saying they are going to be banned. Seriously? I have had a Fitbit since 2012/2013. I have personally gotten my family members and friends to get a Fitbit over other products but that definitely stops now. All of the replies from Fitbit are so condescending and NONE of them address any of our issues and say the same thing over and over. Since the update, my versa 2 will not consistently track my heart rate anymore and when it does it does not seem accurate at all, I completely lost any period tracking data which I really used, and don't even get me started on the Zone minutes. I would hope they are focused on their customers and would give the option to opt out of the upgrade but from the replies I'm seeing from them and how they are deleting any negative posts I highly doubt it.

I feel the same way as you. I’ve owned 3 different Fitbit trackers and I’m extremely disappointed in their lack of response. One of posts was deleted and I was told because it contained “inflammatory and grievances about moderator actions”. All I did was ask when this was going to be fixed and why it isn’t being addressed. They obviously are aware of all the problems and complaints if they are going through and deleting comments. It appears to me there is little to no focus on customers at this point and time. Time for me to to move on and buy a working device that does not carry the brand name Fitbit.

Maybe try a factory reset and then pair it again maybe --

I was having a lot of problems the first couple days after I did the update - here's what fixed mine - no guarantee that it will work for anyone else but i hope it does.  First of all make sure you are using the most up to date app  on your phone - version 3.29 - mine needed to be updated.  Second Check the permissions on your phone under the app.  The following permissions need to be on:  Calendar, camera, contacts, location, Microphone, phone. SMS And Storage.   Third shut down the versa - go to settings and scroll down to about - scroll down and select turn off.  Wait about five minutes and then turn back on by pushing all three buttons of the watch at the same time.  Also turn your phone off and back on.

What the heck is up with this update?

My Fitbit Versa is suddenly not lasting 10 hours after this update. I have had it since 2018. I expect it to still be working given its cost.

I had no problems with battery life until now.

I did the update last night and now my screen won't "wake up" when I bring my wrist up, like to check the time.  I've restarted it many times but still can't see my "home screen" with the clock, steps, etc. Please help.

@Paul0324 -

Double-tap the device to wake it up.

Swipe left until you see the "Settings" icon and tap on it.

Scroll down to screen wake - if it doesn't say, in blue letters "Auto (Motion)" tap on it until it does.

Press your back button until you get to the watch face - when it darkens test the Screen Wake.

If that doesn't work (and I gave those instructions first to show you there is a Setting app on the device), go to your device's settings in your mobile app and enable "Quick View").

Good luck and welcome to the boards.

I just got my Versa Lite set up yesterday but have not been able to do any updates on it - I can't download any apps because it says my fitbit isn't on the latest update, but no matter where I search I can't figure out how to update it. The feature to turn on all day sync is gone, so I'm not sure if this is part of the problem. Anyone have any tips? My Versa Lite is on version 38.33.1.30 right now. Thanks in advance!

Since the update my versa 2 won't track my heart rate and keeps going to the blue fitbit logo. It vibrates constantly as it finds then loses my heart rate. I did a factory reset but it's still happening.

Updated and for the last couple of nights I don't get an Estimated Oxygen Variation, just a blank chart with sleep start and finish time.

Ever since the update my heart rate tracker says my heart rate is 160 or above. And it isn’t tracking my sleep correctly. Can I go back to before the update?

Hi everyone!

I would like to thank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding your experiences with your Versa smartwatches. I wanted to let you know that your voices have been heard and your feedback has been forwarded to our team.

We've noticed that some of you have different issues with your Versa smartwatches after the update so if you're still running into any issue with your watch, you can try the suggested steps listed below before checking with our team:

  • HOW DO I UPDATE?
  • Find step-by-step instructions for updating your Versa smartwatch here
  • If you run into any trouble updating your Versa, review these troubleshooting tips
  • If you're having syncing issues with your Fitbit. Please try these steps: Why won't my Fitbit device sync? If the steps don't work, you can attempt the factory reset on your Fitbit. Remember to remove your watch first from the Fitbit app and from the Bluetooth settings on your phone.
  • If you've noticed issues with the battery of your Fitbit, please try these steps before checking with our support team: Why isn't my Fitbit device's battery charging? or Can I extend my Fitbit device's battery life?
  • If you have issues with your AZM, see this post.
  • If the screen of your watch isn't responding to swipes or it's not turning on, but it seems to be still syncing:
 -  Switch to a Fitbit clock face if you're using a third party clock face: How do I change the clock face on my Fitbit device?
-  Please confirm if you've restarted your device by following the steps from this help article: How do I restart my Fitbit device?

For the ones who are still working with our Support Team I'd suggest to keep your conversation with them since they will tell you what's the next step to take and what your options are.

Well Hallelujah!!This morning my Versa connected to the GPS and it actually tracked my route (that I always walk) at 3.5 miles (not the 2.8 miles without being able to connect the GPS). My pace was about normal (ave pace of 13.18 vs the bogus avg pace 17.05 without GPS). I still do not care for the zone minutes and wish we could get active minutes back. Much better tracking for me. Fitbit should give us an option to choose, in my humble opinion. Hopefully the GPS will continue to connect. As a long time Fitbit user( close to 10 years)  I like the platform and the devices as well as the ability to look back at my history. These updates are frustrating especially with algorithms that change stats based on your age and other Items. I just want to track my steps, my distance, how long did it take me, and my average pace per mile so I can compare my days. Please stop trying to calculate the info because we don’t need it. I don’t need you to calculate my zone minutes and double my minutes based on what zone I am in. Just give me active minutes. For me that works better! Thank you!

I let mine run out of battery and left it on the charger all night and woke up
To the correct time! No more 25
Minutes behind! Hopefully everything else is working! Maybe this will help someone else!

I tried that and now my fitbit is showing: To start download the fitbit app.

And my fitbit app can't find my fitbit. 😞

I highly recommend calling in.  If your device is still under warranty they will replace it.  Mine could also not be found by either of my phones once I removed it and tried to reload it.  My replacement is now on it's way from FitBit. 1-877-623-4997
