I have deleted my device from the app and set up a new device still no luck

The entire process took around 40 minutes.  We tried doing the update on 4 different android phones and on an android tablet several times... No success whatsoever on any of them.  We always ended up with the red X or it would go into a boot loop.  I think the key to getting it to work is doing it on the computer.  At least for this update.  No telling what will happen on the next one they push through.  😞

I did it in windows 10... Here is the process I did for the FitBit Versa Lite...

1.  I deleted from my phone (Not for sure if this step is really necessary or not)
     a.  I clicked on my icon on the top left corner of the app

     b.  I then clicked on my device towards the top of the page

     c.  Next clicked on the trash can on the top right corner of the app to remove the device

2.  Went to windows Microsoft store and downloaded the FitBit app

3.  After installing the app on Windows 10 computer, I put the FitBit into the charging dock and plugged the USB of the charging dock into the computer

4.  I waited until Windows 10 said the device was installed

5.  I then went into the FitBit app and went through the process of installing the app.  It asks to pair the device by typing in the four digit number and then asks to do the dreaded update

6.  Wait until you have a working FitBit again. (hopefully)

It took about 40 minutes, it was nice on windows because it told you how much time was left on the update.  We did not have this luxury on android.

Hope this helps someone else fix their FitBit as they are neat little devices to have.  We had just received this device on Christmas and have been fighting with it for 2 weeks prior to finally getting it working again.  There really seems to be an issue with the firmware the FitBit company has put on the device and they really need to address it.  People are spending good money for a device that should work longer than 2 weeks.

Thank you so much for this information I unfortunately do not have Windows
10 and I really and I'm tired of out of my way for my Fitbit I have lost so
much faith in confidence in Fitbit all I want is my money back and I'm
going to try to get it on Monday if I had a Windows 10 on my computer I
would be happy to do it but since I was never aware that I had to have
Windows 10 when I purchased my Fitbit I believe I'm entitled to a refund
this is the best response that I've gotten for my post and I really do
appreciate it thank you for all your help

Don't know why you think you need Windows 10 ??. I fixed mine on my Samsung galaxy a8. And done it on WiFi from my Apple computer. John.

So I had to disconnect my versa in the fitbit app and re add it as a device

I think that there's no need to install the app on the PC (I did it on a MAC). Somehow, connecting the watch to an USB port unblocked something (when a device is connected to an USB the software/firmware tries to identify it and does a "handshake"). Anyway, connecting the watch to the USB and perform the update also worked to me.

Have you tried attaching your watch through USB port on a computer, and
updating. Others seemed to have had
Luck with it. Read all posts on Fitbit Community as others have posted ways
that have worked. Good Luck.

I did this, connected the Versa lite that was stuck on the red X directly to the computer with the cradle and it worked.  I have a working updated fit bit again.

I just had the exact same problem.  I tried resetting for the past 3 days. I just couldn't get past the update firmware screen.  It always failed. So I finally called customer service.  He had me plug my charger into my computer usb port.. Then turned my blue tooth off and back on. Then clicked the update firmware again. This time it worked and within 10 minutes it had updated and I could use my Fitbit Versa Lite again. So thankful for the fix. I hope it helps someone else.

I have done this 2x yesterday. I woke up this morning and now have to do it again. At the moment it is updating. But I have had two try 5 times to get it to connecting and have the Fitbit connect to the internet I am not sure if it is connected now or just automatically updating. The only way this is working is when my Fitbit is plugged into my computer and my phone into a charger.

Yes, but I was able to get mine eventually done through Wi-Fi but others
had trouble getting it done through Wi-Fi so it seems that you have to try
all options.
Sounds like a good plan to me to try to log into the computer connect the
watch in its cradle and plug it in through the USB port and try it out, not
sure if you need to download the Fitbit app on your computer or not. Just
try anything.

@mrstompettyDid you get yours to work?  Did you try just plugging it into a USB port and doing the update via USB?  Maybe it will work even without Windows 10.
