Stopped seeing notifications after updating to iOS 13

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Update 12/13/2019: Please ensure you are on the latest iOS version, currently 13.3. Also check out the updated instructions in our notification help article

This thread is a continuation of our previous discussion on notification issues introduced with iOS 13. If you are experiencing difficulty with your notifications after updating to iOS 13, please carefully follow the steps in this article, which are also documented below.

These steps should resolve the issue when followed correctly. We realize this process can take some time, and encourage you to proceed carefully and deliberately through every step, even if you think you've already done so.

If these steps do not appear to resolve the issue for you, please try them at least once more to be certain, then respond in this thread with specific details about where you were unable to proceed, or what unexpected behavior you are still experiencing.

1. GET UP-TO-DATE

  1. Update the Fitbit app.
  2. Make sure you installed the latest version of iOS. Tap Settings > General > Software update to see if an update is available.

2. CHECK YOUR BLUETOOTH SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device.
  3. Turn Share System Notifications off and then back on. If you don't see the Share System Notifications option:
    1. Restart your Fitbit device. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?
    2. Tap Allow when you receive a message on your iPhone or iPad asking if you want your Fitbit device to show notifications.
    3. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device
    4. Turn on Share System Notifications.

3. CHECK YOUR NOTIFICATION SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings in the top-left to return to the Settings page > Notifications.
  2.  Make sure Show Previews is set to Always or When Unlocked.
  3. Verify the settings for each app that sends notifications:
App Settings
Calendar
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Tap each notification type and verify the settings:
    • Alerts > Notification Center—On
    • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Messages
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Phone
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
All other apps
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked

4. RESTART YOUR PHONE

For instructions, see the Apple help article.

5. DOUBLE-CHECK

If these steps do not resolve the issue for you, please keep your app up to date, and double-check the following:

  • DO NOT DISTURB

This feature prevents your phone from sending notifications. Verify that Do Not Disturb is off:

  1. On your phone, tap Settings > Do Not Disturb.
  2. Make sure Do Not Disturb is turned off.
  • SET UP NOTIFICATIONS IN THE FITBIT APP
  1. With your Fitbit device nearby, tap the Today tab

     > your profile picture.
  2. Tap your device image > Notifications. Follow the on-screen instructions to pair your Fitbit device to your phone.
  3. Choose the types of notifications you want to receive. Tap App Notifications and choose the apps you want notifications from.
  4. Sync your device.

Again, if these steps do not work for you, please try them more than once and then let us know specific details about your experience so that we can assist further. Please keep your app up to data and watch this thread for new information.

I go through the steps and the notifications seem to work for about 6-12 hours, then I have to redo the steps to get the notifications again.  I finally got the sleep data (not detailed), first time since 12/12 (a Christmas Miracle perhaps).  We will see if the sleep data keeps working.

I was so excited to receive my versa lite as a gift on Christmas Day. But what a disappointment! The notifications aren’t working at all! I’ve repeated these steps several times since setting up the device yesterday with no luck. Really Fitbit?? Plus the device is count steps all wrong! This is pathetically ridiculous and so frustrating!

I have a Fitbit Versa and an iPhone 6. None of the suggested steps work. This stopped working after the new IOS and/or Fitbit App release/update.

I stopped receiving text messages to my versa lite yesterday after my iPhone updated to 13.3. I too was only receiving calls, emails, etc. I went through all the instructions and nothing worked.

Well low and behold I FINALLY got the text notifications to work again this morning! I went through all the steps again and realized that you can’t just have general notifications set to always. You have to go under notifications>messages and make sure the previews are set to always or when unlocked. Sort of a duh moment but I didn’t realize this was changed after the update. It was the one place I missed.

Your post worked from me. Thanks

i just don’t like having the preview of my text messages.

So did I. I just got tired of waiting for Fitbit to fix things.

With this "patch" solve - does this mean in order to receive notifications that I am always going to have to have my messages on "always show preview"?

My Charge 2 didn't have that requirement and now that I have upgraded to the Versa 2 it seems that I do.

Waiting on a fix for iOS 13. Cannot review text messages. Calls and calendar only.

That did work either.

Fitbit told me to update my phone to the current version of iOS to fix the notifications problem. However, I did, and it still didn't work. Very frustrated.

My versa still will not receive my text messages but all other notifications work.

I don’t either. Not ideal but at least it worked. Glad I could help!

I think that’s the only way for you to receive your text notifications! It’s not ideal. I set my preview to when my phone is unlocked. Maybe you can turn off how the preview is displayed (banner, lock screen) to avoid having your texts be on display?

Is fitbit trying to resolve the issue of now having to have the message preview set to always or will this be the way it has to be going forward?

I really hope they are fixing it. I don’t want to have to set my messages on always show to get notifications.

I have no clue. I reviewed so many forums about this and have seen no updates. I hope they fix it soon. I hate having previews show up on my phone too!

I hope I can help everyone as my nephew was determined to fix this issue for me and my sister.  He is a pure genius.  We stopped getting notifications over a month ago and we both decided to get a new fit bit in hopes of our text messages working. Unfortunately after setting up our new fit bits it still did not work.  My nephew was persistent and figured it out. Go into settings.  Go into notifications. Scroll down to messages.  Then scroll down to show previews and check always.  Please let me know if this works for all of you as it finally worked for me and my sister.
