Update 12/13/2019: Please ensure you are on the latest iOS version, currently 13.3. Also check out the updated instructions in our notification help article.
This thread is a continuation of our previous discussion on notification issues introduced with iOS 13. If you are experiencing difficulty with your notifications after updating to iOS 13, please carefully follow the steps in this article, which are also documented below.
These steps should resolve the issue when followed correctly. We realize this process can take some time, and encourage you to proceed carefully and deliberately through every step, even if you think you've already done so.
If these steps do not appear to resolve the issue for you, please try them at least once more to be certain, then respond in this thread with specific details about where you were unable to proceed, or what unexpected behavior you are still experiencing.
1. GET UP-TO-DATE
- Update the Fitbit app.
- Make sure you installed the latest version of iOS. Tap Settings > General > Software update to see if an update is available.
2. CHECK YOUR BLUETOOTH SETTINGS
- Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
- Tap the information icon
- Turn Share System Notifications off and then back on. If you don't see the Share System Notifications option:
- Restart your Fitbit device. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?
- Tap Allow when you receive a message on your iPhone or iPad asking if you want your Fitbit device to show notifications.
- Tap the information icon
- Turn on Share System Notifications.
3. CHECK YOUR NOTIFICATION SETTINGS
- Tap Settings in the top-left to return to the Settings page > Notifications.
- Make sure Show Previews is set to Always or When Unlocked.
- Verify the settings for each app that sends notifications:
App | Settings |
---|---|
Calendar |
|
Messages |
|
Phone |
|
All other apps |
|
4. RESTART YOUR PHONE
For instructions, see the Apple help article.
5. DOUBLE-CHECK
If these steps do not resolve the issue for you, please keep your app up to date, and double-check the following:
- DO NOT DISTURB
This feature prevents your phone from sending notifications. Verify that Do Not Disturb is off:
- On your phone, tap Settings > Do Not Disturb.
- Make sure Do Not Disturb is turned off.
- SET UP NOTIFICATIONS IN THE FITBIT APP
- With your Fitbit device nearby, tap the Today tab
- Tap your device image > Notifications. Follow the on-screen instructions to pair your Fitbit device to your phone.
- Choose the types of notifications you want to receive. Tap App Notifications and choose the apps you want notifications from.
- Sync your device.
Again, if these steps do not work for you, please try them more than once and then let us know specific details about your experience so that we can assist further. Please keep your app up to data and watch this thread for new information.

I have tried all the methods as recommend. My Fitbit 2 only gets phone calls and not text messages. This is very frustrating.

This has been going on since October for me. The only way I get notifications is if I allow read previews on my phone, which is a privacy issue where I work and the reason I got my Fitbit versa. I’ve contacted Fitbit three times with no timeline of an actual fix and they won’t allow a refund either. I’m not here to tell others what to do, just to share my frustrations as three months with no true timeline or fix has made me wary to make any Fitbit purchases in the future.

I’ve followed these steps multiple times. Still can’t get text messages. I do get call notifications and calendar alerts, but I want my text alerts back! I’ve only had my Charge 3 since December 2019 and everything was great until IOS 13 broke it! Very aggravating!

Someone on the forum said they went to apple tech and they went into settings, general, reset, reset all settings. So I did this and it worked.

Suddenly getting “device not found” this morning. Updated iOS on Friday. Actually did factory reset because iOS update screwed my phone. Everything’s up to date. Got it to connect once and then lost it again. This is not okay.

I”m getting all my notifications except for text messages. I have tried all the above steps twice and still not working. Is this because a new device is out and you are wanting customers to upgrade?? Please fix.!

I just purchased a brand new Fitbit Charge 3 because I thought there was something wrong with my Charge 2. I have not been able to receive any notifications and I had followed ALL of the suggested steps multiple times. Imagine how frustrated and disappointed I am right now, having spent another $100 for a new device just to have the exact same issue! I need the notifications to work!!! What is Fitbit doing to remedy this situation? Perhaps I should have simply bought an Apple Watch but have been a customer of Fitbit since 2011 so I wanted to give it one more try. Not a happy customer right now!

My Fitbit is brand new, and even though I knew it would be futile as I’d already done them, I followed the instructions in this thread another 2 times. As predicted they didn’t work. I can receive calls fine just not texts. Is Fitbit coming up with any other solutions?

I followed the steps in this post only once and my Fitbit is working as it should. I have noticed that most people who had a Fitbit before the software update on iOS it was working (this means it was the apple or android software update that caused the issue).
If it doesn't work on your phone try to see if it can link to a friends or spouses phone (make sure you trust them 😉 of course ). If the Fitbit works with the other phone it is something on your phone causing the issue (maybe a new security feature).
Please backup your phone before doing an update in case things go wrong during updates
I know it can be tough troubleshooting electronic devices. I have done it before.
Hope you can get all your devices working soon.
