Hey you @Hearts08, thanks for stopping by! Sorry my friend, I'm a bit confused about your post... do you need help to set up your notifications?

No worries @Dearnne, I'll be more than glad to help you. Smiley Very Happy Since you'll need to make a choice about encryption, before you get started we recommend reading our brief explanation at Are notifications sent from my Android device encrypted?

On your mobile device go to your system settings and verify these conditions:

  • The Android version is 4.3 or higher. This can usually be found under About Phone or About Device.
  • Bluetooth is turned on. Bluetooth is what allows your mobile device to communicate with Fitbit, so it must be on for a notification to transmit.
  • Do Not Disturb is turned off. This setting can usually be found under Sound and Notification.
  • A default SMS and calendar app ae selected. If your Android version is 5.0+ make sure a default is shown. This setting can usually be found under More.

Now you'll make sure the Fitbit app can send the notifications you want to see. Make sure your charged tracker is nearby.

  1. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap the Account icon.
  2. Tap your tracker's name.
  3. Tap Notifications.
  4. Check the box for Fitbit Notification Service and tap OK.
  5. Confirm which apps should send notifications to your tracker. For example if you'd rather see text messages from What's App than Messenger, change the Text messaging (SMS) app setting. (You can only choose one app per category.) This list shows the most common defaults, but you'll only see the notification types offered for your tracker:
    • Phone app—Dialer
    • Text messaging (SMS) app—Messenger
    • Calendar app—Calendar
    • Email—Email
  6. If you want to require that only encrypted notifications can pass from your phone to tracker:
    1. Go back to the Notifications screen and tap Require encryption.
    2. Close and reopen the Fitbit app to start the bonding process required for sending encrypted data.
    3. If the bonding process fails, tap Re-enable and try again. Most devices bond immediately or after a few tries, but some cannot.
  7. Go back to the tracker settings screen and sync your tracker.

The Charge 2 notification setting on the tracker that must be on. Therefore, on the clock screen, press and hold the button.

You're all set. You'll get tracker notifications whenever you're in range of your mobile device (about 20 feet). Smiley Very Happy

How do I check if preview is on?

Best Answer

Hey you, I'm glad to see you here @teacheramiSmiley Very Happy

  1. If you have a Blaze, hold the top right button for a couple seconds to make sure Notifications is set to On.
  2. Confirm your mobile device is compatible with notifications by visiting here. Notifications are available for Android devices running OS 4.3 or later.
  3. Make sure Bluetooth is enabled by going to Settings > Bluetooth.
  4. If your mobile device has OS 5.0 or later, you may need to configure the default text messaging and calendar apps by tapping Settings > More > Default SMS appor Settings > More > Default calendar app.
  5. If you have a Blaze and want third-party apps such as Facebook and Twitter to send notifications to your tracker, turn on notifications for each app. The location of this setting varies across mobile devices and operating systems, but is usually under Settings > Apps.
  6. Go to Settings > Do Not Disturb and make sure the setting is off. The location of this setting varies across mobile devices and operating systems but is usually under Sound and Notification.
  7. Put your tracker within 20 feet (6 meters) of your mobile device for the rest of the setup process. Note that you'll only receive notifications on your tracker when your mobile device is within this radius.
  8. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap your tracker tile.
  9. Tap Notifications.
  10. Check the box next to Fitbit Notification Service and then tap OK.
  11. Depending on your tracker, choose your preferred call, text, and calendar apps. The apps provided by your phone for calls, texts, and calendar notifications vary between mobile devices; however, some common default apps are:
    • Phone app—Dialer
    • Text messaging (SMS) app—Messenger
    • Calendar app—Calendar. Keep in mind your tracker will show calendar events sent from your calendar app to your mobile device. If your calendar app doesn't send notifications to your mobile device, you won't receive notifications on your tracker.
  12. For Blaze, turn on email and third-party app notifications:
    1. Under Email, choose your preferred email app. A common default app is Email.
    2. Under App Notifications, turn on notifications for all apps you want to send notifications to your tracker such as Facebook.
  13. To complete the set up, tap the arrow in the top left to return to your tracker tile and tap Sync Now.
  14. If you want to ensure that all notifications sent to your tracker are encrypted, on the Notifications page tap Require encryption. For more information, see Are notifications sent from my Android device encrypted?
    1. Open the Fitbit app again to start the bonding process that allows your mobile device to send encrypted data to your tracker.
    2. If the bonding process is not successful, tap Re-enable and follow the onscreen instructions to attempt the bonding process again.
    3. If you cannot successfully complete the bonding process, you can choose to continue with unencrypted communications.
  15. To verify that set up was successful, look at the list of Bluetooth-connected devices on your mobile device. Your tracker's name should appear.

Hope this helps my friend!

Hello there @Xoxocierra16! How you doing? Smiley Very Happy First of all, please check if your Fitbit app is already updated to the last version. If it needs to be updated, do it and then just do a log out and a log back in.

Once that has been done, follow the steps that my friend @annie-nz posted here to get your messages and the name of the sender.

Hope it gets your issue solved!

I have a Fitbit charge 2 and I have an iPhone 6s and I can see who text me and what they said but I can't respond. How do I respond?

@Juliaduncan normally i pull my phone out of my pocket then type my response on it. Or through the heasphone i use OK Google and my voice to send a text response..

There is no way to respond through your tracker. This would not be easy with only two inpit keys. Button and tap.

where is the message preview option?

Make sure your Notifications for Messaging on your phone is set for preview in pop ups.  If it is set to sender only then it won't show on your fitbit even if you have it set to preview through fitbit.  This was my problem 🙂

If android....

Settings --> Device --> Applications --> Messages --> Notifications --> Must be on, pop-up display switched on, and Preview Message on.  If the preview message is off then it won't preview through fitbit either, no matter what you set it to through the app.

Hope this helps 🙂

@phillyraized the message preview option, if there is one, will be a setting in your texting app. Not all apps have this.

Thanks for joining us here @Faithlynn @4sweetcatsSmiley Very Happy To get your notifications I'd recommend following the steps I've posted here. Let me know if this does the trick guys!

It's nice to see you around @HatTrickHalling! Not at this time, there's no way to respond to text messages directly from your tracker.

I'd recommend checking out our Feature Suggestion Board if you haven't already. This is a space where Community users can post features, ideas, and suggestions that they'd like to see in future Fitbit products, accessories, and software and top-voted suggestions get relayed to our product team for review.

I'd also recommend up-voting and commenting on Ability to respond to text messages feature suggestion since it is very similar of what you're looking and asking for.

Enjoy the rest of your day!
